Hey everyone,

At uni this semester I'm doing a research paper on the video essay medium and the ways it can benefit professional film/tv criticism. As part of it I'm conducting a survey among fans of film and tv on their preferences when it comes to consuming criticism.

It's 10 questions, multiple choice, and completely anonymous. Shouldn't take more than 3 minutes. Please consider helping me out by participating, and feel free to message me if you have any questions! 🙏🏿🧑🏿‍🎓📝🤗

I doubt anyone seeing my posts is southern brazilian but it's worth a shot:

1) Stay inside. Even if your city is okay, there's more rain coming, and you could end up stuck somewhere with nowhere else to go. Only leave for necessary things or if you need to evacuate.

2) If you need to evacuate and have pets, get dogs and cats on a leash or a travel box. You can also carry cats on large boxes or pillow cases to be safe. Small pets, try to carry with you, preferably in a proper box so you don't risk them escaping somehow. If you have farm animals, don't lock them in anywhere, open all doors and let them loose, they have a better chance of surviving this way.

3) Again, if you need to evacuate, worry only about getting your documents and medicine. If your area might be asked to evacuate next, already get those things in a bag close to your door for if you need to leave in a hurry. But only worry about the essentials.

4) Get a radio. Yes, the small ones that are battery powered. Yes, those. No matter where you are, there are huge risks of power blackouts and you might not have access to the TV or your phone. The radio is how you'll have access to the news if shit happens.

And most importantly: stay safe and keep watching the news!

Ahmed, you said no one can get out of Gaza right now. Not even if Egypt allows it? Does it mean we can't donate to escape fundraises anymore?

Keep donating guys because the news says they will withdraw from the border

Right now Israeli tanks control the border from Palestine side

last chance to evacuate

as you may know, israel has begun its ground operation in rafah. they dropped leaflets last night ordering people to evacuate, and bombing in east rafah has already begun.

The border is about to become unreachable.

We have literal hours until no-one, all the GoFundMe's you've scrolled past, all the people desperately begging on TikTok, will be able to escape.

Give now. Give whatever you can.

I am fundraising for the Odeh family, which is only 3k away from meeting its goal.

you will not get another chance.

To my followers, this is another trustworthy GoFundMe that needs your help. Ruba and her family are stuck in Rafah and are trying to raise the funds to leave.

Ruba and her family have lost everything they own. They are still facing constant bombing from Israel and the threat of illnesses and food shortage. Her father's health is dire right now, while there is no medical infrastructure left in Gaza to help him and a lack of supplies.

They've only reached €856 of their goal of €50,000

The situation is urgent and I'm making a post in the hopes of getting Ruba's story out more exposure. Please donate and share! Anything you can spare will help this family.

You can also reach Ruba here on tumblr @rubaabushaban

no i think you should feel guilty for purposefully neglecting to talk about palestine. how are you going to sit comfortably in your room, with food in your belly, a glass of water next to you all with the safety of knowing you can sleep soundly tonight and still tell me you need tumblr for escapism?

people act like they're being asked to write a dissertation and present a fucking research paper in every post when all that's being asked of them to do online is keep awareness going, donate to gfms or at least share ones that have been vetted so families can flee instead of being slaughtered by the idf as they celebrate and dance on the mass graves of children. i don't care who you are, you should be shamed and personally feel guilty every time you skip a donation fund post, a plea from those on the ground or any news coverage related to protests and pro palestine action. since the very fucking beginning all that's been asked of you is the bare minimum and you can't even do that?

analyse why you see being visibly and actively against zionism and genocide as an inconvenience to yourself. if you can shut off your phone and look outside and still see buildings standing and families walking in the street laughing i don't want to hear about needing escapism, you're not escaping a damn thing.

Rapper Macklemore posts on Instagram a song in support of Palestine called “HIND’S HALL” that will be on streaming platforms soon and all proceeds will go to UNRWA

lyrics to Hind’s Hall

(FREE PALESTINE painted in red on the steps of a building is focused on the camera - the first words of the song that aren’t said but shown.)

The people they won’t leave

what is threatening about divesting and wanting peace?

the problem isn’t the protests, it’s what they’re protesting

cause it goes against what our country is funding.

block the barricade until Palestine is free.

block the barricade until Palestine is free.

when I was 7 I learned a lesson from Cube and Easy E,

what was it again? oh yea. fuck the police.

actors in badges protecting property

and a system that was designed by white supremacy

but the people are in the streets, you can pay off meta, you can’t pay off me

politicians, who serve by any means, AIPAC, CUFI, and all the companies

you can take a selfie here in the land of the free, but this generation here is about to cut the strings.

you can ban tik-tok, take us out the algorithm

but it’s too late, we’ve seen the truth, we bear witness

we’ve seen the rubble of buildings, the mothers and the children, and all the men that you murdered and then we see how you spin it

who gets the right to defend and who gets the right of resistance has always been about dollars and the color of your pigment

but

white supremacy is finally on blast, screaming FREE PALESTINE to their home at last

we see the lies in them, claiming it’s anti-semitic to be anti-zionist

I see Jewish brothers and sisters out there and riding in solidarity and screaming FREE PALESTINE with em

organizing, unlearning, and finally cutting ties with a state that’s gotta rely on an apartheid system to uphold an occupying violent

history that’s been repeating for last 75 years

the nakba never ended, the colonizer lied

if students in tents, posted on the lawn, occupying the quad, is really against the law

and a reason to call in the police and their squad

where does genocide land in your definition, huh?

destroying every college in Gaza and every mosque,

pushing everyone into Rafah and dropping bombs,

the blood is on your hands biden we can see it all

and fuck no, I’m not voting for you in the fall.

undecided, you can’t twist the truth,

the people out here united

never be defeated when freedom’s on the horizon.

yet the music industry’s quiet, complicit in their platform of silence

what happened to the artist? what do you got to say?

if I was on a label, you could drop me today

and be fine with it, cause the heart fed my page,

I want a ceasefire.

fuck a response from drake.

what you willing to risk? what you willing to give?

what if you were in Gaza? what if those were your kids?

if the west was pretending that you didn’t exist,

you’d want the world to stand up

and the students finally did-let’s GO

(unsaid/on screen)

ceasefire now.

free palestine.

*note, I chose to capitalize free palestine, not from his tone of voice, which raps the same throughout with a steady passionate beat, but from the passion of the protesters screaming it.

how to help the people of sudan

how to help the people of congo

I'm in awe of how we ran historical revisionism on the civil rights movement so bad that people truly believe it was quiet self-sacrifcial non-disruptive christ-like activism that forced progress and not — like — the incredible economic pressure of boycotts and outbreaks of illegal civil disobedience

Yapping to the choir but eughhh it burns me up girl effective protests have to be loud and inconvenient for change to happen because silent cries die in the dark that's the entire pointtt

Also, a lot of the so called harmless examples used for peaceful protests were specifically supposed to be disruptive as all hell. Like, take sit-ins, for example. What you were probably told is that black people just refused to leave white only establishments to make a point.

But how they actually worked was manipulating racist policies to cause as much of a delay as possible. They'd sit down at the bar to order (that's how those restaurants worked, you had to sit down to order and there weren't many tables) and when the waiter said they couldn't serve them, they'd respond that they would wait until they could be served. And then all their friends who they organized this with would do the same, and they would sit there at every seat until they're holding up the whole line. Then nobody could order and the restaurant was forced to either close, serve them, or try and fail to work around them. It wasn't just to make a point, it was to cost them money and time.

Even what was framed as "quiet peaceful protest" was actually very disruptive both socially and economically.

Does this look quiet, peaceful, nondisruptive?

And the struggle didn't stop after formal integration, once the Civil Rights act had passed. Because even when they are legally required to serve you, they can make you really fucking uncomfortable and threaten you and the cops probably will take their side.

For one example, there was a cafe that would serve Black people, but would then publicly break the dishes so that no white customer would ever have to eat off a dish a Black person had eaten off of. This was done publicly, right as the Black diner was done eating. The waitress takes the plate and smashes it. This is a signal both to the white diners "see, we hate them just as much as you do, you're safe here" and also a threat of violence to the Black diners. "If you're not careful we'll smash you just like we did this plate."

But at the same time, if Black people go there and eat every day ... how long before the cafe can't afford to do that? How long before they have broken so many dishes that it's eating into their profits? How long before the white diners start getting used to eating alongside Black people and simply don't care as much any longer, or start getting annoyed at the noise and fuss and mess?

Black people eating in white establishments was loud, inconvenient, and disruptive. Because that's the nature of challenging the status quo.
