works w/ youtube, soundcloud, twitch, twitter (gifs and videos), tumblr (video and audio), and most other websites you're probably lookin to download stuff off of.

for anyone wondering about privacy and whatnot, i'm happy to say that the developers are pretty committed to have 0 trackers and 0 data retention. you can read more in their "about" section, but here's the basic important stuff:

I really don't get the "lol Ed is the only one who would think being Stede's boyfriend is a bragging point" take when like...literally in the previous episode the entire Republic of Pirates was all over Stede? People were getting tattoos of his face and buying him drinks and hanging on his every word? It was a major plot point? Lots of people have stated in-universe that they think Stede is cool

THANK YOU! Also Hellkat was fucking charmed by Stede, as was Anne Bonny, and a number of Ned Low's crew, and they were definitely spreading the info that Stede Bonnet was a good dude.

Given that Ed was fascinated by Stede before he even met him, somehow I also think that a guy who first showed up at the Republic of Pirates in an incandescent white suit, selling a British naval officer as a hostage, and then proceeded to 1) insult Izzy Hands, 2) tell Blackbeard to go suck eggs in hell, and 3) break Spanish Jackie's nose jar and SURVIVE...might have gained a reputation.

I dunno. Some of the point of Stede is that he's completely unexpected and keeps succeeding. And yes, Ed is wildly in love with him, but there's a reason Ed is so in love with him. Ed is satisfied the morning after they sleep together because he's in love and he's got the man he wants, but he's also...satisfied. I'm not sure what the point is in denying that.

Seriously.

There are takes that I find mildly amusing when I think of them as hyperbole, but find baffling / off-putting when I realize that, no, a nontrivial number of people mean them in utter earnest.

I think many people are tempted to see Stede as less capable and charismatic across domains than he actually is because of aesthetics: especially in season 1, he looks conspicuously other. He's dressed to the nines on a working pirate ship. His hair takes Effort. He's kind of loud and theatrical. (Also he had a ship built and furnished before he learned to climb a rope ladder.)

Many of those traits- wearing conspicuous clothing, taking pride in his appearance, being theatrical- that S1 people in the Republic of Pirates / aboard the Revenge seem to hold against Stede? Ed shares them. Ed gets a pass for his eccentricities because he's got a rep as a brilliant sailor. But I think he also gets a pass because his eccentricities are less apparently eccentric to an average viewer: Ed's uniform doesn't make any nods to 18th century dress, and it's not camp or femme.

It feels like a bit of the second-hand embarrassment some viewers feel toward Stede comes from (1) not recognizing how much he has in common with Ed, (2) discounting both the soft skills and improvisational fighting that have kept him alive, (3) assuming that masc presentation tracks with competence, and (4) assuming that anyone in the narrative who finds Stede charming / impressive/ "The Fucking Dude" must also be incapable or of questionable judgment.

When it sounds like someone thinks Ed ought to find Stede embarrassing, I have questions.

I'm fairly sure this is one of the two main reasons for nearly every bad take in this fandom. Which is rather strange given the main themes of the show.

THIS!! it all honestly ties in with the reasons I've never been into the steard, too. like 95% of the time it came (and still comes) across like people feel the need to ~butch him up~ in order to find him attractive. the amount of times I have seen the take that ed would NOW find stede super hot and irresistible with a beard (and an earring, maybe some tattoos, definitely no frills or lace) has made me a little...unhinged. in a negative way.

(which is, by the way, why I don't mind the beard he had in the dream, because it was RIDICULOUS and not real.)

anyway. there seems to be a lot of projection going on sometimes. is all.

minor thing but another point against the "ed is just a naturally violent and temperamental guy whose moods switch on a dime" interpretation is that ed always warns people when they push him too far. he's honestly trying to set up a boundary. they just never listen.

It's every single time. It's not subtle.

The racist boat captain, too, he asks "what's that supposed to mean" and waits for the asshole to double down before he starts yelling. He doesn't shoot Izzy until Izzy blames everything, once again, on Ed's feelings. He gives people every chance.

This guy is not unpredictable. You'd only think that if you think you're justified in the abuse you're hurling at him and make him out to be the aggressor for biting back.

I've seen several sites mention this, it's real.

Do not make the MISTAKE of thinking you need to put your side forward. The Guardian is transphobic as fuck, and will twist your words. DO NOT ENGAGE.

By the way, this is in the aftermath of the Cass Report, and the goal will be to make Trans DIY something that needs to be regulated or stamped out. DO NOT ENGAGE.

“Did you know the Italians have 200 different words for pasta?”

Now available in Inuktitut syllabics.

I beg your pardon?? Italians have more than 250 words for pasta (or even 400, if we count all the types that aren’t on the market anymore)

That’s the trouble with the Inuit. Always underestimating the true number of Italian words for pasta.

The world vs. Italy when the topic is pasta

>that aren’t on the market anymore

I’m sorry, are you saying Italy as a whole just straight up retires types of pastas like LEGO sets?
