The Peacemaker Queen

"I must admit, it's refreshing how this 'blog' allows me to speak with the people. The company of nobles is often so... draining." [Independent RP blog for Queen Elincia of Crimea from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. This blog is post-RD by default and not spoiler-free, but if you want to set an RP at a different time in her life you just have to ask.]

“It’s been five years. Are you truly so surprised?” Sanaki had to stifle a laugh at the woman’s expense, leaning back and tapping some fingers against the table. “I don’t expect they will be too upset you missed it. There was only a handful of us there in the first place - some members of the Holy Guard, a handful of the others around…we tried to convince Mia to come, but I think she saw through the trap for once. We’ll get Alondite back one way or another…”
She trailed off, frowning a little and shaking her head. “Tanith wanted Micaiah to attend, but we eventually decided it would be better not to risk the fact she’s my elder sister leaking out to the general public. But yes, let’s get to business.”

She tossed a few papers onto the table, leaning back and keeping a firm look on Elincia’s eyes. “Yes. Killed. Such unfortunate…tragedies those were.” She wondered exactly how much of her actions in Begnion’s political sphere the Queen was familiar with. “Surprisingly expensive tragedies, I’ll admit. Who knew firemen drove such hard bargains?”

The Queen giggled. “Oh, well, that does make me feel better... though I don’t think Mia really saw through the trap. Apparently she finally puzzled out that Lucia was her rival from the fortune she’d gotten, and the wedding was around the same time as they nearly killed each other in their first duel. I... don’t think wooden swords were meant to move so fast.” She looked over the papers, maintaining her composure. “Yes, I’m well aware of those bargains. Did you know they’ll charge just to hold a conversation? Apparently Bastian gets a discount, but I don’t know if that’s a friendship thing or simply a bulk purchase arrangement.”

“Hm... it seems most of the trade guilds listed here have new heads. Was that... an expensive tragedy as well?”

Was it too late to ask for a one-piece instead of a two-piece? She wondered to herself. Nephenee just felt too exposed like this, though hearing the Queen’s words made her happy, the farmgirl wasn’t sure she could honestly wear this swimsuit to the beach. “That’s…that’s mighty kind of ya to say, yer majesty.” Somehow, despite her reddening cheeks, and obvious embarrassment, at least this wasn’t as bad as the beauty treatment she got from Calill. “Are ya’ll…Ah mean… are you sure it’s really…me though?”

“Hmmm...” Elincia scratched her chin, pondering the question. “I... I’ll be honest. I’ve only ever seen you in work clothes or your armor. But I guess the real question is, what do you think ‘really you’ means?” She put her hands on Nephenee’s shoulders and gently guided her to face a mirror. “I think... the real you is hiding. She doesn’t have the confidence or the courage to come out, unless she’s in her armor or her work clothes. But I think the real you is a beautiful young woman who needs to believe in herself, and I want to help her do that.”

“Take your time, dear.” Elincia would wait patiently, looking around to see if she could get herself a new swimsuit. Not that she disliked her current one, but… there were certainly some interesting designs.

She fumbled around in the stall for a bit, Goddess, this was like wearing underwear! And she was supposed to wear this in the open? Oh, was it really too late for her to try the short pants and light shirt option?

“M-Miss Elincia? Ah… Ah’m finished…could ya come check?” She called from inside the change stall, there was no way Nephenee could walk out in the store like this, not with so many people around.

Elincia stepped in, quickly closing the door behind her... and gasping. “Oh, Nephenee... you look amazing! Even more beautiful than I had thought... and your muscles! Your body is something any woman would be proud of, and I think that suit fits it perfectly.”

“Surprised, are we? Not that flattery will get you anywhere.” Sanaki let a slight smirk flicker across her lips when she saw the older woman get caught off guard. She’d always had her suspicions about how close Elincia and her friend Lucia had been - looked like that little tidbit of gossip was confirmed. Sanaki shrugged as she adjusted herself in her seat a little bit, leaning forwards and resting her chin on tented hands as she raised an eyebrow.

“Tea would be nice.” She said lightly, doing her best to at least attempt and put on a more mature air than she normally did. “You’re right, it has been a long time. I’m afraid the last war may have left Begnion in a far worse state than it did Crimea - I’ve been busy. Then my damned prime minister got married, that put my schedule back another year…you know how it is.”

“Well, anyone would be surprised to see an old friend return looking so... changed.” Elincia took a deep breath to compose herself before beginnig to pour tea for both of them. Her eyes kept returning to Sanaki, though, mostly because it didn’t feel quite real that this tall beauty was the same person as the little girl she’d met. “I heard about Sephiran and Tanith... I can’t imagine losing two of my most trusted nobles at the same time. Do tell them I’m sorry to have missed the wedding, but we were still putting out some fires after the Asheran Church fell apart.” She sipped her tea, finally relaxing. “But I suppose we should concern ourselves with the future more than the present. We’ve finally rebuilt enough to resume normal trade, but we’ve no agreements still standing, after so many signatories on both sides were killed or found guilty of treason.”

Elincia smiled. “Thank you, Nephenee. Now, I’ll let you grab one or two to start with, and I’ll wait out here for you to change.”

The girl looked at the two choices Elincia had before her, thinking it over, Nephenee took the blue one. Blue was more her color. She gives it a quick lookover, then turns for the changeroom stalls. “Ah’ll…um…. Ah’ll jus’ be a few minutes.”

“Take your time, dear.” Elincia would wait patiently, looking around to see if she could get herself a new swimsuit. Not that she disliked her current one, but... there were certainly some interesting designs.

“Ah, the oh-so noble Queen of Crimea. Naturally, you would be here.” Lekain sniffed, resisting the urge to scoff further. Whatever grand plan the goddess had for them here within this realm, it would not do to needlessly antagonize.

“After all…whatever divine hand guides this Summoner must have a fondness for those with a divine link like ourselves. You, with the Dark Goddess, and myself as the Chosen of Ashera.”

Oh dear. Elincia was... having difficulty not vomiting. Why did the Summoner have to call *him*? And what was he blathering about? “Duke Gaddos.” Her tone was coldly professional. “I... I do not fully understand this place, but it seems you’ve mistaken the timeline here. I’ve no ties to any god yet.”

Nephenee’s blush just intensified, being reminded of the time she was given ‘lady lessons’ from Calill. Remembering when Calill gussied her up like a doll, caking makeup on her, and then trying to teach her how to walk and talk.
Of course, she knew Elincia was not like Calill, and Nephenee trusted Elincia’s judgement on this. “A-Alright… Ah can do that…”

Elincia smiled. “Thank you, Nephenee. Now, I’ll let you grab one or two to start with, and I’ll wait out here for you to change.”

The blush returned to Nephenee’s face. “But Ah, er, I… I can’t show off like that.” Hands are raised over her chest. “I mean, I don’t know if I’m the right build for swimming.” Slowly, her accent returns. “Ah’m not sure anyone would find mah figure all that fetchin’, Ah’m not pretty like you are, Ms. Elincia.”

“Nephenee... that’s not true at all.” Elincia shook her head. “You’re a lovely woman under your armor. You just need to trust that... I’ll tell you what.” Her eyes lit up as she got an idea. “How about you take a two-piece and put it on, and then I’ll step into the changing room and give you my honest opinion? I promise, you’ll be able to pull it off as well as anyone.”

Elincia nodded. “I would. Buying cute clothes with a cute girl is better than what I had planned for my day.” She winked at the soldier, leading her to the shop in question before she could protest. “And here we are! Go ahead, find something you think looks good, and I’ll tell you how it suits you.”

“Well, gee, Ah–Ah don’t know what t’ say, yer majesty.” She stopped, taking a deep breath to hide her country accent, even with her helmet though, Nephenee couldn’t hide the growing blush.

Looking at the clothes, Nephenee couldn’t find much in terms of swimwear that she really liked, it would show off so much skin, people would see her figure… She winds up fumbling over to the men’s section, grabbing a beach shirt and some trunks. Boys clothes suited her more than dresses anyway, despite her armor normally sporting a skirt. “How about these, your majesty?”

“Ah...” Elincia frowned. “I understand that you’re shy, but... do you not want to go in the water at all? That shirt was meant to be worn only on the beach... I saw some two-piece suits with shorts, but I’m afraid you’ll need a proper swimming top. The ocean is the best part of the beach!”

@lightofcrimea liked for a starter with Adult!Sanaki

It grated at Sanaki a little that she was the one travelling to different countries these days. When she was a child, it was always the Daein or Crimean politicians having to travel back and forth between Begnion and their home, partially because of her young age but mostly due to the vast power imbalances.

To say that Begnion’s military and political position was far worse these days was an understatement. The second damned war had almost destroyed it entirely. At least she’d managed to put off the official state visit for a few years, the last thing she needed was to be halfway through puberty while thinking her way through foreign ground. The shock on Queen Elincia’s face when she saw what Sanaki had grown into would just be a bonus.

“Queen Elincia.” She said smoothly upon entering the dining room, bypassing most normal protocols as she sat down opposite from her. She couldn’t be bothered sitting around with the two-hour introduction in the throne room, this was much more her speed. “It’s been a while.”

Elincia had been glad to hear Sanaki was willing to meet her like this; it had taken some doing to get the dining room cleared of everyone save servants, but that was the best way to avoid getting bogged down in formalities. She was sure Sanaki and herself had enough to get through without reciting titles and making empty but expected statements. She was even more glad that no one else was around to see her jaw drop. It only took her seconds to recover, but she was sure she’d been seen. How... how was this even possible? “Ah, Empress Sanaki.” Her voice, at least, was holding steady. “I’ll admit, when I heard you had grown, I did not realize... how much. But you’ve become a lovely young woman.” She held out a steaming kettle. “Do you want some tea? With how long it’s been since our last meeting, I suspect we will need the caffeine.”

“No, normal small clothes wouldn’t work. They’d likely be swept away by the waves. But… that doesn’t mean you need to deny yourself the chance to have fun!” Elincia took Nephenee’s arm in hers. “There’s a shop just nearby with swimsuits in all sizes and styles! I’m sure we can find you one!”

“Ya… ya’d help some ol’ country gal like me find a swimsuit?” Nephenee arched a brow, going shopping with the Queen now? Really?

Not that she wasn’t excited about it, but surely Elincia would rather be relaxing, she could easily send a retainer to accompany Nephenee to the shop, or even just tell her where to go.

“That’s mighty kind of you, Ah really appreciate it yer majesty.”

Elincia nodded. “I would. Buying cute clothes with a cute girl is better than what I had planned for my day.” She winked at the soldier, leading her to the shop in question before she could protest. “And here we are! Go ahead, find something you think looks good, and I’ll tell you how it suits you.”

“But Ah… Ah haven’t got a bathin’ suit, less ya count mah mall clothes, but ah… I couldn’t strip down t’ mah skivvies in front of all these folks.” Nephenee blushed, taking off her helmet, and the accent slowly returning.
Mostly because she was distracted by all the ‘distractions’ walking around her in swimwear, even the Queen.

“No, normal small clothes wouldn’t work. They’d likely be swept away by the waves. But... that doesn’t mean you need to deny yourself the chance to have fun!” Elincia took Nephenee’s arm in hers. “There’s a shop just nearby with swimsuits in all sizes and styles! I’m sure we can find you one!”

“By the Goddess–Elincia–erm, tarnation–Ah mean—” Nephenee almost immediately snaps to attention when the royal walks by.
“Y-your highness, that is to say, no, I have never been to a beach before. I used to swim down by the river with the other village children why I was smaller, but we mostly wore small clothes and a shirt.” She said, without the accent or drawl

“Please, Nephenee, you needn’t stand on formalities with me.” Elincia gives her a reassuring smile, taking a sip from her drink. She isn’t totally sure what it is, other than that it’s fruity and Calill was right that she’d like it. “I suppose that makes sense. It’s a fair distance from Ohma to the coast, after all. But the beach is... different. It’s a place for everyone to relax. Regardless of birth or station.”

“A-Ah do declare, why are so many folks runnin’ ‘round in their underoos?”

-those would be ‘swimsuits’ Nephenee-

“Oh... is this your first time at a beach, Nephenee?”

Elincia walked up to the soldier, an iced drink in one hand. “Skimpy clothes are normal here, because of the heat and the ocean. Wear too much, and you’ll either bake, or be too waterlogged to swim. Thus, swimsuits end up looking like... well, undergarments.”
