The sun hadn’t yet risen, but Clark couldn’t sleep. Stripes of orange light shone through the blinds onto the opposite wall, and below the bedroom window, Metropolis was as noisy as it was wont to be. For once, Clark welcomed the city’s chatter – it was a change from the disquiet running through his mind.
The apartment was quiet, save for Lois’ breathing beside him and the ticking of the wall clock in the kitchen. Familiar sounds. They were usually calming ones, but Clark eased himself up from the bed until he was sitting, leaning against the headboard, making sure to keep the covers where Lois liked them. He didn’t want to wake her. She needed her sleep, he knew.
He looked back towards the window, for the moment just listening to the cars of Metropolis and the wind over the harbor a few miles away. It wasn’t until he felt her hand on his bare torso – over the scar – that he looked back over at Lois. “I’m sorry,” he said, quietly. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”

She woke easily―not only due to the excess warmth beside her as she slept, which was evidently still going to take some readjusting to, but also from the movements he made while sitting up against the headboard.

For a moment she was content watching him as he observed the still lively city below them. She was quiet, eyes heavy-lidded as sleep took its time leaving her.

She didn’t consciously realize what she was doing as she brought her hand to run gently over the faded scar that stretched across his torso.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed his gaze shift, his undivided attention falling to her.

“What is it like?”

Getting back into the swing of things. Rebuilding his life. All of it.

⚡ “It happened a long time ago. I don’t know why you want to know the story about my father. He’s in prison for being falsely accused and that’s the facts I am sticking to”. ⚡

“Exactly―falsely accused. I can help. From what I read, you’ve always sworn by his innocence. You have to have a good reason why. What happened?”

She froze, leaving her accelerated heartbeat as the only sound disrupting the silence that had fallen between them.

Her chances of making it into Wayne Manor without tipping him off at all had been slim at best. Given his vast resources, and the technology he utilized on a daily basis, she knew that much going in.

And yet there she stood, her back still partially to him as she spoke.

“Eight weeks seems excessive, don’t you think, Mister Wayne?”

⚡ ・゚:╰ ° THE PANIC from earlier faded &&. distorted into affectionate fondness, as the smile was returned with a bright beam that emphasized just how PLEASED he was to be recognized. Wally bounced in place, laughing lightly.
Lois! It’s super great to SEE you! &&. yeah! I’m all grown up. ❞
HE FLEXED with a laugh, winking playfully while doing so.
❝ Annnnyways, how are you? Thought Supes would be the one saving you…? ❞

Rather than offering an explanation right away, Lois shrugged, and crossed her arms over her chest.

“Something about flooding in Mumbai last I heard.”

She looked him over once more, her relaxed smile still present, as she appeared rather unaffected by the events of the last few minutes.

“I haven’t seen you around. How are you―you know, aside from all grown up?”

“That’s kind of my definition; kicking && screaming basically.” A wink was sent in the journalist’s direction, lips twitched in a wide grin when the other admitted she might be a fan. Dinah didn’t care that much for compliments, but who didn’t enjoy them ? It was always appreciated.
“You do?” Now, she wasn’t sure she was telling the truth, considering the fact she didn’t even remember why Dinah was here in the first place. But she wouldn’t be one to complain && call her out a liar in front of everyone. She was Superman’s girlfriend after all, better not mess with any of them for her own good.
“Yeah, whenever you need me, let me know, I’ll stop by. I’m actually pretty tired of all the gossips && bullshits they can pour on me on that Justice League channel.” A roll of her eyes coupled with a heavy && loud sigh. “Time to fix the truth.” She said with a laugh.

“Well, it is also nice to have another woman around. It was getting tiring, actually.”

Her smirk remained, eyebrow was quirked still in amusement.

“Right. Not exactly hard-hitting journalism.”

Her eyes widened slightly in surprise as her smile grew into a genuine grin. She hadn’t been entirely serious in her interview request, but she was certainly not going to allow this opportunity to slip through her fingers.

“Of course. Anytime. That’s what I do―speak truth to power. I think an interview with Black Canary might just make the front page.”

“Did not think or did not want?” she wondered out loud. She could understand why she would not be on Lois’ list of people to see. And yet, she was worried. “I just wanted to know how you are faring and whether I could be of any assistance. I have been busy as of late, but I am unoccupied now.” Diana knew saving everyone was not possible, but that did not make her feel better. It was irrational, but part of her thought she could have done more. And maybe she was overcompensating now. “I will leave if that is what you want too. I just wanted to ask,” she added.

The tone of Diana’s voice suggested that an answer to her question wasn’t needed, so Lois remained quiet for a moment longer than was truly necessary as she gathered her thoughts.

There was no point in lying. First of all, Diana seemed to care. She seemed to understand. Lois lacked people in her life that she could talk to about the extent of her loss. Perhaps this would do her some good…

“I’m still adjusting.”

Reluctantly, she looked back up to meet Diana’s eyes.

“No―I appreciate it. Thank you.”

A pause.

“What about you? I didn’t think you’d still be around anymore. After…”
