Not-doing-too-good sentence starters

“Whoa, are you okay?”

“You took that hit pretty hard…”

“Don’t stand up yet.”

“That definitely looks broken…”

“Walk it off.”

“How are you feeling?”

“When was the last time you slept?”

“You look like shit.”

“Have you been eating enough?”

“Here, let me help you.”

“Why are you limping?”

“You’re really pale…”

“Did you just go throw up?”

“Why aren’t you eating?”

“______? You’re bleeding…really bad.”

“That looks infected.”

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?!”

“I told you you’d get sick.”

“How many fingers am I holding up?”

“Wake up–you were hyperventilating, are you okay?”

“It was just a dream, you’re alright.”

“Look at me–you’re safe.”

“Take a deep breath.”

“Are you bleeding?!”

“How’d you get a bruise like that?”

“What happened?”

“Let me help you!”

“Can you hear me?”

“You hit your head pretty hard.”

“Don’t move.”

“I know it hurts, I’m sorry.”

“Breathe.”

Silence made an appearance as the two of them seemed to hold their breath in that moment. Lavi, who had been slightly taken aback by the soft spoken words, blinked with evident surprise before his eye proceeded to narrow in confusion ; head also tiliting instinctively despite their close proximity while at it.

“– YEAH, it’s kinda obvious where y’are. Like, only two inches away from me.”

His voice was awkward but still keeping ever present playfulness, not wanting to make the female feel as if her presence or company was unwelcome ; for it definitely wasn’t. Yet what caught the redhead’s attention from the start, had been the second part of Lenalee’s odd statement. Lips curled at the edges to form a slow smile in reply to the gentle touch of feminine fingertips against his cheeks before they parted to finally clear the mild curiosity that now irked him.

“– BUT what’s exactly ‘ere to understand, huh?”

◊º≈‡≈º◊ The young girl watched the emotions play over his face, eyes flickering    involuntarily to his lips and back to his eye when he tilted his head.    Her fingers traveled to tuck a stray lock of hair back behind her ear,    finding herself smiling in return as she straightened and made a small    noise of amusement at his playfulness.

“Silly.” she replied fondly but then faltered, smiling slipping slightly    and brows furrowing.

What, really, was there for her to understand? No one else had thought there    was anything out of the ordinary, but she could just feel something. Something    that - if left alone - would eventually cause her to lose him. Her fingers fiddled    with the hem of her skirt as she thought.

“It’s just that,” she started slowly, picking her words carefully, “you’ve been    gone more often, and I know your Bookman work is important, but it feels like    there’s another reason, like there’s always more to it. I want you to be honest with    me, and talk to me if there’s anything bothering you. I understand that there’s more    to you that what you tell people.”                                                                                                 ◊º≈‡≈º◊

I NEED HELP

{I very recently found out that the fees for my living arrangements have not been covered by my sponsor and that there is nothing they can do to help me, leaving me in debt and terrified that I’m gonna get evicted when I have nowhere to go. And being a uni student I already don’t have much in the way of money, so in absolute desperation I’ve made a GoFundMe here and would be eternally grateful for any help, even if it’s just a signal boost please}

She doesn’t need to say it; he knows he hurt her. He’s known her a bit too long, gotten too good at looking past facades for the simple fact that he wore one every day of his life. But she’s convincing; there’s a brief second where he wonders if perhaps he was misunderstanding far more than he was pretending to. She jokes with him, voice steady and filled with familiar light laughter that should’ve put him at ease.

“We kinda would!” Lavi says, laughing just as brightly, heart clenching painfully in his chest because he can’t shake the feeling that he’s hurt her and he hates that. More than that, he hates knowing she sparks such feelings in him. He shouldn’t feel anything for anyone. He wants to agree when she speaks of Miranda, that perhaps she’s rubbing off on her, but he knows better. Lenalee is like Allen. The two of them shape the people around them—not the other way around.

Lavi knew that because it was exactly that that had happened to him.

“Uh, yeah, okay,” he said quickly when he realized she’d spoke, stretching tired limbs after a long mission. “See ya later, Lena.”

But deep down, he hopes there’s a long while before they meet again. He doesn’t know if he can face her so soon; he doesn’t know if he can look into her eyes, knowing he was lying to her as much as he was to himself. He could deny his feelings all he wanted, but they were still there, haunting him. That wasn’t something he could have; she wasn’t something he could have. And yet…

“Damn it…”

He reaches up, touched his long fingers to his face, rubs his forehead for a brief moment before ripping his bandana off and throwing it on the floor as if it were somehow the cause of all this. “Damn it…!

In that moment, he did the only thing he knew to do: He returned to his work. Immersed himself back into his book instead of wallowing in his self-loathing. And he stays that way all damn night.

◊º≈‡≈º◊ This was torture. The young girl had spent so many hours replaying the    fiasco in the library that she didn’t even notice the sun set until it was    dark and cold, her eyelids getting too heavy to stay open anymore. She    climbed into bed to get some sleep, hoping tomorrow would be better.

Those hopes were long forgotten by the time 3 am rolled around, having    been tossing and turning, falling in and out of sleep in bursts of nightmares    and muddled feelings that she couldn’t quite remember when she woke up.    Lenalee had long given up on trying to sleep, staring at the ceiling with bleary    eyes and hair sticking to her face. She was just so exhausted, and nothing    seemed to give her any relief.

The library would be nice this time of night.’ the thought moved slowly through    her mind. It only took her a few moments to decide it was right and slide herself    out of bed, forgoing her shoes and padding slowly back to the library. It took    so much of her concentration to walk that she managed to make it all the way    to the large window seat, settle in, and start fiddling with the Innocence around    her ankles before her groggy brain even registered that there was still a person    at the table near the window. She nearly jumped when she realised it was Lavi,    hunched over a book.

“Lavi, why the hell are you still awake? It’s like 3 am!” her voice was filled    with concern, wide eyes staring at him in slight alarm for his health. Part on her    wondering if he’d noticed when she’d come in, and why she hadn’t noticed him,    but brushed the nagging thoughts away.                                                                                                ◊º≈‡≈º◊

I’m Here, I Understand

Forehead to Forehead: I’m here, I understand.
It was certainly frustrating how whatever he was currently feeling couldn’t just be blamed on exhaustion. Keeping the cheerful and playful mask constantly, had been quite the challenge lately. Why, though? That’s what the Bookman apprentice would love to figure out, for certain. Instead, he found himself feeling angry towards everything; for no particular reason. Sad, distressed…
Such madness. Such a failure. It all resulted so overwhelming he couldn’t help but to hide himself in some kind of lonesome place at times. The library, his room; even the roof. Needing some kind of breather, to be alone; to focus and erase every feeling altogether. Exactly like he had been trained to do.
But it didn’t work as well when interrupted, of course. Emerald hue promptly looked up at Lenalee, who now stood in front of where he was currently sitting; the library’s windowsill. A friendly smile was quickly plastered on his lips, then. Practiced motion that no longer needed a thought or impulse. Yet, the girl’s next actions had Lavi parting his lips in surprise; and so, eradicating that fake gesture for something more genuine as he now blinked widely at his comrade. Color rushing to his cheeks at the unexpected and sudden proximity, not daring to move in case they would end up in a more compromising position. For their noses were already touching enough as it was, thank you very much.

“– EH, Lenalee. Not that I’m not happy t’see ya, but what’cha doin’ exactly?”

◊º≈‡≈º◊ It was common knowledge that Lenalee cared deeply for everyone in the    Order, especially those who she worked closest with. What most people    didn’t know was just how empathetic the young Exorcist really was. She    felt what others felt, even if it was subconsciously. So when she had noticed    the more frequent absence of her favourite redhead, she’d suspected something    was up. She had started paying closer attention when he was around, noticing    something in his expressions that wasn’t the same as before, she just couldn’t    quite put her finger on what it was, what emotions were just under the surface.

Her nurturing instinct wins out eventually and she finds him in the library, face    smooth and relaxed, almost blank. To her, it looked like he was empty, the    usual warmth she felt slipping away and before she knew what she was doing,    she had walked right up to him and softly placed her forehead against his. Violet    eyes blinked slowly, surprised at her own actions but not feeling the need to pull    away as she watched his face flushed with colour.

“I need you to know that I’m here, and I understand.” Lenalee replies quietly,    fingertips unconsciously moving to lightly brush against his warm cheeks. She isn’t    sure why she needs him to know anything, but the words were already out there.                                                                                              ◊º≈‡≈º◊
