sometimes I remember that my mother, who has never heard of tumblr dot com, had the most white-hot take on Good Omens I have ever encountered. she heroically read the book at the urging of her hyperfixated fourteen year old daughter and when I asked her opinions she said something that will haunt me forever. the fandom is honest-to-God not ready.

when I asked her whom she imagined while reading about Crowley she said Danny DeVito

Oh God that means Arnold Schwarzenegger should be Aziraphale.

I love it, @aziraphalelookedwretched please thank your mom for me

Guys. I did it:

[image description: A logo that says “Good Omens” under it, Arnold Schwarzenegger in a poorly photoshoped light grey suit, next to Danny Devito in a black suit with sunglasses]

@aziraphalelookedwretched Seriously, say your mom thank you from me

Four Inch Window: Chapter Twelve

In which I pay to tribute to @cesperanza's 4 Minute Window in a slightly different way.

See intro here for more explanation. Chapter One here. Chapter Two. Chapter Three. Chapter Four. Chapter Five. Chapter Six. Chapter Seven. Chapter Eight. Chapter Nine. Chapter Ten. Chapter Eleven.

And while I am at it, allow me to thank you all so much for being so excited alongside me! Especially @albymangroves, @revolutionaryjo, @monicawoe and of course... @cesperanza

-

Our last kitchen post! When last we met, I was debating the virtues of black and white herringbone tile for the backsplash, versus something in copper.

I printed off a photo of copper tiles to see how I felt about it.

Conclusion: not for this project. It's not Steve and Bucky. I do like it, but for myself, maybe. *files away*

So, yeah. Keeping the first tile. Once I knew I would do that, I did a few things I have ben putting off:

  • Deciding on a wall color (I went with...beige! I wanted a slightly contrasting neutral.)
  • Cutting out the tiny windows on either side of the sink cabinet. These windows essentially face a brick wall and narrow channel without street access, per @cesperanza, so they offer some light in what she describes as a fortress of a building.
  • Making curtains. Newspapers may have worked for Bucky in Civil War, but this Bucky is in a healthier place and has great taste, so I chose some some green curtains that are very evocative of the 1930s while also bringing in an organic feel that alongside the plank shelves makes the kitchen feel really homey.

Finally, I added basically every kitchen accessory I have to get a sense of what I liked in their space. And, as promised in yesterday's post, I added one of Steve's paintings of the colorful pre-war medicines (provided by @cesperanza!) How great does it look with the curtains?

Who gave them the Le Creuset dutch oven? Will they get as much flack as Vice President Harris did? (obviously not) Why do they have so many pitchers? Surely Captains America wash their dishes right away so why are they piled in the sink?

Also, you get a sneak preview of a certain curved glass ceiling because I have started the studio!

Steve followed Bucky through a door and up a battered flight of wooden stairs. Two doors faced each other on the landing, both closed. Bucky pointed to one of them and said, "This is for tomorrow. It's a surprise; you'll like it," and Steve's felt his throat closing up, because for the first time in a long time, that was likely to be true: Bucky actually knew him, and knew what he liked, so he might actually like it. - Four Minute Window

What is behind that door?

"C'mon," he said. "Show you something," and she followed him through the door and up a flight of battered stairs. There were two doors on the landing, and she had a quick glimpse into their apartment—a small square table and chairs, a tiny kitchen and a beat-up sofa beyond—before Barnes yanked that door shut; our life, not yours.
He opened the other door and she took a surprised breath: the studio had a curved glass roof like a greenhouse and was full of easels and paint cans. It was bright and smelled like turpentine.

Still under construction... but wow, I am having a lot of fun with this. I hope you are, too.

Oooh! Oooh!  I know this one! They have so many pitchers because they are not part of our culture of plastic bottles; they buy glass bottles and paper cartons but they also make a lot of drinks for themselves: orangeade, lemonade, iced tea. Also Bucky’s mom thought it was low class to put  packaging right on the table so he puts milk in a pitcher and ketchup in a little bowl, and butter in the dish just by old habit. (Sure, he was once a deadly assassin but he’s not an animal or anything!) Steve, otoh, could give a shit.

Darcy lowered herself into the almost-too-hot water an inch at a time, hissing slightly as it hit her skin. She normally took her showers at a pinch below scalding, but even with the freezing night air, she needed her body to adjust to the heat of the hot tub.

“Hot tubs. It’s just like taking a bath, but with other people’s dirt as well as your own,” Bekah said, already lowered into the water with a drink in hand.

Darcy wrinkled her nose at Bekah’s words. “Ugh. Hopefully you’re not too dirty. It’s been a bit since my last tetanus shot,” she groused, attempting to sit on one of the benches, but taking her time.

“Body soup,” Natasha murmured, looking down at the water as if she wasn’t sure about it anymore.

“Oh, come on. It’s fine,” Bekah said with a dismissive wave of her hand, the gesture a little loose due to the alcohol already in her system, “they have chemicals that kill anything bad.” She finished the bottle in her hand, then reached behind her and grabbed another from the cooler they’d filled for just that purpose.

Darcy held a hand out and Bekah filled it with a bottle full of something fruity and pink. “I happen to love taking baths.”

“So I’ve heard,” Natasha said with a grin.

Darcy shrugged her shoulders as she twisted the top off her drink. “I’m not ashamed. I love baths and bubbles. Ours is a love for the ages.” Now that she was adjusted, the water felt great. A slight breeze drifted over the dunes near the beach, just enough to cause goosebumps to flash across her skin and ruffle the wisps of hair that had escaped her bun.

When the boys had retreated to the garage to ogle… something that had to do with a car and held absolutely no interest for her… Darcy had suggested a dip. She’d felt a little self-conscious at the thought of being in her swimsuit around people - a leftover childhood trauma involving Hebrew camp and a horrible little shit named Phillip - but she’d felt better knowing she’d be in the water by the time the boys joined.

“No, it’s adorable,” Natasha grinned from across the water, gracefully lifting a leg above the water line before pulling it to her chest.

“I’ll show you adorable, twinkle toes,” Darcy said with a chin dip in Natash’a direction.

“Low blow, Lewis. Leave my mangled feet out of this.”

Darcy looked at the girls in turn, a smile on her lips when she recognized the comfort and familiarity they’d all come to share. Her circle of friends had grown exponentially in the past few months and it continued to surprise her how well they all seemed to get along. “Clint told me he finds your feet sexy,” Darcy said with a smirk at Natasha. “Though he says everything on you is sexy, so I’m not sure he’s the least biased or the most credible.” She watched Natasha’s eyes brighten a bit, but the redhead just smiled and took another drink of what Darcy suspected was straight vodka.

“How about we just enjoy the fact that we’ve got good drinks, don’t have any homework assignments, and get to sleep in tomorrow,” Bekah said, lifting her drink into the air.

“To days sleeping in,” Darcy agreed with a grin.

“To lizards!” Bekah added.

“To perfect fouettes!” Natasha offered.

To hot purple budgie smugglers!

The girls all turned as one toward Clint’s voice. He was standing, arms proud at his hips like Peter Pan, in the smallest Speedo Darcy had ever seen. He was all compact muscle and lines, something Darcy hadn’t anticipated, and she wasn’t sure how he’d managed to get all of that into all of there. She turned toward Natasha, eyes wide. “I said damn, I said got damn.”

Fandom: Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: James “Bucky” Barnes/Steve Rogers Additional Tags: Advent Calendar Series: Part 19 of 4 Minute Window  (PART 19!!!!!!!)

This is the master post for the 4 Minute Window Advent calendar 2021! (*boggles*) As always, my goal is to tell a little bit of story each day (knock wood) between the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. Explicit eventually, the rest as it comes. Times being what they are, we might be even more loosey-goosey than normal. Apologies if I come in late or there are typos etc. but I’ll get it all done and patched up eventually. As always, feel free to send me your hopes and dreams and I’ll see what I can do!

I note also that this year there’s a secondary, related project being posted on Tumblr called “4 Inch Window” - @melllacita is building a DOLLHOUSE REPLICA of the Coney Island Design & Construction building where Steve and Bucky work and live. She’s posting pictures of it in progress and telling you lots about how to build awesome dollhouses. The prologue is here or you can follow @melllacita’s tumblr for all the 4 inch window updates.

Hope you enjoy!

the pros of reading ao3 fics in public is that their layout is so clean and simple that people would think you’re reading some academic researches when you’re in fact reading a 50k fic. the cons is that you need to control your face all the fucking time

An additional feature: the layout is clean and simple BUT anyone familiar with AO3 will immediately recognize it. Pro or con? You decide.

But you know, what were they doing at the devil’s sacrament
