im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

palestinians deserve the right to be able to travel freely in our homeland. to even visit our homeland. for us to have citizenship and rights to our own country. to grow our plants. practice our religions. live without fear that our children can be kidnapped by israeli forces on their violent whims. to not have our life savings poured into building a home for our families that are torn down without real warning by israeli bulldozers. to no longer be refugees. like this is real life. this is real.

we don’t want to be reduced to a never ending slogan. we want to put down our need for resistance. to rest & to live.

Israel’s Channel 12 revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fears that the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague will issue orders to arrest him and other officials due to violations in the war on Gaza. The channel revealed that an urgent discussion took place on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office that has remained confidential until now, in which worrying scenarios and serious concerns emerged that would allow the issuance of international arrest warrants from ICC in The Hague against senior Israeli officials, security leaders and politicians, including Netanyahu himself. It reported that the highest political and legal elite in Israel were present at the discussion.
The channel confirmed that Netanyahu asked the British and German foreign ministers during their visit to Israel to intervene to prevent the issuance of arrest warrants by the ICC. It explained that Tel Aviv has obtained information and messages indicating the possibility of such orders being issued on a large scale and that they may be issued at the end of next month. Channel 12 reported that the discussions raised the issue of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and the statements made by several countries that Israel is violating international law, as well as treating the civilian population in the Gaza Strip in a manner that violates the Fourth Geneva Convention. At the end of the discussion, a decision was made to take some last-minute urgent measures with the ICC and influential political parties to prevent the issuance of arrest warrants.

A general strike has been declared in the West Bank

A comprehensive strike in the occupied West Bank to protest Israel’s violent incursions paralysed life in the occupied territory on Sunday. The strike came in response to calls from political forces, unions, and civil society organisations after the Israeli army raided the Tulkarm city and the Nur Shams camp in the northern West Bank. At least 14 Palestinians were killed in Israeli military raids on the Nur Shams refugee camp, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Saturday. Earlier Saturday, Faisal Salama, the head of the services committee in the Nur Shams camp, told Anadolu that the Israeli attack caused massive damage to infrastructure in the camp. Parallel to its onslaught on the Gaza Strip since 7 October, the Israeli army has escalated raids and arrests in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.

Based off available sources do you think the negative assessment of empress jia of jin dynasty is fair? If so why?

I used to be a big defender of hers, but I've subsequently studied her regime in a lot more detail and am no longer positively inclined.

I don't know to what degree I credit the allegations regarding her personal behavior. They could be true, but they're also pretty stock accusations usually leveled at powerful women in patriarchal societies. In her case it's probably a mixture of both.

As the leader of the imperial court, she was only effective at keeping her family on the top of the pile - and even that faltered out eventually. The Jin court was internally dysfunctional and not able to properly respond to the various challenges the country faced (which I previously thought, mistakenly, were handled well). It was a regime incapable of governing.

From what I've seen, I think similarly. I have received a couple of asks about Jia Nanfeng. I also used to think she was better than she was when it came to running the country. I tend to put competence above moral character when it comes to evaluating historical figures, but she was neither.

If you want a competent and powerful woman, look at Empress Dowager Feng of Northern Wei or Wu Zetian.

Chunyu Qiong seems to be one of those generals who is known mostly for fucking up his last battle (losing the storage depot to Cao Cao). You've said other generals with similar reputations, like Guanqiu Jian, Ma Su, and Cao Xiu, are better than their 'loser' reputations indicate. Is Chunyu Qiong also better than his reputation, or was he as much of a failure as he's usually perceived to be?

Chunyu Qiong is a good example of your typical Han-era officer/official. He was from a family of some small promenance. Among his generation we can find a few other significant members like the eunuch Chunyu Deng and high minister Chunyu Jia. Qiong is first mentioned as part of Jian Shuo's Western Gardens army in 188 along with Yuan Shao, Cao Cao, and some others. He appears to have remained attached to Yuan Shao and was likely a family client.

I know this isn’t in your usual area but I noticed you mentioned Empress Deng Sui, and I was wondering what your thoughts on her and her regency are?

In my opinion she was the last genuinely effective leader of the Han empire, and the state's downward trajectory began with her death. What criticisms I have seen of her seem petty to me, compared to her great achievements.

Should TecmoKoei ever make Sima Fu playable, would he belong to Wei or belong to Jin? Reading everything about him, I strongly believe he belonged to Wei despite being of Sima clan.

I have no idea what criteria they use to draw the line between the two. I'd do a lot of things differently, myself.

As terribly incompetent as Guan Yu, is, would he have even a slight chance to seize victory during Fan Castle?

Avatar

I think he had a very good chance to capture Fan after the floods isolated Wei's outer armies and damaged the walls. The fact that he was unable to do so is why I consider him an inept commander. He wasn't going to get a better opportunity than that and he was unable to capitalize on it.

Before Deng Ai, had Wei ever succeeded in attacking Shu? Or had Wei ever even launched an invasion on Shu?

Wei attacked Shu in 230 and in 244. In both cases, the forward elements were unable to pierce Shu's defenses and logistical concerns forced the army's retreat.

In 263, Wei's armies were able to break Shu's forward defenses for the first time. They were almost stymied at Jian'ge but Deng Ai was able to circumvent that position and threaten the capital, which capitulated.

CONTEXT: the gaza freedom flotilla coalition aims to bring emergency aid (food, medical supplies, etc) to a starving and besieged gaza. activists and journalists from all over the world (including diaspora palestinians like dylan) will be participating, and they know the risk — in 2010 turkish activists attempting a similar mission had their flagship raided by israeli forces, who murdered 10 activists aboard (9 died on site and another died later from critical injuries).

i’d like to note additionally that i believe this kind of pressure on representatives is especially important considering the 2010 raid was defended by biden. (definitely recommend reading this article — from 2010, mind you — which has him spouting the same bullshit he’s regurgitating to this day.)
