Now it was Dora’s turn to look astonished. She searched Addie’s face, but she saw no hint of a lie or a joke. She really meant it. “Since when?” She asked, then started to laugh, nudging the girl’s shoulder. “Why didn’t you say anything? I’ve been going mad here!” She exclaimed, rolling so that she was on top of Addie, still laughing.

“I don’t know, feels like ages now,” she said with a chuckle, complying happily as the other girl moved on top of her. She moved a hand up to tuck Dora’s hair back behind her ear. “I suppose not that long after our sleepovers began,” she continued. This felt like it was all some elaborate dream, but she didn’t think that she could make up the look of shock on her best friend’s face. “Me? Why didn’t you say anything?”

To see Addie blushing and smiling was like having every wish come true. Dora felt stupid now for keeping this to herself for so long, for even thinking such words would make Addie run away after they’d been friends forever. But the question lingered in her now: what did this mean to their friendship?
“What?” Dora frowned. “What are you saying?” Had she heard wrong, in her lightheaded delirium? Addie fancied her back… no, no way, she would have been able to notice it.

Addie had no idea what this was going to mean in regards to their friendship. The whole reason she hadn’t mentioned anything to Dora in the first place was because she was so sure that even a hint of romantic feelings was going to ruin everything. What if they ended up breaking up? She was Addie’s first friend when she’d been adopted, and she didn’t want that to end just because their fooling around had turned into something greater. She smiled and said, “You heard me; I fancy you, bête.”

Bob raised his eyebrows at her response and casually looked around, un-amused. “Which one’s Holly?”
She nudged her uncle and said, “Alright, stop being a twit. Why don’t we both buy our things here and we can go grab some tea? Or hard tea, if you’d prefer.”
