ICE raids are set to start as soon as tuesday (JAN 21, 2025) in Chigago so make sure you know your rights, your community, and your plan.

  • ICE MUST have a warrant to search/enter any property. they will lie and manipulate you to allow them on the premises but if they arent holding a valid document in their hands they cannot legally do anything
  • They may say something like "our warrant is in the truck," tough shit, have them bring it to you, DO NOT FOLLOW THEM ANYWHERE. Do not leave your property if confronted.
  • If you are taken, say nothing until a lawyer is present. The exception is if there are bystanders present/filming, then you should shout your name and whats happening
  • If you are witnessing a raid in your community, wait to warn others via phone as the cops may be monitoring nearby communications and may use that to select their next targets. Warn by code or word of mouth
  • escape if the opportunity presents itself, but dont be stupid.

Reminder that it has been confirmed by ICE director Thomas Homan stated in his interview that Chicago will be ONE of the cities targeted Tuesday. If you live in a blue sanctuary city, consider either evacuating temporarily, finding a safe place to hide out, or stay home and DO NOT open your door for ICE. Stay strong and stay safe. And remember โ€œLA MIGRAโ€

Research published in the Lancet medical journal estimates that the death toll in Gaza during the first nine months of the Israel-Hamas war was about 40% higher than numbers recorded by the Palestinian territoryโ€™s health ministry. The peer-reviewed statistical analysis was conducted by academics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Yale University and other institutions, using a statistical method called capture-recapture analysis. The researchers sought to assess the death toll from Israelโ€™s air and ground campaign in Gaza between October 2023 and the end of June 2024, estimating 64,260 deaths due to traumatic injury during this period. The study said 59.1% were women, children and people over the age of 65. It did not provide an estimate of Palestinian combatants among the dead. Up to 30 June last year, the health ministry in Gaza reported a death toll of 37,877 in the war, which began on 7 October 2023 after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel in which 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostages. According to Palestinian health officials, a total of more than 46,000 people have been killed in the Gaza war, from a prewar population of about 2.3 million. It has not been possible for international media to independently verify the death toll in Gaza as Israel does not allow foreign journalists into the territory. A senior Israeli official, commenting on the study published on Friday, said Israelโ€™s armed forces went to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties. โ€œNo other army in the world has ever taken such wide-ranging measures,โ€ the official said. โ€œThese include providing advance warning to civilians to evacuate, safe zones and taking any and all measures to prevent harm to civilians. The figures provided in this report do not reflect the situation on the ground.โ€ The Lancet study said the Palestinian health ministryโ€™s capacity for maintaining electronic death records had previously proven reliable, but deteriorated under Israelโ€™s military campaign, which has included raids on hospitals and other healthcare facilities and disruptions to digital communications. Israel accuses Hamas of using hospitals as cover for its operations, which the militant group denies. The study used death toll data from the health ministry, an online survey launched by the ministry for Palestinians to report relativesโ€™ deaths, and social media obituaries to estimate that there were between 55,298 and 78,525 deaths from traumatic injuries in Gaza up to 30 June 2024.
The studyโ€™s best estimate was 64,260 dead, which would mean the health ministry had under-reported the number of deaths to that point by 41%. The estimate represented 2.9% of Gazaโ€™s prewar population, โ€œor approximately one in 35 inhabitantsโ€, the study said. The figure is only for deaths from traumatic injuries and does not include deaths from a lack of healthcare or food, or the thousands believed to be buried under rubble.

The Lancetโ€™s study reveals that the death toll in Gaza is significantly higher than the official numbers, leading to the credence of claims that the death toll is undercounted.

I forget exactly where I saw the initial post asking for volunteers, but on July 10th, I reached out to the listed email. Jane, the organizer, got back to me right away and within an hour I was added in their discord.

Up until this point, I had been maintaining an average 8 ESims myself, so I already had experience checking in on them on a daily basis. The folks there helped me onboard with the spreadsheets for keeping track, and now it's very easy for me to catalog new ones I buy and record daily data usage. The whole process takes me maybe 20-40 minutes a day depending now on how many ESims actually need to be topped off.

Jane has been very up front with lots of the group's information, with frequent announcements about the groups current funds and amounts of daily ESims sent out. She and the others have been super helpful with getting funds to us when needed, and I've almost never had to actually spend any of my own money for any of this.

In the time that I've been volunteering, they figured out how to run a Business account with the Nomad ESim company. Which means that now and then they can just send 15 or so ESims my way, and I just catalog them and send the QRcodes towards Mirna and the Connecting Gaza folks. No more wasting time with the purchasing process, while getting a bit of a bulk discount on top of that.

We also share updates on whatever brand of ESims are most needed. When folks on the ground tell us that one network doesn't seem reliable, we are able to switch over for a while until either the networking issue is fixed, or we all pressure customer service enough to replace them for us.

There's also lots of complaining about new UI updates an general website bugs. There's surprisingly a lot of them and it's good to know other folks are getting info from customer service when things go wrong.

In August they made a meme channel

Anyways....

Lets get into some stats for myself. In 2 months (July 10- Sept12) I have:

Send off 171 ESims

Maintained around 60 active ones

Topped up these active ESims 139 times

Spend over $6400 donated dollars

I have multiple power users who have burned through close to 100GB. 2 of them have broken 200GB. These are most likely being used as hot spots.

Why am I sharing all of this? Mostly to show how easy it has been to make a marginal difference. I have helped at least 60 people stay connected with the outside world in just 2 months. Probably more if we assume some of the power users becoming hotspots for other folks. This is 20-40 minutes of my time a day, and I honestly regret not signing up to do this sooner.

I was specifically limiting myself to this workload because I wanted to test the waters. Those stats was me specifically not wanting to push myself and see what impact a normal person could make with 20 minutes a day. At this point I think I will be taking more advantage of Nomad's Tuesday discounts to really bulk up my numbers. It's pretty easy to buy 15 or so every Tuesday, and then send em over.

If you would like to join us in this endeavor, please reach out to Jane at cripsforesimsforgaza(at)gmail

We are specifically looking for people in European time zones, since a lot of us are in the Americas and that's quite a difference between us and Gaza. If not, that's no problem!

If you can't participate, that's totally fine, but please donate what you can! Folks like you are the ones who keep us going!

I hope this information has been useful in some way. Like I said, I wish I had heard about this group sooner, with how easy it has been to do. I can track my direct impact of what my daily time is doing for folks, and seeing the data be used up a little bit more day by day gives me hope for everyone in Gaza. Thank you for your time.

a list of the vetted fundraisers i got on my askbox, listed in alphabetical order. consider donating or reblogging their campaigns if youโ€™re not able to

This holiday season, please consider supporting Dahnoun Mutual Aidโ€™s campaign to provide winter clothes and blankets in Gaza. Dahnoun is a Gazawi-run grassroots initiative that has been providing thousands of people in multiple areas of Gaza with water, food, baby milk, diapers, tents, and other supplies since July. With your donations, they are able to buy blankets and clothes in bulk at a reduced price and give them out at no cost to people sheltering in displacement camps. Their Chuffed campaign is linked above, and you can find their Venmo and Paypal in addition to documentation of the past several monthsโ€™ aid initiatives on Instagram. The blankets and clothes fundraiser is detailed in a recent post: instagram.com/dahnounmutualaid

"Anyone making a new campaign, please consider using chuffed, since gofundme has been freezing so many campaigns, they are unreliable and they have their own agenda and theyโ€™re anti-Palestinian, and even host campaigns for the IOF."

"My friend Tania says that people who have a bank account & can use fundraising websites could create a campaign for themselves through fund a hope. This would make things much easier."

Just some options to consider.

a really great organization that i don't see any posts about here is HEAL palestine. it was founded by steve sosebee, who was a founding president of the PCRF before leaving in late 2023 to refocus his efforts on heal palestine to better meet the needs of palestinians impacted by the genocide. the organization provides palestinians in gaza with food, clean water, shelters, "makeshift classrooms," and even medical evacuation for some children when it's possible--their services are pretty wide.

you can donate here if you would like to send a tax-deductible donation to an organization. also, i don't think any evacuations are possible right now, but if you're in the united states and you'd like to welcome medically evacuated children in the future, i highly recommend signing up for their newsletter or following them on social media so you can stay updated in case any children evacuated by HEAL come to your area for treatment. welcoming these kids at the airport is a really moving way to provide them with moral support, entirely for free.

if it's okay to add-

Rami Kashou, a Palestinian designer (originally made famous on Project Runway) has an ongoing deal on his website right now, where 100% of the proceeds on certain items will go to HEAL Palestine!

If you have the available funds to make a larger donation, then I think this could be a great option as you would also be supporting Palestinian artists

please think of the disabled people of gaza. please think of the diabetic people of gaza. please think of the neurodivergent people of gaza. please think of those whose lives are relying on medicine that has either stopped coming in due to the blockade, or is available in such scarcity that its price has skyrocketed.

we're approaching winter. on top of the challenge of securing waterproof tents and sufficiently warm clothing, some diabetic people in gaza have stopped taking their insulin as they can no longer afford it. those who are able to acquire it for now know every shot may be their last.

mohammed @ahmed0khalil, only 19, has been injured with shrapnel in his leg.

his father is diabetic.

one of his younger siblings is blind, and another is autistic.

imagine that kind of pressure during a genocide.

the least we can do is shoulder some of the financial burden. don't forget about the disabled people of gaza.

Please look at little Hamoud, and his specimen of a cat in Al Zawaydah. Such floof.

Hamoud and many other Palestinian children like him benefit greatly from Gaza Soup Kitchen. Please consider sharing and donating to help the people of Palestine in northern Gaza!

The Gaza Soup Kitchen is run by Hani Almadhoun and his sisters, mother, father, and surviving brother. Hani is a Palestinian-American and the former director of philanthropy at UNRWA USA. Their work has recently been covered by NPR, PBS, NBC News, The Washington Post, CBC, and more news outlets. Beyond the soup kitchen serving thousands of people daily, the Almadhoun family has also organized the resources for a makeshift medical clinic and a makeshift school.

Whether or not you're in a position to donate, I really recommend boosting the Gaza Soup Kitchen and following gazasoupkitchen on Instagram (and you or your relatives could also follow Hani's Facebook page). Hani puts a lot of professional care into keeping the focus on the joy and resilience of Palestinian families even as they struggleโ€”like little Hamoud and his cat! If you've had to step away from witnessing violent photos on social media for mental health reasons, then following gazasoupkitchen could be a good way to show your support.

There is nobody who actually believes 90-ghost is a scammer. as far as I remember heโ€™s been on here for years how fucking evil can people be to defame someone who not only has lived under genocide but also has made immeasurable efforts to help other people throughout everything heโ€™s been through. Anyone claiming otherwise is doing so intentionally

Everyone knows there has been an article written about him, when he was interviewed while in Gaza, and his family has been on the news before for tragic reasons. A significant portion of the users who have been advocating for him have followed him since November or December of 2023, and he posted videos and pictures frequently of his living conditions, including his face in the videos. It's not a matter of lack of knowledge, and even if it was there's no reason to be pursuing a 'guilty until innocent' perspective against him without it being very clearly racially motivated. Tumblr has thoroughly dehumanized the Palestinian users on this website and made the verbal abuse and harassment of genocide survivors an actual legitimate activity this website's users will partake in. I'm not sure this is something you could've said about Tumblr 2 years ago.

I will remember this as the website that tried to harass a Palestinian genocide survivor off the platform with false, baseless accusations.
