I haven't decided on which look I like on the birds better. Might just leave them both in there like this, not sure yet. I always pictured them being gold for some reason but the pink is growing on me.
I’ve been asked many times about my professions lately, and I find it quite difficult to explain what I do.
I relate to this so hard.
Half the time I say, "I'm an animator", and the response is something like,
"Anime? My son loves anime!"
I wanted to animate this little birdie I found on Sketchfab. I'm going to put a few of them on the roof of my latest VR Chat room in the next update. model by Łukasz Paraszka https://skfb.ly/6QVSG
It's done! Just did the Quest optimization, so Quest users can jump in now too! 😁
The mystical glowing thing at the center gently animates like it’s breathing. It has two patterns you can choose from, “square breathing”, and “4,7,8″, which are common breathing techniques for meditation. The idea being, you can sit, watch the pretty glowing thing, and breathe with it, to meditate and relax.
Or, as the description dramatically states, “Breathe with the star to find your inner peace.”
I designed this as a fairly lightweight home world for myself, that should load quickly, so it's pretty simple. Just a heavenly place to relax before and after VR adventures. Namaste 😊💗
I’m kitbashing a simple meditation space for VR chat. It has a pretty glowing thing at it’s center that expands and contracts in a gentle rhythm you can time your breathing to. I’ll post more video and some VR in-person looks at it as I go. original temple model credits: "INDIAN FORT" (https://skfb.ly/o9Zvu) by Harex-Studio is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/).
This is what I've been up to in Unity and VR land lately:
Hiya! What language do you mainly code in? Is it just C#? Have a nice day!
Yep, I've really settled into C# as my favorite. I started with Python, so I still know it and have use for it now and then, usually for work related stuff. But I do all my personal projects in C#
What are the odds that you'll make more worlds and avatars with the aesthetic of the Lounge?
Hey, I'd like to make more, thanks for letting me know you are interested, that's really encouraging. I got busy for awhile, and then had trouble finding the motivation to get back to it, since these projects take so long.
Sorry, it's a long answer. The TLDR is, I don't know. :/
But I really enjoyed the project and I do miss working on things like that. So I feel like eventually I will bust through the creative block and get back to it.
Thanks for asking :)
Would it be possible to add an option to the quest compatible Classy Criminal avatar where it keeps a cigarette in its "mouth"
Sorry I forgot to answer this when I first saw it. Yeah that sounds do-able, I honestly haven't worked on the project in awhile now, I've been busy with other things. But if I get around to doing another update, I will remember to add this ^_^
hey emily! i came across your Classy Criminal's Lounge on VRChat and holy crap.. its amazing. the quest compatible avatar with the blue and red cubist theme is amazing. it's inspired me to create my own avatar inspired by your cubist man. i was thinking to make something similar but female. would you be able to guide my on how you made the form or if you have any tips! im totally new to 3d software but this made me want to learn.. seeing its potentional. your stuff is amazing!!
Oh wow, thank you! I guess as far as learning 3d, you'll have to learn blender, which is something I can't teach you in a Tumblr text message, but there are tons of tutorials on youtube (I don't have a favorite series to recommend, I just bounced around searching random ones).
As far as the design style, look up examples of "low poly" designs and also, I took alot of inspiration from how people simplify the human form in life drawing. There is a book called "life drawing, for what it's worth", and another called "how to draw the marvel way". They have really good pictures of how to create a human form out of simple elegant shapes. You probably can just Google image search those, they have been around for like 40+ years so they are probably thoroughly leaked online.
also, I put the Classy Criminal model on sketchfab for free if you want to use him as a starting point https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/low-poly-mobster-classy-criminal-model-af325ebd03594b529e7025a7672e0fda

Finally adding more actual animations to the mix. Just made her an idle clip, and her new antenna dynamics add a nice overlap for free.
The bug is no longer cubes.
I'm learning how to switch between moving the legs with code and animation curves.
This is a test where I have her walking procedurally, and then when she reaches a trigger, it uses an animation clip to make her do the laying down pose.
More procedural walky legs. I'm trying to make a him like a little pill bug, with an articulated shell. I'm aware his huge head makes him look like he should fall on his face, he's still very much a WIP
He kind of has a mind of his own. I wrote a C# wander script that makes him choose random destinations at random intervals of time.
Reblogging to show this chicken AI I wrote and keep finding uses for. The procedurally animated critter I'm currently working on is using the same code.
He has a chicken brain 🐔
update on the procedural walking critter. I put the scripts and animations that I made for the chickens in my chicken gun project on this guy (so he can wander on his own now instead of me dragging him around with my mouse.
Also he has more legs now. And eyes.
He doesn’t look like much yet, but this is the start of me making a proceedurally animated critter. So far, I have figured out how to make the “feet” to stay under it (though they drag behind instead of leading, but I’m still working on it), and they react to the changing ground height. My brother and I are collaborating on another VR Chat room, and we are planning to add a little interactive alien bug creature, like a little pet for the player (I am calling him the bug bunny for now)
I have been dying to try out this procedural animation tutorial ever since I started learing Unity scripting, and I think this is the perfect application. I am going to figure it out in vanilla C# first, and then, hopefully, I will be able to recreate it in U# so it will work in VR chat.
