Making an urgent new post for Feras because I found out they can't get funds out of GFM fast enough to address their needs for water so please donate to their campaign via

Feras is a good friend of my friend's Abby, Olivia, and their mom Hope.

They're trying to raise funds to get a water filtration device/system for their community. The community is dangerously/near-LETHALLY low on water. Please send even the minimum amount donation. It adds up and it's so urgent.

Just got off a video call with Feras.

Good news. His camp was delivered a small delivery of water so they are able to drink a bit to tide them over til we can raise enough for filtration and I'm crying happy tears because I was worried they'd die of dehydration. They still need a lot for the filtration and then Feras told me on the phone today that he wants to go to school in Egypt when he can. He said school starts in 9 months and he has 6 months til registration is needed. He's made it a long term goal to be able to make that happen so I'll likely be fundraising alongside friends for him long term.

I could hear the IOF drones in the background. He's staying so hopeful and I don't want to ever dash that hope. He's the most caring human I've met, when he heard that I have chronic fatigue and had to go because I was crashing hard, he immediately insisted on me sleeping and was so so kind and protective. He's so open and honest and calls me and Abby and Olivia sisters and we love him so dearly. It breaks my heart how much he's lost and how much he loves despite this.

Yes this counts! This goes for anyone who even just doesnt speak in certain circumstances, especially (medical) care, but it's a problem nonverbal people face all the time! As soon as you arent talking yourself, people stop talking to you, and instead at best talk about you.

As long as you havent expressed some way that you prefer to not be addressed directly, that should be standard practice for everyone. It's simple things like "I'm going to be doing x thing now" (injections, moving clothes, ...) but also explaining their conditions and treatment options to them directly.

Many of my doctors are very much not the best about this either and it sucks. I cant explain how dehumanizing it feels to be sitting in an appointment and get diagnosed with a life changing condition that might cut the function of one of my organs short by many many years and the doctor is speaking to my carer about it instead of me. Telling her what the treatment options are, instead of me (but hey at least my dentist has been getting better about it)
