"One of the first images released from NASA's Webb telescope was the Southern Ring Nebula. Two stars were captured within it: 1) the dying star that created the nebula by blowing off its layers, and 2) a companion that orbits it.
In which the Doctor is slowly breaking herself apart, and Yaz picks up the pieces."

“A wise person once said to me, goodbyes only hurt because what came before was so special. Oh, and it's been so special.” 🌈 🌏✨
Me, reading my scraps of fics in my notes app: oh, that’s good, I really like that. Someone should finish that.
I really love that they allowed Yaz’s departure from the Doctor to be tragic without any tragedy happening except the two parting. It was stripped down to the bare essentials, which was two people who loved each deeply having to go their separate ways.
Yaz is safe, she is at home, she left with fond and loving words and of her own choice, and she has a support base ready and waiting for her, as well as means to continue having adventures. Her memories weren’t wiped, no one she loved died, and she is in the right time and place. And she hasn’t been left alone without someone to share those experiences with.
As far as leaving the Doctor can go, (which all companions must do) this is pretty much as good as it will get.
But it is still so, so tragic.
Because Yaz loved the Doctor, she loved that life and she loved the Doctor and she had to walk away. And now she has to deal with what comes next. And she knows she will be alright, but here and now her heart is just breaking.
And I like that this parting of ways was comparatively calm and peaceful, because it allows the tragedy of having to part to stand on its own. Especially as Yaz was in love with the Doctor, and the Doctor was in love with her back, I’m certain.
