Ah, knights, one of my favorite things! Some of you may remember a sneak peek I posted a few months ago about this project. A year or so ago I was invited to participate in an idea: join together with several other illustrators and paint some knights.
I don’t usually do this, but for this illustration I decided to make a little model so I could make my own reference. It was originally going to be a knight in the arms of a statue, but the statue quickly changed into a giant woman. It’s called Battlefront Pietà.
The project grew and became more ambitious and fantastic until it developed into something amazing. 1001 Knights was born. As the project grew I became increasingly impressed with the hard work and dedication put forth by Kevin Jay Stanton and Annie Stoll, the creators of 1001 Knights. The product of their hard work, as well as participation from fantastic artists from around the world, is a gorgeous three book set now live on Kickstarter.
The books have about 250+ pages each and are full of pieces focusing on the ideas of wisdom, fellowship, and courage.
These are the sketches for my contribution to the project. I hope to be able to show you more of it soon! I am thrilled to be a small part of this.
