the way i write drafts is so funny bc i write like an outline and then skip around finishing each part out. and sometimes there’ll be a fragment i miss when i publish it. so theres just like this part of my reply thats 50% finished and 100% nonsense until i notice and go back to fix it gfhkg

“Connie!” Pearl exclaimed happily, happy to see her pupil again. It’d been far too long with everything that was happening lately. Far from being bothered by her question, Pearl seemed to light up at the request.
“You want to learn more about the Crystal Gems?” For Pearl, a ton of her friends might as well just have come back from the dead. “Goodness, I don’t know where to start…well, in terms of diversity, you have to remember that Gems come from all over the galaxy, not just one planet. You can only make so many types of Gems on any given planet. You can’t make Rubies on Epsilon V, for example…nor any type of Obsidian other than Snowflake.”
“Actually, come to think of it, the types of Gems Pink Diamond created on Earth aren’t anywhere near as diverse as the organic life on this planet.”
“Ah, but I’m getting off-topic! You wanted to know more about the Gems.” Who should she start with though? Well, while on the subject of the Gems of Epsilon V…
“Well, many Gems took on different roles once they joined the Crystal Gems. That is, different than what they did before. I’m certainly a prime example of that but there are many more. Bismuth used to make structures for the higher class Gems, but she decided to make weapons for the rebellion. Little Larimar used to make ice sculptures for the Diamonds, but when she joined the cause she decided to focus on crafting forts and other structures in the colder parts of Earth. She was part of some very important battles, in terms of preparation.”
“Oh!! Kiiinda like how hanging out with you guys went from introverted book-nerd to... sword-fighting, world-saving, friend-having! ... book-nerd. That part’s the same.”
“Aanyway. I think I know what that’s like. Having this... path set in front of you since... before you can even remember. It seems like there’s no way out...”
“B-but then St- then the Crystal Gems came along, and they change everything — for me, for all of us.”
“Hey wait!! Do you have any cool war stories? You know, like, climactic battles, heroic last stands, triumphant victories! Larimar, Bismuth, all these Quartzes... you guys must’ve been legends! I’m sure seeing all your old friends brings back all sorts of memories.”

“Connie~” Pearl decided to visit her former pupil for a change, rather than wait for her to come to the temple. It was meant to be a holiday surprise, but of course she still had to call ahead. She wasn’t a barbarian.
In her arms, she held a neatly wrapped, green package with a bright red bow around it. Those did seem to be the traditional colors of the season, after all. After knocking once, she stood at the front door and waited patiently.
“Pearl, hey! Merry Christmas!” She greeted Pearl excitedly, and before the gem had a chance to respond, Connie jumped to wrap her in an embrace. She ushered Pearl inside and quickly shut the door on the cold winter air.
“Do you like the deco?” She motioned proudly towards the living room, generously adorned in all manner of tinsel and ornaments. Doug and Connie adored the holidays and would never pass up a chance to overindulge.
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”
