I don't trust anyone who hasn't acknowledged their capacity for evil.

"I'm just a smol bean uwu" No sir, what you are is someone who is so habituated to thinking of yourself as innocent that you will continue to do so even when you're guilty.

Recently I've heard a number of Zionists say things to the effect of "everyone gets an ethnostate but us". Well, that's verbatim a white nationalist argument. I was arguing neo-Nazis saying that shit on reddit ten years ago. And the argument is not any more convincing when Zionists make it.

it’s funny because all the ethnonationalists say this. Hindutva people say this—-they’re the only ones who are criticized! Zionists say this—-they’re the only ones who are criticized! White American racial nationalists say this—-obviously, there’s a conspiracy against them, they’re the only ones who are critiqued!

And they have seperate forums—-ones where they can bond with each other over how all of them are the ‘only ones’ who go through this, and another one where they make fun of the others, and a third that’s supposed to be their reasonable bait

In the absence of a clear and obvious angle to attack Bushnell’s protest, most likely due to his status as a serviceman that would make outright insulting him or suppressing the news itself scandalous, discussions on Western shores have now taken on the familiar framing of mental illness. In Time Magazine’s write-up of Bushnell’s death, the article finishes with a link to the suicide hotline, and asks readers to contact mental health providers if they are experiencing a “crisis.” Mark Joseph Stern, a writer at Slate, seemingly unasked, also wrote on Twitter/X:
“I strongly oppose valorizing any form of suicide as a noble, principled, or legitimate form of political protest. People suffering mental illness deserve empathy and respect, but it is wildly irresponsible to praise them for using a political justification to take their own life.”
Conviction does not exist to the American. To be willing to die in a selfless act for what they believe in only exists for those outside America's sphere of influence. Many will recall reporting on those who self-immolated in protest in Iran and in Russia for instance where this sort of approach, unwilling to engage with the root of its cause, would not even be entertained, let alone written and published with sincerity. The Arab Spring began with a self-immolation. The self-immolation of Buddhist monks in protest of South Vietnam’s persecution became defining images of the war and its corruption. Within America’s walls however, there is a belief, unspoken and ingrained from birth, that democracy allows for everyone’s voices to be heard and that its representatives are inherently inclined to respond to the people and their widespread wishes.
Desperation at inaction or complicity in terror and atrocity need not apply. Everyone incensed by their government to such an extent must simply have something wrong with them. To be able to go about one’s day knowing that children are screaming from the hunger that is eating their insides and that pregnant women are eating bread made from animal feed, and that the United States is supporting Israel’s creation of this famine, is apparently the real sign of well-adjustment.

The New York Times pulled a high-profile episode of its podcast “The Daily” about sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas on October 7 amid a furious internal debate about the strength of the paper’s original reporting on the subject, Times newsroom sources told The Intercept. The episode had been scheduled for January 9 and was based on a prominent article led by Pulitzer Prize-winner Jeffrey Gettleman, claiming that Hamas had systematically used sexual violence as a weapon of war.

in light of one of the authors of this article being investigated for liking tweets calling for gaza to be turned into a slaughterhouse (which were used in the icj case as evidence of genocidal intent) and liking since disproved tweets about 40 beheaded babies, id like to remind people that the new york times front page october 7 article is being scrutinized for lack of evidence. at a recent talk at columbia university, gettleman, the main author of this article, backtracked heavily on his original claims, implied he was merely gathering stories rather than evidence. gettleman has previously run stories with fabricated quotes while reporting on other conflicts

People in Gaza have been saying this would happen since the very start, as soon as the occupation started corralling everyone into the southern part of the strip they said this would happen. We watched it happen as the “safe” zones grew smaller and smaller and every time Rafah was targeted by air strikes even before this. And no one who could actually stop this lifted a finger. It’s been 129 days.

Palestine has hope. Say it with me. Palestine has hope. Palestine has hope. Shit like this has happened in the past, and there have always been survivors to tell the tale. Palestine has hope. Palestine has hope. It’s true.

Fucking hate you liberal ass zionists you're all dehumanizing pieces of shit. I don't care about any of your fucking definitions I hope you all grow a conscious and feel deeply ashamed of yourselves one day. You people who point out the ~reasonability~ of zionism are the reason why my people suffer and continue to suffer. Do us a favor and shut the fuck up for once in your pathetic, idiotic lives.

“as a palestinian, i am an expert on zionism because it is practiced on my body”

it doesn’t matter how you personally define zionism in your head. it doesn’t matter what zionism means to you specifically. zionism as an ideology has done mountains of damage and is dehumanising and oppressive no matter which way you look at it. the only zionism that matters in this conversation is the one palestinians are being subjected to—the one seeking to justify their genocide.

highly suggest everyone watch that video i linked. mohammed el-kurd lays out what zionism means in the relevant context really well.

🏳️‍⚧️ Please please please don't scroll past this, I'm still severely struggling and I'm desperate. Sorry for my lack of activity lately but I'm now unemployed, I haven't gotten a single call back from any of the jobs I've applied for, and my partner and I are still homeless. I haven't been able to afford my meds or any groceries to supplement what we get from the food pantry and soup kitchen in months, now. 🏳️‍⚧️

Help a trans lesbian and her trans disabled partner survive. $asheramalcha is my c.a., @itscosmo444 is my partner's v.m.

please do not tag this post, I don't have access to a computer except using public ones at the library because I haven't even been able to charge my phone in weeks. I don't want to have to keep remaking these posts, but I'm scared and I'm no longer optimistic about our situation ⚠

It's very possible that the only way to ensure you don't become a conservative old person is to keep checking whether you're wrong. Every time. Genuinely mull over the opposing viewpoint even and especially when it's uncomfortable. You absolutely cannot a) consider yourself safely incapable of terrible principles because you're a good person, or b) treat a your disgust reaction to something as a moral truth. You can't get comfortable. Tiring! But you'd rather be tired and choose the right path, you know?

MEDIA ADVISORY

NEW: COVID19 variant of interest JN.1

Geneva, 19 December 2023 -- Due to its rapidly increasing spread, WHO is classifying the variant JN.1 as a separate variant of interest (VOl) from the parent lineage BA.2.86. It was previously classified as VOl as part of BA.2.86 sublineages.

WHO advises people to take measures to prevent infections and severe disease using all available tools. These include:

-Wear a mask when in crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated areas, and keep a safe distance from others, as feasible

-Improve ventilation

-Practise respiratory etiquette - covering coughs and sneezes

-Clean your hands regularly

-Stay up to date with vaccinations against COVID-19 and influenza, especially if you are at high risk for severe disease

-Stay home if you are sick

-Get tested if you have symptoms, or if you might have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 or influenza

For health workers and health facilities, WHO advises:

-Universal masking in health facilities, as well as appropriate masking, respirators and other PPE for health workers caring for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients.

-Improve ventilation in health facilities

The WHO just advised universal masking in health facilities. This is a big change and should be front-page news everywhere! Bring it to the attention of everyone!
