my dad is obsessed with this guy’s youtube channel. there’s always a different pokemon from max’s husband’s plush collection in the background and my dad who knows nothing about pokemon will ask me “who’s his friend this time? who’s this character?” it’s delightful

Seeing this post on my dash with my comment was a warm surprise. I reblogged this with that comment in late 2021. My dad passed in the summer of 2022, and we would watch the latest Tasting History releases together from his hospital bed. The last one we watched together was the history of tacos, I think.

This past year when Max was on tour with the Tasting History cookbook, I brought the copy I’d preordered just before Dad went to the hospital. I told Max how much we’d enjoyed watching his show together over the past few years, and I had him sign the book not to my name, but my dad’s. I’m still a regular watcher and it always makes me think of him.

This week he had Palkia, who has space powers, because he was talking about food and space travel.
