The Bear and the Nightingale - Katherine Arden
A frosty fairy tale based on Russian folklore.
Vasya Petrovna can see things most others can't: the domovoi in the stove, the vazila in the stable, the rusalka in the pond. The villagers whisper that she is a witch, but when an ancient evil awakens in the forest, a witch is the only thing that might save them.
The wintery imagery is so vivid in this book. Even though there are magical beings involved in the severe weather, it felt a lot like a man-vs-nature story as I was reading it because the winter itself seems alive and an entity of its own. The story unfolds slowly and deeply, so by the end of the book I felt like I was only just getting started with these characters and this mythos, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the trilogy!
Winternight trilogy: The Bear and the Nightingale | The Girl in the Tower | The Winter of the Witch
Couldn't find an image that has all 3 books but would definitely recommend the full trilogy for this one, honestly each book kept getting better and better.

Book recs: alien intelligences
Intelligent spiders, octupi, plants, bacteria, and even entire oceans, intelligence without sentience, extra terrestrials and strange intelligences evolved right here on Earth - alien minds can take many forms. Allow me to share with you some books featuring the most alien and fascinating ones.
Previous book rec posts:
Really cool fantasy worldbuilding, really cool sci-fi worldbuilding, dark sapphic romances, mermaid books, vampire books, many worlds: portal fantasies, many worlds: alternate timelines, robots and artificial intelligences, post- and transhumanism
For more details on the books, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites. And as always, feel free to share your own recs in the notes!

NOW STREAMING! Watch Masters of the Universe: Revolution today! Or catch up on Revelations, and watch this, because it's epic! Side note: I find this design of Skeletor with the one eye covered so incredibly hot. Give me that figure ASAP. At war with my love for this look on Evil-Lyn.

People, if you have not been watching Scavengers Reign; I cannot recommend it enough. I just love this so much. It's like one of those things you want to go to the highest mountain and scream praises about.
I've not been this enamored with something that feels so targeted to my tastes, to where I almost feel like it's some kind of love letter after my heart, since... Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña's Uncanny X-Force run. ❤❤❤
(Oh, I should probably include Denis Villeneuve's Dune, too)
