Lmao literally women should be allowed to have female only spaces just because, and not just because of safeguarding from males. Women want to go to a women only gym? A women only club? A women only knitting circle? A women only concert, yoga class, workshop, etc? They should be allowed to without MALES pitching a fucking fit about it and demanding “inclusion.” Women should be allowed to seek out and use female only spaces because that’s our fucking right in this male centered, male dominated, male obsessed society. When the skeleton was presumed male people were not up in arms about how he could have been a different "gender identity", but the moment the skeleton is female suddenly we're very concerned with her "gender". This isn't an accident, it is sexism. Famous historical women keep having their "gender Identity" brought into question because of sexism, plain and simple.

We do not question the gender identity of male ice age mummies or ancient leaders like Nebuchadnezzar or historical figures like Michelangelo because they are male and therefore being important and of historical note is expected of them in our patriarchal society.

To be a female of historic note is to break the rules since women aren't expected to have any real value or power. So they say "we must not assume anyone who has value or power historically is a woman, she must be some secret other thing, or else we might have to consider women as important".

After reading The Dawn of Everything I just genuinely can't read these types of articles in good faith because I recognize how deeply biased our telling of history is based on our present culture and, more than we like to admit, politics. Even The Dawn of Everything is biased, but at least I feel it attempts to be honest about that fact.

All of that to say, I am glad we are looking into the sex of these remains, but disappointed that the realization that female remains are significant in some way means we must bend ourselves backwards trying to avoid saying women are of historical note lest we admit women are just as human and just as important as men.

The moment a woman reaches societal importance her womanhood is ripped away from her. I hate it here.
