Took a vacation and decided that it was finally time to cut some ties. Both past and current ones. Begging for some sort of attention is not me and these past two weeks, I’ve been doing exactly this so now it’s time I finally put an end to it. Life is difficult sometimes

I’m at work so much that people don’t know what my normal hours are😅

hopefully this isn’t a bother, but i was wondering if your personal ships were still open?

Dang. Sorry they’re not. They were open years ago but not anymore😅

Worked a 137 hours from 9/16-9/30 and only received $1615 as take home. My rent cost $1650 and my company still decides that that is livable wages.

You know your living situation is trash when you would rather be at work than at home

Imagine going to Hawaii and taking pictures with your family on a site where hundreds lost their lives and homes. If you’re going to be fucking disrespectful, stay your asses home.

I’m at the point in my life again where I wanna just pack everything up and leave. Like I know I’d be doing better somewhere else and I need to get to that somewhere else

Phantom Pain (Shanks x GN!reader)

👑 CW: angst, hurt/comfort, thoughts of limb loss, phantom pain

👑 Brief description: late at night reader finds Shanks in the kitchen unable to sleep from a phantom pain in the arm he’s lost years ago

Enjoy!

In the middle of the night, you wake up. Something wakes you up.

You lie as if thrown ashore, your head half-dipped in sleep still washing over your mind in a low tide. Your senses are heightened, however, drowsy conscious having given reign to instinct.

You strain your ears. No screams, no battle cries, no rowdy, drunken shouts. No clash of swords, no bullets flying into wood and flesh. So, nothing either dangerous or urgent. What, then?

It could‘ve been a single sound that died as soon as it woke you, a simple balance. But you know better, and you know that this isn’t the reason.

Not without difficulty, you push yourself up on your elbows. You sway, hit with a wave of sleep intent on drowning you in unconsciousness; how dare something pull you from its murky depths.

You roll over the edge of the bed and hit the floor with a shoulder and a pained oof. So much for trying to clear your head faster.

From that position you turn your head towards the door to see light coming from the gap between the exit and the floor. Not bright, quite dim, though still a light peering in as if it was what rose you from your slumber, sheepish in its urgency but firm in its concern, calling gently for you to come resolve the problem you are yet to learn of; come and turn the light off, let it sleep again.

Your shoulder throbs; your head aches with demand for rest. You ignore them both and stand up. Move for the door and the light under it like an ship drawn by the beam of a lighthouse.

The door creakes under the weight you push onto its knob. In your current state you forget to mind the still silence of the night.

As it turns out, the light is coming from the kitchen, the door to which has been left ajar. One might have thought at first that was quite mindless and thoughtless, as for the ship is filled with people docking at the harbour of the night for rest. However, it has been meant as something opposite, as thus no creak will rise if the one in the kitchen decides to join his crewmates.

Your bare feet make no sound as you move along the corridor, a palm on the wall for support. Nothing this night makes a sound, the world completely devoid of a major sense. This proves that something else indeed has woken you up. A sixth sense. A seventh, perhaps, even.

Your hand rests on the doorframe and you peer inside.

“Ah, hello, angel. What’re you doing up so late?“

You squint. Droplets of sleep fall from your lashes and disappear between the creaks of wood under your feet. A rasp of a voice and a red head of hair like bright flags on a beach warning you of a storm already raging.

As your eyes adjust to the light, the room tells you more than the person in front of you would. A bottle squeezed in a white-knuckled grip; a face, pale and untrimmed of its stubble; a smile like a string pulled tight, a pop resonating through your mind the longer you look at it, about to snap.

You don‘t give Shanks an answer; you simply take an unoccupied chair, put it down behind his own, rest the weight of your body on it and your temple on Shank’s shoulder.

His back is tight, his neck also, his whole body. Also a string ready to snap. Your nose finds a point of bare skin above the collar of his shirt and presses gently in. Perhaps, its cold will distract his body from the pain.

Shanks starts to shiver. You exhale, close your eyes and move your head to now press your forehead to the same point.

Your shoulder throbs. You wonder if the ache you feel is his or yours. You wonder how often it hurts, the arm that’s no longer there. How often and how much. For how much longer will it?

“Thank you, angel. Sorry I woke you up.”

It’s ok, your body answers for you as you sink under the surface of unconsciousness.

The redhead pirates find you in the morning, both asleep at the kitchen table, a bottle in Shanks’ hand, half-full.
