Reminders for the Anxious/Depressed Creatives

  • You’re more than what you make.
  • Your productivity does not determine your value.
  • It’s okay to do nothing sometimes.
  • Not everything you do has to result in a product.
  • Not everything you make has to be important, significant, or even good.
  • You can make things just for yourself.
  • You can keep secrets for yourself, whether it’s not posting some of your projects or not sharing your techniques.
  • You’re allowed to say no.
  • You’re allowed to rest.

2023 Updates:

  • Inspiration doesn’t cure burnout. Rest cures burnout.
  • People will wait for you; take your time and come back when you are ready.
  • It’s okay to scrap projects that no longer excite you, even if other people like them.
  • It’s delightful and excellent to be openly proud of your work.
  • Afford yourself the same gentleness that you would afford another creative - negative self-talk is counterproductive and frankly cruel.
  • Self-indulgent creations are satisfying to others as well; don’t apologize for your own pleasure.
  • Actually, don’t apologize for your work at all.

so embarrassing when i forget im checking someone's blog and i start scrolling through and liking and reblogging shit as if it's just my dash. it feels like wandering into someone else's apartment and not noticing and making myself lunch

reblog if i can wander into your apartment (blog) and make myself lunch (like and reblog as if it's my dash)

just casually reading the scene in catching fire right after gale is whipped and katniss's mom is tending to his wounds. katniss is freaking out, yelling obscenities at her mother for not giving gale more pain medication. eventually, it has to get so bad that peeta and haymitch have to carry her out. in the end, katniss can not handle seeing gale in so much pain.

and peeta sees it. and i can't help but think that he solidifies this moment as one where he felt like katniss obviously loved gale. maybe thought that katniss loved gale more than him. so here katniss was, in a place without cameras, demonstrating her clear care for gale and his wellbeing. and that was all peeta wanted.

because while katniss did freak out when peeta was taken by the capitol doctors, it was in front of the cameras and peeta is always left with a little doubt about whether her actions were genuine.

and although the readers get a peek into katniss's mind and can clearly see the moments that she is acting for the camera and the times she isn't, peeta doesn't. we see the many different ways that katniss loves peeta (even before katniss realizes it herself), but peeta doesn't. so, because all of their actions have been tainted by the uncertainty of performance, peeta genuinely doesn't feel like katniss loves him that way.

and then peeta comes back to district thirteen. and after he gets over seeing katniss as a mutt, the question of if katniss's feelings were real is still central. and as he is trying to work through this, he must still compare his situation with gale. i would. that when gale was hurt, katniss stayed by his side the entire time, even sleeping next to him out of her concern. in comparison, katniss can't even stay in the same room with peeta, not that he particularly wants her to at first.

and i am sure that is so confusing when everyone keeps telling him how much she cares for him. because, now that the cameras are gone, where is katniss?

but little did peeta know that katniss's absense was not because of apathy. no, far from it. it was because of pain.

when katniss saw gale in pain, she couldn't handle to see his pain.but when katniss saw peeta, stripped of his identity and forgetting his love for her, she couldn't handle her pain.

it was too much. she couldn't give into it because she knew that she would truly fall apart just like finnick said. and that each time she looked at peeta, her heart would break more and more, threatening to undo her. because with peeta gone, her world was demolished; her heart ripped into a million pieces.

so, sometimes i just think about poor peeta, seriously conflicted that katniss isn't there beside him as he sorts out his memories about a girl who everyone said loved him.

and sometimes i think about how unaware he was that katniss, whether she was a room or hundreds of miles away, was desperately trying to hold herself together. hold herself together enough to kill snow and then die because what else does she have to live for? and what a difficult task that is when her entire world was crumbling alongside her broken heart.

and i wish that peeta could just see that.

It's time take you back to the past

Some besties wanted a list of Everlark fics recs where Katniss and/or Peeta are blasted to the past/alternate universe to relive the events of the games to fix it, so here we are!

Katniss, after talking to Snow in his rose garden, finds herself somehow back in her childhood home. She has seven months until she enters the arena for the 74th annual Hunger Games, along with the love of her life, who when she last saw him, was still struggling not to kill her, just perfect.

The pre-game everlark that happens here is 🤌. This is part one of a larger series. The sequel (which is wonderful as well) can be found here. This is the series that got me into this rabbit hole.

Afterburn ( 104,000+ words) by BlueMaple

Katniss Everdeen-Mellark goes to the woods surrounding New Appalachia, a.k.a the former District Twelve, on the morning of the fiftieth anniversary of the final Reaping of the Hunger Games. There, she is literally waylaid by her own past, and wakes in the past, six weeks before Primrose was first Reaped. Alone, grieving, terrified, and without a clue on how she got there (and then), she realizes that it will be impossible for her- on every level- to simply live through events as they transpired in her personal future. With no way to return her to that future, she is nevertheless determined to get back to her own party - hopefully with a lot less damage and fewer crucial casualties along the way.

This is apart of the All Sorrows Less series, which is still being updated. It's filled with wonderful side characters, mindblowing twists, a baby I will kill people for and GILF Katniss, what more can I say?

Second Burn ( 127,000+ words) by carnationhes

Katniss wonders if things could be different if she got a second chance. And then she gets one. This morning she wakes up back in District 12 after Peeta's warning of the bombing on Thirteen.

Have you read Second burn? Why haven't you read it yet? You should read it. It's amazing. Literally makes my brain chemistry tingle. I think this is most accurate depiction of a Katniss being blasted to the past with no meta explanation why. It's sooo soo soo good. I'm on my knees please read it and please read the sequel Ignite as well. This series is so underated please.

I died in the Hunger Games. It isn’t even the first time it’s happened. I’ve died in the Hunger Games five times now

This is a very self contained time loop where Katniss continuously relieves the first games until she gets it right. I know it doesn't really fit the theme, but this one makes my feel happy feelings and i wanted to recommend something that's isn't so long so I'm adding it anyway. Deathloops are fun!

Ongoing:

Catching sparks (19k words) (Last update 26 Feb 2024) by Silver_Cleo

The time when 23 year old Katniss and Peeta get transported from their home in what had once been Victor's Village of District 12, and into the bodies of their much younger selves, who have just woken up from exiting the arena of the 74th Hunger Games.

Here Katniss and Peeta get traveled to the past to the point where they just win their games. It's a great WIP. I love Everlark working together and being cute + humanizing the 74th tributes and their family <3

I'm probably missing a few, but these are my favourite ones so far. As much as I love the trope, I know it's a monster to take on from a writing standpoint so props to the writers!

I hope you enjoy them <3 There's nothing I love more than shining a light on amazing fics new and old. If you have recs of your own, please send them my way. I love this trope so much haha

WHAT IF? (dealer's choice)

Avatar
WHAT IF – i will pick an important choice or event in my current project and write three sentences (or more?) about if it’d gone done differently

A smirk cracks Jarl Ffioric’s lips. He says something in Danish about a father and humping and children and love. As he speaks, he shifts his grip and Peersen’s head flops, the eyes and mouth seeming to move. Peada feels his stomach lurch.

“Jarl Ffioric agrees,” Finnick translates, though there had been more to jarl’s words.

Finnick’s arm curls around Peada’s shoulders. They are moving towards the boat, but he hears the rest of the footsteps heading in the opposite direction. He wrestles against the hold, just enough to see his brother being led for the horses. Finnick tsks his tongue, hauling him forward as they step onto the blood-filled shore. A headless body of his æthling has been stripped; arrow-riddled guards have had their valuable helmets and weapons similarly taken. When Finnick's feet splat into the water, Peada digs his heels into the water-softened mud as much as he can. A panic is building which makes it hard to breathe.

Finnick stops then, though the rest are jeering and clamoring aboard the vessel.

"Slap af," the voice is too calm, too soft and gentle and the burning in Peada's eyes should embarrass them all. Relax? Relax, when no bounty will come for these men and Peada will lose his head and anything of value, like the dead men of House Mellark lining these shores? "Fear no harm from my father."

"The king will not pay for me," Peada blurts out. If he could catch the words in midair, he would gladly choke on them.

Finnick's gaze is piercing, hands on Peada's shoulders giving a tight squeeze. "I know."

Body shuddering, brow furrowing, he is too easy to haul to Finnick's shoulder, too easily watches his own bedraggled reflection in the rippling water underfoot as Finnick wades through the river to the boat.

Aboard, the Vikings are cackling, slapping one another's backs. The sound of metal and weapons being tossed onto wooden planks makes Peada flinch as he is placed on a bench. A hand ruffles his hair.

Finnick steps away, grinning and shouting something to which Peada cannot make out but makes the other men laugh. Heavy, dragging footsteps sound from behind, and Peada looks up, to see an elderly woman with eyes like the sea. She grips his chin in a wrinkled, bony hand.

"Du ligner din far," she slurs, her gummy smile making his skin crawl. "I should like his head."

I saw a post saying that Boromir looked too scruffy in FotR for a Captain of Gondor, and I tried to move on, but I’m hyperfixating. Has anyone ever solo backpacked? I have. By the end, not only did I look like shit, but by day two I was talking to myself. On another occasion I did fourteen days’ backcountry as the lone woman in a group of twelve men, no showers, no deodorant, and brother, by the end of that we were all EXTREMELY feral. You think we looked like heirs to the throne of anywhere? We were thirteen wolverines in ripstop.

My boy Boromir? Spent FOUR MONTHS in the wilderness! Alone! No roads! High floods! His horse died! I’m amazed he showed up to Imladris wearing clothes, let alone with a decent haircut. I’m fully convinced that he left Gondor looking like Richard Sharpe being presented to the Prince Regent in 1813

*electric guitar riff*

And then rocked up to Imladris a hundred ten days later like

But does the racoon survive the Uruk-Hai? Does he curl up on Aragorn's head, or does he go straight to Faramir? Does he bite Denethor?

My friend. My colleague. My brother my captain my king. I too have been pondering this question, and in my mind there can be only one ultimate outcome.

A few months later

All hail the High Warden of Gondor.

Epilogue: It ADORES Faramir.

I’m going to wear this on my head like a raccoon and show everyone
