anger seemed to flare within her, and it was with a straightening of her back that she turned to face him. fingers clenched together into a fist at her side as she attempted to keep herself level-headed. “you think I have no PLACE? no right to state what I see before me? you are no gentleman, there is nothing ‘princely’ about you.” eyes narrowed as she directed her gaze to him again, waiting for his next words - words she knew might well send her over the precipice of rationality she seemed to be currently balanced upon.

so he was ‘retracting’ his statement, ‘releasing her from his mind’. the words were enough to make agathe’s decision for her, and it was with something of an upward twitch of her lips in her anger that she stepped towards him. “you have been deceived by your own cold heart,” she began with a clearing of her throat, stepping towards him as she gathered enough courage to go through with the plan she had begun to form only moments before. her hands shook, yet she attempted to steady them all the same as she pulled a rose from a nearby vase - one of the beautiful roses she had long admired from his garden outside.

roses that only now seemed to further her RAGE.

A gentle smile, and looking up to meet the other girl’s eyes in surprise, Agathe tilted her head to the side as she observed her briefly. “For me? Are you sure, Belle?”

Eyebrow raised at Will’s obvious discomfort, and it was with a stifled laugh that she watched as he disposed quickly of the thing in question around a corner. “I mean, I can IGNORE it but I’m not sure that either of us can ever forget that it happened.” Agathe shot him a teasing glance before again attempting to compose herself, clearing her throat as she straightened herself in her seat.

“Now, about that contract, Mr. Porter?”

A nod, then Agathe’s sympathetic gaze rose to meet his. “I see,” she murmured after a pause. “Sorry, you just had such a lost expression that I thought maybe…” her voice trailed off, though she cleared her throat a moment later and offered something of a smile. “Well, anyway, if you would need help in some way that I’m able… I still need to do my good deed for the day, so I’d be happy to.”

‘ I never ASKED for help, ‘ Sandor says beneath a huff of breath. He growled: a noise that just so happened to accompany his outwards breath, && he glared even deeper into the pits of his ale.  His scar didn’t make him weak ; it made him fearsome, && how dare she assume otherwise?       ‘ I don’t give a shite what you are ____ woman, healer, what it be – you don’t tell a man like me that you can FIX a part of him he doesn’t want bloody fixed. ‘

Lips twitched in vague amusement — or perhaps annoyance — as the man spoke. “Even if you never asked for it, that doesn’t mean that you need to be quite so rude. I meant nothing by my words, Ser… I merely thought I could perhaps help.”

A pause, and her eyes flickered upwards to meet the rude man’s gaze once again. “Healer? Perhaps. Others call me a WITCH.”

Agathe smiled as Belle finished the line, excitement evident in her eyes. “Yes, of course,” she murmured after a pause, chuckling at the question. Though she appeared a poor woman of the village, Agathe was quite more than she appeared. She’d studied Shakespeare for years — she’d even MET the man once, a couple of hundred of years prior.

“I thought I was the only one who even KNEW of Shakespeare in this town.” Belle, too, seemed to be quite more than she appeared. She was certainly different from others of the town, as they said — that much was entirely evident. It was a refreshing difference.

She was ernest in her appreciation, and it was with an outward reach of her hands that she clasped one of his, sniffing as she attempted to hold back tears. “I truly appreciate it, really. I do need to thank you. I owe you so much for what you did for me.”

A small smile came through the tears as he pressed a kiss to her hair, and it was with a shake of her head that she continued. “Really — how can I ever repay you, Will?”

She could tell he was in pain, that much she knew for sure. Agathe released a breath and with a furrowed brow she looked over his bandages to ensure they were secure. “WILL? Will, LISTEN, you were injured,” murmured the woman carefully, resting a hand upon his shoulder to keep him still. “I think you were shot. I found you beside the road. You’re very lucky to be alive.”

Agathe took a step back to reach for the water pitcher on the table behind her, filling a glass and carefully bringing it to the man’s side. “My name is Agathe. Here, some water.” She carefully raised the glass to the man’s lips, patiently waiting for him to drink. How he’d gotten there, dying beside the road and coated in dark, viscous blood, Agathe certainly did not know. But she was intent on helping him however she could — she simply couldn’t leave someone who needed her. Not when she was able to help him, and Agathe had always been quite good at healing wounds…

“Do you need anything? I know you’re in pain, Will — I’m sorry.”

She nodded, handing the book over. “It is really interesting. Mama and Papa have some nice books in the library, but they’d never buy anything like this.” And she’d heard rumors that this one in particular got a little risque later on, so she could understand why it wouldn’t be in the main library, at least. “Agathe! Beautiful name. French, right? French names are lovely. I think Anna is a name most languages use, but…I guess that just makes it more boring? It’s not very unique.”
Image

Agathe took the book into her arms, eyes raising from the cover and back to the other girl’s face. “I’m trying to grow my own library,” she said with a smile, nodding at it. “I don’t think I quite have anything like this, either.” Her thoughts centered on this briefly as she considered the book — quite unlike her usual books — when Anna spoke again, drawing Agathe’s attention once again.

“Ah — YES, my parents were both from France,” she said with a smile, nodding at the girl’s words. “Thank you. But I quite like the name Anna, too. I think it really suits you.”

Another gentle smile, and Agathe’s gaze returned to her hands folded before her. She understood his feelings, understood his mistrust. But this trip was not one to teach a lesson, it was not one to cause any further hardships in his life. Not anymore. She had her reasons for what she had done to him — regardless of whether or not it was the right decision, no one could say that for sure. No, this visit was for a far purer reason, apart from simply wanting to see the result of Adam and Belle’s love. They led a BEAUTIFUL life together now, and it warmed Agathe’s heart to know that he was a far kinder person now than so many years ago. He was truly the leader that was needed.

“It is FOR your son that I am here,” she said after a pause, bright eyes flickering up to meet Adam’s. “I come to bring a gift for you all — for him. I only wish to do good here today, you need not fear.” Another pause, and with a hesitant step forward she spoke again.

“What is his name, if I may ask?”
