re your post about being polite to men and them taking it as interest: i once gave a hair tie to this guy, and his friends were like smiling to each other acting like i was flirting with him or something. like no? i’m just a nice person, obviously it’s a foreign concept to you

LITERALLY….

WHEN YOU GIVE A MAN A HAIR TIE….

“It’s a hospital not a hotel.” is one of the shittiest fucking things I’ve ever seen commented under a patient complaining about their care. No, you’re right. It’s a hospital, not a hotel. You’re paying way more to be there and you’re likely having one of the scariest experiences of your life and you’re probably overwhelmed, in pain, unwell, having a mental crisis OR otherwise stressed. The least they can fucking do is treat you like a human being. They should you your basic human needs like water and food.

Those fucking After books/movies set feminism back 5,000 years.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t fix you” TESSA SWEETIE GET AWAY FROM THIS MAN

I literally feel like I’m watching a friend sink deeper and deeper into an abusive relationship

“I’m sorry I couldn’t fix you” AH YES. IT IS THE JOB OF YOUNG WOMEN TO FIX VIOLENT ABUSIVE MEN AND ITS HER FAULT IF HE DOESN’T GET BETTER.

DIE.

Like the movie mentions how Tessa becomes a shell of her former self every time she and Hardin break up, they fight more than they get along, Hardin literally drains Tessa, and then he published a book on HER trauma about finding her DEAD DAD ON HER APARTMENT FLOOR and HER INFERTILITY. And it’s somehow on Tessa to fix a violent alcoholic who SET HER COUCH ON FIRE because he won’t get therapy.

Like someone left this on a YouTube comment, I feel more like I’m watching a PSA on abusive relationships and how they destroy you than I do a romantic drama.

Like if I actually had a real friend dating this man, I’d have to intervene because I’d be terrified that he would KILL HER.

Oh and that absolute fucking demon told Tessa’s mother that she’s always hated him and it doesn’t matter because he doesn’t give a fuck what she thinks. Like if anyone but especially a man EVER spoke to my fucking mother like that, I would backhand him into the exosphere.

Also can we talk about portraying a mother as controlling and overbearing for trying to get an abusive and draining man away from her daughter. Lol.

Me: comes across yet another Hades/Persephone /Beauty + the beast retelling, crying: I CANNOT do this anymore

Like if I didn’t have artistic integrity, I could crank out a novel with some grim dark edgy love interest with dark hair, make a relationship that just romanticizes abuse and doesn’t have any real development except them fucking and encouraging women to get boyfriends that treat them like therapists and just slap on that it’s a hades and Persephone or beauty and the beast story while fundamentally misunderstanding the point that was the rage of mothers losing their daughters to forced marriage because women were property. And it’d be a best seller. And I just write this exact book over and over again

Like btw, an earlier edition of beauty and the beast was that the beast was raised by the fairy while his warrior queen mother was at war. Except the fairy did this to try and get the beast to marry her. And beast refuses because he views her maternally and because he’s TOO YOUNG TO MARRY ANYONE. So she curses him for rejecting her. Like this was written by a woman and I personally feel like it was a commentary on how predatory marriages of the era could be. And I feel like it’s a little hm, Odd, that people would rather have beast be an asshole when again that was a Disney thing instead of beast being turned into a beast for rejecting someone with power over him.

sometimes 'modernized' retellings of fairytales and folklore really are worse. and come from a place of disrespect rather than appreciation of where stories come from. i don't think we need another edgy cinderella story that ignores the fact that the original is essentially wish fulfillment for people in desperate situations. why do you want cinderella to be punished for her optimism and hope exactly, if not to be edgy and kind of annoying about fairy tales
