Maia and Jordan’s first meeting (part III)

In which Maia is me.

He’s asked why she won’t go in the water, and a bit awkward, she reveals she’s terrified of the ocean. He says there’s no need to be and shark attacks are a lot rarer than one thinks. Maia replies it’s not just sharks, but everything; she can swim in a pool all day long but you don’t know what’s out there: fish, stingrays, giant mutant octopuses that swallow… He interrupts her, saying if she means octopi, and she corrects him saying it’s octopuses, telling him to look it up and making Jordan smile.]

She covers her face with the book, embarrassed, so he says that it’s just the two of them and the seagulls, and promises to keep her secret.]
