Wait, is this…? I had never noticed this

realisation of Steve not needing his help anymore

was this really necessary

It’s also Bucky being more than a little upset that they turned his gentle, harmless friend—who Bucky wanted to PROTECT from the horrors of war—into a fighting machine.

was that really necessary

it’s also Bucky realizing that he can no longer protect his best friend no matter how hard he tries. he’s utterly helpless now, even after the war is over. they’ll always be wanting steve to fight this or that, and bucky won’t be able to do a darn thing to protect him.

It’s also Bucky taking the 5 seconds he has of Steve not paying attention to him so he can allow himself to process all these emotions without worrying Steve. If you watch Bucky through the movies, you’ll notice he always makes sure to look like he’s 100% fine if other people are looking at him. Fighting with Steve, but smiling at their dates. Recently tortured, but walking confidently by Steve’s side. Basically a mess, but all “Let’s hear it for Captain America!” It’s a pattern, really. Even in the flashback in CATWS, you can see he looks a lot less confident when Steve isn’t looking at him than when Steve is.

Also, Seb has mentioned that researching WW2, what left the deepest impression was how quickly everybody dies. You get attached to someone only to watch their heads being blown up in front of you the next day. I’m sure this influenced how he chose to act this scene. Because you can bet by the time this scene takes place, Bucky has seen many people - hell, maybe even friends - die, and recently, he’s had to see his whole unit be killed or captured by HYDRA. This certainly plays a role here. It’s not just a general sense of “I can’t protect Steve anymore,” it’s more like “I don’t know if Steve will live till next week.” It’s very real, very immediate. It’s a concrete prediction more than a vague fear. And if Steve’s survives, there’s still the fact Bucky knows what’s like to be changed by war, and Steve will be changed by it, which Bucky certainly hates. Either way, he loses the Steve he knew, even more than he’s already lost, with the whole “Steve Rogers is suddenly a super soldier” deal.

I’d say this scene is wartime Bucky in a nutshell. He handles the entire crowd and this whole Captain America propaganda thing without hesitation, he smiles at Steve and makes sure Steve enjoys the moment instead of pulling some “I did my duty” bullshit, and only then he allows himself to be overwhelmed by the fear that comes with being able to think 48923740 worst case scenarios in two seconds. If we can trust interviews with cast and crew, this eventually becomes his role in the war, basically - he thinks fast and does his job protecting Captain America and the missions, he takes care of Steve on a personal level by shielding him from the worst of the war as much as he can, and only then, if there’s time and Steve isn’t looking, he thinks about how the war is affecting him.

But anyway, overall, this scene is about overwhelming loss of everything Bucky knows, as well as an attempt to hide this as well as he can. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that in the 4th and 5th gifs, Seb looks a lot like comics!Bucky does when he says goodbye to his younger sister, thinking he’ll never see her again and almost breaking down in tears, but unwilling to show her he’s scared. your heart a pancake

pairing: steve rogers x reader

summary: when you're drunk and stranded at a bar and your boss calls you, he's not happy—and he ends up giving you a ride home on his motorcycle.

warnings: fluff, flirting, drunk!reader, an almost-kiss

word count: 2.8k

a/n: day 7 of my 30 day writing trope challenge is drunken confession. i've had the idea for this one for a couple days—i drew inspiration from a scene in the book in a jam by kate canterbary, which i read a couple months ago and loved! so please enjoy some sweet, fluffy flirting 😁

Oh no. You were drunk, in a bar, and your boss was calling you.

Well, Steve Rogers wasn’t technically your boss. He was your team leader, but that wasn’t an easy relationship for your non-SHIELD friends and family to understand. So you just referred to Steve as your boss.

But why was he calling you?

For a moment, you considered not answering. And, in fact, while you were still debating whether it was completely necessary to answer your team leader’s call so late at night—it was after 10pm!—the ringing stopped. You breathed a sigh of relief, then went back to searching the bar for the rest of your SHIELD team, who you’d joined for drinks.

After you’d made a complete lap of the place and determined they weren’t all in the bathroom—the bathrooms were tiny and couldn’t fit five men, especially since Rumlow was built like a brick house—you had to face the facts: They’d ditched you. Or they’d forgotten you. You couldn’t decide which option was worse.

I think you made my heart a pancake with how freaking sweet this was. Nothing is better than soft and protective Steve, and the way you wrote it 😩

I loved it! Thank you so much for writing 💙

STEVE “DID YOU GET YOUR TICKETS TO THE GUN SHOW” ROGERS

CHRIS EVANS: Oh right, a little bit of bicep porn. I really, genuinely did mess something up in my arm doing it. It’s a really unnatural position to be in–you’re trying to flex, you’re trying to look good, like, it’s not a utilitarian shot, it’s really just trying to look good

Steve Rogers leaves dishes in the sink.

In 1938, Bucky Barnes comes home from a long day at the docks and looks down at a full sink. He directs a halfhearted glare in the direction of the small lump doodling something at the kitchen table. “Goddamnit, Steve. Dishes.”

In 2016, Steve Rogers rubs his face and drags himself into the kitchen before heading out to search the city — the cooling trail — again. He drops his plate into the sink. There’s already some other things in there. He’ll get to them later, probably. When he has time. It doesn’t really matter.

He turns to go.

The shadow behind the refrigerator shifts slightly, and the Winter Soldier hoarsely whispers, “I swear to God, Steve, there’s a fucking machine for it right there.”

no bc this is canon

marvel will always be wrong for what they did to steve rogers bc while he could always stop being captain america (he dropped the shield twice in canon — for bucky and for his values) he can never stop being steve rogers. and steve rogers never gives up. that’s the whole point of his character. no matter how tired he is, how many battles he’s been in, there’s always something for him to fight for. physically or verbally. he was a chronically ill small child raised by a single mom and constantly bullied and he was picking fights. standing up for people who couldn’t / wouldn’t stand up for themselves. he was a scared young adult going against direct orders and infiltrating a hydra base on his own bc no one else would. a historical legend waking up from the dead and standing up against an entire organization (shield) and later 117 countries. breaking into a raft prison to save his friends. “he deserved rest” steve rogers cannot turn a blind eye!!!! it goes against his entire ethos!!! the very design of his character!! he might deserve rest, and he could retire from being captain america, but there is no retiring from being that little guy from brooklyn

it’s tempting to want to live in the past. it’s familiar. it’s comfortable. but it’s where fossils come from” TELL ‘EM STEVE

winter soldier is objectively my favourite cap (marvel) film but in the smut I’ve written abt steve and any time I think abt him I think abt this look

like the hair, the shirt the everything-

You took the words right out of my mouth.

This is my favourite look too and I feel like it doesn't get appreciated as much as it should, as compared to the nomad look. He looks so soft yet stern, I can't 😩

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Ok... ahem... Now... WHERE THE FUCK WAS STEVE WHEN BUCKY HAD TO GO THROUGH ALL HIS TRAUMA AFTER ENDGAME?! HUH?! HE WAS IN THE FREAKING 40S BACK WITH FREAKING PEGGY WITH WHOM HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE GOOD CHEMISTRY!!

Like you don't even have to be a Stucky shipper (like I'm not but I do ship them platonically, cause friendship over anything) to believe that Steve should have been with him to help him get through that trauma especially when he was there for Steve back when he lost his mother and was all alone.

I mean I sympathize with Steve when he woke up in this new century and was all alone but it had been a freakin' decade and Avengers had just lost one its leaders and Natasha and I get why he would finally want to be selfish for once (that is the sole reason why I had been kind of satisfied with Endgame's ending) but he could have happily lived his life there with Bucky and Sam.

Sam... Now about Sam... He just casually freaking passed him the mantle of Captain America without thinking about the consequences of it. I really liked how FATWS accurately attcked the issue of the impact Steve's absence in Bucky's life and all the hate Sam would have gotten if he would have initially accepted the role.

Well, I just think Steve deserves every right to be selfish after everything he has sacrificed but the timing was definitely not right. I had been justifying his endsing but this GIF set finally made me snap.

Silver fox and the Captain - Chapter 3

Pairing: Steve Rogers x reader

Word count: 2,1k

Warnings: Explicit language, some sexual content (ie a lot of making out and grinding)

Summary: Things flourish in unexpected, heated ways between you and the Captain, but can you afford such a distraction without tipping your whole world off balance?

You were crazy. Absolutely insane. The whole situation was completely out of hand.

And with a reckless sort of abandon, you loved it.

You tightened your hand in the captain’s shirt and dared to slip your tongue out to swipe against his bottom lip. His lips parted on a small gasp, his massive frame trembling just the slightest. And then his tongue was in your mouth, his burly body pressing you back to pin against the wall.

Ahhh I'm loving this series so much! I just can't get enough of the dynamic between then. I love the whole chase thing they have going on and how soft Steve is for her. The fact that he was so torn at the end of this chapter between helping her and going back to his job, and her staying just for a second to look back at him and secretly hoping that maybe, just maybe he would really do that for her was so gooood like 😩. Also, the tension between them is so well written that I can't help myself from silently squealing in between the scenes.

So, thank you so much for writing! Can't wait for more 💙
