Pendulum 101

Alright, pals! Time to learn all about pendulum divination! Strengths: -Pendulums are best known for their ability to give quick yes/no answers! -Pendulums are don’t cost a lot of money and are easy to make. -Pendulums are very easy to pick up and learn quickly… no extensive training needed! Weaknesses: -Pendulums require a steady hand, which some people struggle with. -Pendulums don’t provide in-depth information, just surface-level answers. How To Do It: -First, set up a pendulum board. This can be a set board or cloth, or you can scribble it down on an index card. It’s traditionally two perpendicular lines, one for yes and one for no. Other things can be added as well! (Many people include a “Maybe,” “Rephrase the question,” add a circle of numbers or letters, even zodiac signs!) -Grab your pendulum and “set” it to the board. (I usually do this by tapping each point on the board with the pendulum and saying, “yes, no, one, two,” whatever is appropriate. -Give it a test run before asking the big questions. Ask it questions you already know, to make sure there isn’t anything interfering with the pendulum. Try to ask at least one yes and one no question! -Ask your question out loud. Then wait. Eventually the pendulum will start swinging towards your answer! How It Works: There are a few different schools of thought, here. Some say your Higher Self guides the pendulum, others say that spirits do. Some say the pendulum itself has a consciousness! Other people attribute its movements to the ideomotor effect. Many skeptics will try to discredit it this way. My personal response? So what if it uses the effect? We all know your subconscious is wayyy smarter than your conscious, so you probably know the answer to your question deep in your gut, somewhere and just need to bring it to the surface. This idea only increases the validity of pendulum divination, in my eyes. Tips: -You don’t need a fancy crystal pendulum. Any weighted object on a string will do! This includes necklaces, keys on lanyards, a needle and thread, you get the idea. -Pendulums are best used indoors in areas without drafts. These air movements could interfere with your reading! -I find it better to weigh my yes/no questions as a positive affirmation. For example, “Jenny likes me.” The yes/no response here would be very clear, where as “Jenny doesn’t like me” raises questions. Is a “No” because the statement is incorrect, or no because she doesn’t like you? Affirmations also give you the added help of gut feeling. If you say, “Jenny likes me,” and your gut feeling makes it feel like a lie, that’s important information. (Remember your subconscious is smart!) - If your pendulum is acting weird, try giving it a good cleanse! Sometimes they pick up “gunk” from extended use and get bogged down. -Pendulums are very useful for contacting spirits! If you hold your pendulum still and call for a spirit, they can signal their presence by moving it. I prefer this over tarot because tarot always guarantees a response, whether a spirit is there or not. Pendulum, meanwhile, is better for confirming your answers are genuine. If you’d like to see me do any other posts like this one, let me know! :)

MERCURY IN RETROGRADE JAR!

Here’s my little spell jar to keep me free from the negative effects of mercury in retrograde! Mercury retrograde tends to seriously fuck shit up in my life so I made a little spell jar to protect me from the additional negativity it brings me.

In case anyone wants to make one of their own, I listed my ingredients. Feel free to tailor it to your needs or remove some ingredients: - sage (anti-negative energy) - black sand (anti negativity) - black salt (anti negativity) - bamboo leaf (luck) - mint (protection)* - lavender (protection and peace)* - basil (protection, dispel fears) - aventurine (protection, motivation, happiness)* - agate (protection, concentration, depression, lethargy)* *starred ingredients are herbs or crystals that correspond with the planet mercury.

I burned a sigil that meant “I am free from the negative effects of mercury in retrograde” and tossed the ashes and ingredients in the jar and sealed it with orange wax (since orange corresponds with mercury, but you can use a different color if you want). I hope this spell jar works for you if you decide to make your own! Let me know how it turned out!

mind if I ask for the recipe? :)

No, not at all! 😊 This is a family recipe that I swear by. It never, ever fails me.

Alright, this is a chicken soup recipe, so there will be meat products being used. I figure I oughta give that disclaimer since I don’t know who may be vegetarian/vegan.

Now onto your ingredients: -Two boxes of store bought chicken broth -One white onion -Garlic (I use the pre-minced store garlic because a) it saves time and b) it’s much easier to infuse into the broth) -Celery -Carrots -Wide egg noodles -Chicken bouillon cubes -Salt -Pepper -Bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs.

Directions:

Get yourself a big ass soup pot, toss in your chicken, chicken broth and fill the rest of the way with water (you want your pot about ¾ full). Put it on high and vent your lid. Par boil your chicken until it begins trying to boil over then reduce heat to med-high and let simmer. This is where you get your rich, hearty stock from. The broth, fat from the skin and marrow from the bones do wonderful things together, let me tell you.

While this happens, dice your carrots and celery ahead of time and set them aside. Once your chicken is done (it’ll look kinda gray and yellow instead of white and pink), pluck it out of the pot into a large bowl. Move your pot off the heat so it doesn’t cook out your stock. One by one, move a thigh into a seperate bowl and proceed to shred your chicken. (Pro-tip, if you have a hand mixer or food processor, this process can go much faster as long as the bones are removed)

Next, put in your veggies and noodles with the shredded chicken. Next comes spices. Add pepper and salt to taste (you can always do a little at a time if you’re worried about going overboard) along with about 4-5 bouillon cubes. If you have minced garlic, add about 4 spoonfuls (the little spoons) into the broth. If you have whole cloves, smash em and mince the shit out of them, about 6 big ones, and toss them in.

Stir really well (I always stir both clockwise and counter to banish sickness and draw wellness). Set the pot back on the heat (remember, med-high) and let that sucker cook until the noodles are just at al-dente. You don’t want em too squishy and mushy. Take this time while the noodles cook to taste your broth repeatedly. You want to taste the all the components strongly without them being too overpowering. Basically, if it burns your throat pleasantly and makes your nose tickle, you got yourself a badass broth.

Once done, serve with fresh cracked pepper and a big ass glass of water or vitamin c rich juice. Remember to remove the pot from the heat even after it’s off so it doesn’t continue to cook out your broth and over-tenderize your noodles.

To store: let the soup cool completely and transfer to a big tupperware and refrigerate. Eat the rest within the next 2 days.

Stay well or get better this season!

Well this is going in my receipe book!

Holy crow is this getting notes! While I’m here, I’d like to mention that this soup is going to make you pretty tired. I made this for my sister two months ago and right after she finished, she laid down and slept for 10 hours straight and woke up with a face full of snot but clear sinuses. Tonight, mom ate her bowl and took a 4 hour nap on the couch. She just wandered off to bed after telling me her sinuses and chest already feel much clearer and her throat barely hurts. I’m not sure what it is about this soup, but it knocks you clean out and goes straight to work on what ails you. So be cautious about driving or anything of the sort after eating this. Not that it has the same sedative capabilities as say, morphine, but I would recommend finding a cozy place to curl up afterwards on the off chance you do end up feeling drowsy, just to err on the side of caution. I’d also like to mention that I am in no way a doctor so don’t take my advice in lieu of medical assistance! Please, if you can, seek a doctor first as always. This is purely meant to be used in a supplementary fashion in addition to medication. Okay I’ll leave you guys alone now, I’ve talked your ears off enough.

Oooof, the swords are pretty intimidating in spells…

Always reblog. Some of these may be different for others depending on the deck they have, but it’s really just interpreting the individual card. (just in case any witchlings were worried about a source)

Back + neck issues:

Brainfog:

Fatigue:

Headaches:

Immune system:

Joint pain:

Migraine:

Muscle pain + spasms:

Pain (general):

Sleep problems:

Stomach issues:

If anyone knows of additional witchy content for any of these that I missed, or content on a category I wasn’t able to include, feel free to send it my way and I’ll get a part two started for this post!

Devotional Acts Don’t Have to be High Maintenance

Many gods will be perfectly pleased with easier, less high maintenance forms of devotion. The gods I worship are, for the most part, more focused on the intent behind the offering than the offering itself. This is especially good for disabled or mentally ill patrons who might not be able to do every sort of devotional act. Some low-energy devotional acts:

  • eating food associated with the god
  • giving some of that food to the god by placing it outside (make sure it’s safe for animals to eat too)
  • dressing in clothing that reflects the god
  • decorating with animals/figures representative of the god
  • reblogging/blogging pictures associated with their symbols
  • reblogging and reflecting on prayers/hymms
  • starting a devotional blog
  • ‘inviting’ your god to do certain asks — like watch a show that makes you think of them
  • draw them pictures
  • write them songs, poems, or stories
  • read a passage from a book out loud to them
  • tell them good morning and good night
  • do simple research online, like looking up pictures of the god

Melt The Frost--An Imbolc Spread

Imbolc helps us say farewell to the hibernation of winter and usher in the bountiful months of spring. I hope that this spread can help you determine what areas of your own lives are stagnant, and how to bring them back to life!

1. Frost: This position represents that which has frozen over in your life. Where do you see stagnation? In what ways have you become stuck?

2. Flame: This position symbolizes the spark that will help you usher in your productive season. What can help you move forward with your goals? What will thaw out your frozen motivation?

3. Flower: This position marks the joys that await you in the spring season. What seeds lie dormant, waiting for the spring to let them blossom? What gifts will arrive with the changing season?
