In a press conference held by the Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza earlier today, they confirmed that they estimate 10,000 missing people remain missing under the rubble and that, with their very limited means right now, in order to be able to locate and exhume these bodies, the operation could take up to three years. Until then, these 10,000 are not counted among the casualties.

As summer approaches, the trapped bodies are going to be a major source of illnesses and epidemics are expected to spread. Already, there are 20,000 cases of hepatitis in Gaza.

All of this of course is made infinitely more difficult by Israel blocking fuel from entering while it continues to target civil defence vehicles. As a matter of fact, Rafah now has only 3 functioning fire trucks according to a Palestinian Civil Defence spokesperson.

This is pure art.

For those curious, this was taken at the Oceti Sakowin camp during the No DAPL protests in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The photograph is titled “Defend the Sacred” by Ryan Vizzions. I did not find the name of the subject on horseback.

Her name was  Marissa Blacklance. #Dakota38 rider, & front line water protector at Standing Rock. She was killed by a drunk driver in January of 2018.  Her mother is using this tragedy to make changes benefitting our community with the Yellow Scarf tribute.

In the soup

I noticed this morning that my main blog over at Out of Ambit had had a sudden spike in pageviews, the last couple of days. So I went under the hood and looked around, and sure enough, there was a note that a post of mine had been linked to from a page at a Terry Pratchett book club podcast, Pratchat.

As soon as I glanced down their page, I saw what they'd been discussing... and had to grin. So here for those of you who may not have heard the story yet, may I present two brief tales:

And, new to me, from a German source:

*Besides a lot of snickering as Peter and I made our way up the Eiger the next day...

I mean at the end of the day when the lesson the devs seemed to learn from the failure of dragon age 2 was “don’t try to be original or interesting about anything ever” instead of, you know, “if a game’s development is incredibly rushed it will not be released in a finished form and people will understandably be peeved about this” that kind of destroyed any chance of dragon age ever being good again. you understand

Dragon age 4 will never come out, obviously, and that’s perhaps as it should be. However, if it does come out, which it won’t, they do have to bring back Sigrun is the thing
