Cloudy skies, lowering temperature, gentle chills blowing across the cityfolk of Altiel… the cooler seasons were arriving, meaning many citizens were bundling up and readying themselves for the holidays. Shopping, staying warm, making memories with photoshoots, families walking together… no matter the lowering temperature, there was still a sense of warmth bustling about…

“I’m not certain why, but seeing rays of light breaking through winter clouds… it’s such a gentle yet inspiring sight…” the normally sheepish Gardevoir commented with a tender tint of excitement, ears lifting as she felt her artist fingers twitch her finger across an open page in her sketchbook.

“Yeah, it’s kinda pretty I guess…” Meanwhile, the pale Gallade just looked on towards the sea, his gaze seeming… disinterested…? This didn’t go by Oriel unnoticed, of course…

“Brother?”

“… Yeah?”

“… Pardon me for saying so, but you seem distant… is everything alright? You’ve grown passive as of late…”

“Eh, well… it’s just, we’ve been working here for a while, doing all these fights and whatnot, raising money to make our ends meet…”

“Yes…?”

I enjoy solitude though so I guess I’d want to do my own thing? My parents tell me that I should become a teacher but…nah.

It never hurts to get out a little more and see what others think of your work too, don’t forget that!” The taller blue Meloetta pointed at herself ecstatically, her friendly smile and eager tone never slipping.

“I won’t lie, hearing you planning your own career path at this age is really sweet! I don’t hear that often! That’s why, in case ya ever consider it...!”

It was right there that Caprice realized she was getting ahead of herself, her friendliness and excitement being a bit much for her own good. After all, she didn’t even get his name, much like give hers. Letting out a giggle, she held out her hand with a somewhat sheepish, apologetic grin.

“Whoa, sorry, gettin’ all worked up and nothin’ to be called for it! The name’s Caprice! What’s yours, li’l guy?”

“And when it strikes, the devil shadows closely.”

Zarathos let out a metallic sigh, overlapping his arms as he keeps his masked gaze fixated on Erastus.

“The measure of warrior is the way they bear up under trials. Same could apply to guardians such as yourself. Be thankful that fate smiled upon the one you protected at a small, yet painful price in your expense. The fact that you bear that mark without allowing your resolve to waver is just as how it should be. A fair example of a protector.”

With that roundabout compliment, the dark knight began to step away, looking offways, but not before letting out one more note. “My curiosity is sated for now. As for yourself, do not allow your vigilance to slip. One error could leave a permanent mark on not just your reputation, but the impression you’ve left on others associated with a fallen subject. That is all.”

While it had a harsh lecturing tone about it, it also had a  weight of… empathy to it. Experience. As if the equally-towering Bisharp spoke from such a scenario. A moment of silence welled between Zarathos and Estrus before the dark knight began to slip through the floor in a shadowy chasm, phasing his way out.
