The five of swords. Heated competition, boastfulness, victory at any cost.

I'm an art director and supervisor for a large studio. The studio heads had the bright idea before I started to hire prompters. Several bros were brought onto the film project. I absolutely hated myself for not quitting on the spot but stuck with it because it's mercenary out there. Have a family to feed etc. I decided to use this time wisely. Treat them as I would any artist I had hired. First round of pictures of a sweeping Ariel forest landscape comes through and it's not bad. They submit a ton of work and one or two of the 40 are ok. Nearly on brief. So first round feedback goes through and I tell them about the perspective mistakes, colour changes I want, layers that any matte painting would be split into. Within a day | get 5 variants. Not changes to the ones I wanted but variations.

Again. Benefit of the doubt I give them another round of feedback making it clear. Next day it's worse. I sit there and patiently paint over, even explaining the steps I would take as a painter. They don't do it, anomalies start appearing when I say I want to keep the exact image but with changes. They can't. They simply don't have the eye to see the basic mistakes so the Ai starts to over compensate. We get people starting to appear in the images. These are obviously holiday snaps.

"Remove the people"

"What would you like them changed to?"

"... grass. I just don't want them there"

They can't do it. The one that can actually use photoshop hasn't developed the eye to see his mistakes, ends up getting angry at me for not understanding he can't make specific changes. The girl whose background was a little photography has given me 40 progressively worse images with wilder mistakes every time. This is 4 days into the project.

I'm both pissed about the waste, but elated seeing ai fall at the first hurdle. It's not even that the images are unusable, the people making them have no eye for what's wrong, no thicker skin for constructive criticism and feedback, no basic artistic training in perspective and functionality in what they're making.

Yes the hype is going to pump more money into this. They won't go anywhere for a while.

But this has been such a glowing perfect moment of watching the fundamental part fail in the face of the most simple tasks. All were fired and the company no longer accepts Ai prompters as applicants. Your training as an artist will always be the most important part of this process and it is invaluable. I hope this post gives you a boost in a dark time.

regular lobsters start out as just little lobsters but spiny lobsters start out as these beautiful weird larvae that also evolved to ride on top of jellyfish. This jellyfish is too small though!!!

imagine some other guy evolving specifically just to annoy you. what the fuck

I really like this idea.

Basically, it’s magic where the spell components are things like assassinations, making and breaking oaths, the death of the only heir to a lineage, etc. and the results apply on a grand (or at least political) scale.

This gives room for, like, weird prophecies with people being sent on strange errands to ensure that it comes to pass (because it’s not a prophecy, it’s a spell in progress), searches for omens that are the early signs of an effect, etc.

It gives your cultures reasons to be weird. It makes the world a more magical place.

Avatar, but it’s Azula and her “friends” in place of Zuko and Iroh.

In this timeline, Ozai realized that he can use Zuko’s desire to be accepted to mold him into a perfect puppet. He becomes Ozai’s favorite child while the more independent and domineering Azula gets banished.

Iroh offers to escort her like he did Zuko in the canon timeline, but she rejects him because she considers him weak. She takes her two lackeys from school Ty Lee and Mai instead.

She’s less concerned with hunting down the Avatar like her father ordered to, realizing he gave her an impossible task on purpose. Instead, she tries to “prove her worth” and stick it to Ozai by carving out her own little empire and winning the war on her own.

Avatar

I wonder if she would team up with the Gaang or hunt them down.

Or do both things.

She wouldn’t hunt them down.

They would hunt her down.

Aang: Azula, can you pretty pretty please stop your plans for world domination and teach me firebending?

Azula: *looking at her nails* no.

Sokka: it’d piss off your dad, and we’ll make you Fire Lord after the war?

Azula: ….fine.

Ozai: Zuko, your sister is a traitor, go hunt her and the Avatar down.

Zuko: Yes, dad.

Ozai: Zuko, we talked about this.

Zuko: Yes, firelord dad, sir.

Ozai: Close enough.

I feel like Ty Lee and Mai would get tired of Azula’s shit and defect to team Avatar before she does.

She would be furious at first, but after a while she would crawl back and beg them to come back to her.

Mai: We don’t need you Azula, we have new friends now, a new purpose, and a boyfriend.

Azula, looking at Sokka being smothered: Is he your boyfriend or Ty Lee’s?

Ty Lee: We share.

Sokka: Help…

I’m adding this ask to the main post because it’s important

Imagine something like when Aang accidentally burned Katara’s hands, but worse, and permanent.

I’ve seen people use a bunch of different names for this AU so I’m gonna officially call it the Renegade Princess AU.

In this AU Ozai figures out that Azula would eventually grow up to become a tenacious leader that would try to overthrow him and run things her way. And he can’t let that happens.

So throughout her childhood, while he’s fostering Zuko to be basically a little Mini-Ozai clone of him, he puts down Azula as much as he can.

He degrades her mentally and psychologically, denies her things he gives Zuko, and even tries to starve her by locking her up in her room with no food (though Zuko and Ursa do sneak her food).

These constant handicaps and putdowns only make Azula want to impress her father more. She pulls schemes and stunts to get his attention and develops a mental resolve that she doesn’t have in the canon timeline.

She thinks her dad still loves her and he’s just testing her to make her the best she could be. Her friends tell her that he hates her but she doesn’t believe them.

It’s only when Ozai banishes her that she begins to question it. When she confronts him in his room, that’s when she realizes her father never loved her, and she attacks him in anger.

Some more ideas:

1. Throughout her childhood, Azula was never allowed in her father’s room, while Zuko was often invited there for father-son mentoring/brainwashing. This is why it’s so meaningful for her to have entered it on the day of her banishment.

2. Before her hands were scarred, her firebending was strong with blue flames. Afterwards, her fire is red and much weaker. This is however mostly a psychological phenomenon, and recovering from her trauma and obsession with Ozai helps her regain her blue flames. (idea by @theevenprime)

3. Her normal outfit after being banished is a modified Fire Nation school uniform with special gloves to protect and hide her scarred hands

i feel like zuko’s arc would be a lot different than Azula’s her canon arc is *being* perfect then finding out you aren’t And being unable to deal with that so you fall apart here zuko knows he isn’t perfect but he feels he has to be in order to be the son of the firelord- the firelord who brutally maimed his own daughter his *prefered* child IDK what kind of confrontation Azula had with ozai but for maximum impact I’m going to assume Zuko saw it watched his father torch his sister’s hands and realized that his father would do the same to him so from that day Zuko is the perfect picture of filial piety- because he’s seen the consequences of disobedience And a similar sort of thing would happen where Zuko gets sent out to capture the avatar and clean up his sister’s mes but as he continues to fail he becomes more and more terrified He would’t see his mother in the mirror when he’s hallucinating: he’d see ozai furious and wreathed in flames you could even put in a little nod to canon by having ozai aim for his face And it would still culminate with the Agni Kai because that scene was awesome but the end would be different azula wins (and presumably has become less evil) (much much less evil) and we get a similar scene to Zuko’s Agni Kai with Zhao with Azula refusing to maim Zuko except I feel like zuko would beg her to finish it because he doesn’t want to live to see what he assumes will be his father’s inevitable victory the poor boy has been hostage to a highly abusive power dynamic for several years now and unlike azula lacks the self confidance to even think about being able to fight his father (in canon it never comes up but we all know she absolutely would kill ozai if she could) And probobaly is deep in his hallucination about Ozai coming to hurt him

Concept flag for Azula’s pirate crew which she founded after being banished instead of searching for the Avatar
