Hello there! I’m really interested in teaching myself to make simple animations, but I’m not sure where to start and I really like your work! Do you have any suggestions on any books, software or other info sources I could investigate to start learning? Best wishes!
Hi Anon ! First of all, I would recommand you the book of Richard Williams, Animator’s survival kit. There are all the basics... but it’s kind of “old school” animation I think. Than I should recommend you to observe and analyze movements in slow motion and try to understand how body mechanic works ! I am working on TVpaint animation, it’s like traditionnal animation but I don’t know if you can have a free version or a demo of this. And before you work on you animation, draw some thumbnails of your movement on a piece of paper just to see the general shape and the dynamic line ! And once you’ve got that, work really roughly and focus on timing and spacing : this is two really important notions for a good animation. The quality of your drawing comes after ! You can come in private if you want to discuss about it ! :) Good luck !
