for jon: i just used a generator for irish-sounding names. i don’t know why irish in particular, but. there’s no special meaning behind it–at least not intentionally. for his parents: i named his dad after El Oscuro from rise of the triad, with “cameron” also tying into the darkness theme, while jon’s deadname and birth mom were meant to be light-themed, to highlight the expectation that jon would be a messiah to deliver the underground from sin. so his plain jane-ass chosen name contrasts with that! his adoptive parents got “jon” from the first part of jojo’s bizarre adventure.

for the dreemurrs: i liked the idea of chara’s name actually being short for “character” and gave that to them as something to be kind of “wtf were my parents smoking” about. “narcissus” comes from their rocky history with the multiverse: with how many people hate chara on sight, their first guess was that they must be the best possible version of themself to have not done the things that made people hate chara, but…after finding out such was not the case, they took up “narcissus” as a nickname to remind themself of their hubris. asriel’s “tiresias” nickname came shortly after, tying into the prophet from the myth of narcissus. sort of a siblingly “i told you so” sorta thing.

for sorlag: that’s literally just her canon name. that’s it lol

tbh a lot of it is just stuff rolling off the tongue, but then i get self conscious about making sure i’m not projecting too much of myself onto the muses. i’ve staved this off on the discord server by having a bunch of muses in the chat that i feel can suit different microsituations without worrying too much about feeling like a particular muse is acting too far out of turn, but on here? it’s a little harder. it’s a little portion of why i haven’t been active on the blog for, like, a year.

honestly? i zero in on what partners/audiences seem to be interested in and run with them. sometimes stuff comes to me, but i think of myself as a people-pleaser first. i think that’s why i like the ask blog format a lot.

jon is very much not religious, given his upbringing in the Sovereign Nation of His Blessed Monsters. kinda left a sour taste in his mouth. i myself am agnostic ooc and this is not a projection of any real religious trauma on my own part, and i don’t want it to come across as a condemnation of any religious beliefs on anyone else’s part, IC or OOC, but jon’s religious trauma is a pretty significant building block for his characterization.

at one point in his development, jon had a pair of prosthetic mettaton legs because of the microwave incident, but i never really did anything with that and decided to just scrap it because i couldn’t really do anything interesting with it
