books! lists!! tier ranking!!! my beloved❤

behold the tier list of all the books i read in 2021 which i’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time on and am almost happy with! :D

honestly this was an amazing reading year for me. it started well, it ended with a bang (i managed to read seven books in december and four (4) of them were five star reads :D) and i’ve discovered some new all time favorites. speaking of which, the gok cover obviously stands for the entire lymond chronicles as do several other ones, though generally i would say i’ve read less series than last year but started quite a few haha

i feel like i got better at prioritizing the books i’m likely to enjoy over the ones that are popular on booktube or booklr or belong to The Acclaimed Literature, hence the absence of the *bad* tier bc indeed i haven’t read a single book that i felt deserved one star. i’ve also re-read several old faves (although this list doesn’t include them) and that felt wonderful, i should do that more.

my most life-changing bookish experience however was ~~discovering fucked up bl manga~~ meeting @starlingshrike who lets me talk to her about books and reads the books i recommend and then recommends good books too like,, wow. i like it. was anybody going to tell me that having friends who share your tastes and interests feels that good or was i just supposed to find that out myself by bonding with an internet stranger over our mutual hatred towards ve schwab?

I actually can’t believe I’ve only been pestering @bloody-wonder for under a year, it feels like we’ve known each other for years. Vika made me get onto goodreads and actually keep track of what I read and my thoughts, we’ve argued and fangirled and shared recs and I love to see things I’ve recced high on your list!! and vice versa!!

yearly reminder to everyone to just. message people. if you have something in common, go for it! can’t guarantee that everyone is as funny or insightful as @bloody-wonder but it’s worth a shot!
