“The sun always shines above the clouds.” It is true; I must know. Because for a long long time, I journeyed with her. Until we eventually grew s y n o n y m o u s ———

A long Way from Home

She had not expected the woman’s warm greeting and smile, rather thinking that perhaps someone that lived in such a secluded area would not like strangers appearing, alone and armed, at their doors in the dark of night.

Thoughts stormed her mind as she pondered on an excuse to explain who she was, why she was there. Straightening her posture and taking slow cautious steps from out of the shadows the trees provided, Elin returned the stranger’s smile.

“I was hunting in the woods, of which I am not entirely familiar with, and became lost. You see– I live far from here. To make things even more unfortunate, my horse is nowhere to be found. Do you know of an inn close by, or something of the sort, where I can take shelter until the dawn comes?” - the dragonborn replied, quite proud of herself for being skilled enough with words to get away with this, or at least she thought she would, perhaps the other would not believe her.

Hopefully without the stranger noticing it, her fingernails sank into the wood of her porch’s railing. Oh my goodness. What had she just done? Being so nice and inviting seemed like the most suspicious thing she probably was able to decide to do. Who wouldn’t end up shady themselves if they were so welcoming to a stranger so late into the evening? Maybe the other would just brush it off as this being an exceptionally naive and nice Midgardian. At least that was what Sól hoped for. So many hopes tonight-- The smile made way to an expression of intent hearing - if that was even a face she was able to make. ‘I live far from here.’ Pretty much the words that validated her fear. The rest of the woman’s explanation, too. But-- Keeping up the act of an unknowing mortal, Sól slightly frowned. As if she was trying to grasp the meaning of the other’s cryptic words -- and she turned her head away to scan the forest around her little house. Not in search of a glimpse of a supposed horse being lost somewhere out there. The Everglowing tried to make out any companions that might be waiting, hiding out there in the shadows. But it seemed like she came here alone. “I’m afraid I havent seen any riderless horses lately.” Alright, one point down. Another to go-- But what to reply to that one? By the Gods. No.                               No. Sól knew very well that there was no such thing as an inn within walking distance and estimated arrival before dawn. Which left her to only one thing a helpful little human could do right now. Whether she liked it, or not.

“I’m afraid that is another thing I cannot deliver an answer to.                                                     -- the alternative would be... you stay here?                                                                                               Only for a night.

Sól’s days on Earth were filled with so, so many humans, she couldn’t ever take them all in. All their eyes, their hair, their faces. But what a peculiar man she laid her bright eyes upon today. Odd. Sól was almost tempted to say it was the most peculiar man she’d ever seen. He just seemed to...                                              stand out.

Oh no--  The man had probably seen her staring, because he’d approached her now. He moved his mouth. Oh-- he was saying something; but before she had regained her senses. What did he say?! He looked like he was waiting for some kinda answer or explanation. Well, she was gonna deliver either quickly--

“A-Ah, yeah. Yeah. I like what you did to your... eyebrows. They make you look--”, the girl confidently said, before coming to an unplanned stop. She’d spoken without thinking first. And now her improvising skills failed her. Wasn’t something unusual with her, actually. Sól slightly waved her hands about as if it would help her regain access and control over her mental library of vocabulary, especially adjectives.                             “-- so serious.”

“Oh?”

A snort. His face twisting into dulled interest. This girl and her misguided words. Such folly is for fools.

“If you weren’t of any significant value, then you would not be born. Your family line would cease to be. Every life has purpose whether discovered or not.”

Circling around her. Idly examining her form. An odd specimen of human. Her words also cause him to give and eye roll.

“You are the universe manifesting to learn to understand itself better. Your species fails to fathom the point of their existence. “

The blonde again struggled to get out a decent response, averted her gaze downwards to the ground beneath; struggled to keep at least some composure in this rather unsettling scene. Her family line would cease to be, even with her existance. But that was a thing the other needn’t know. Her blue eyes followed the man as he ecircled her as if to examine her. Sól didn’t dare to move--

Before his movement could describe a whole circle, she turned to face him. To look at him. The way he talked...                    “What are you?”
