“Huh,” Hidan struggles to understand but he accepts the others words without question. Meeting his partner’s eyes Hidan tilts his head and offers a small grin, “That’s actually kinda fucking cool. Do you think they retain anything from the person you took the hearts from?”

“Besides their powers? No.”

He didn’t expect Hidan to know much of anything about how his... constructs worked, but his assumptions were off. Too humanizing.

“They’re more like... jellyfish. They don’t have personalities. They’re driven by instinct, and that’s it. If they retained the traits of the ninja I stole them from, I’d use them more sparingly than I already do.”

“Hey Kakuzu,” Keeping his pace the albino turns his eyes to the others back. There was so much he didn’t know or understand about the older man and while he was sure his prodding wasn’t appreciated Hidan couldn’t stop himself from being curious, “Do your masks exist as a separate part of you or are they an extension?”

Normally broken silence would agitate him, but that question had ailed him for the longest time as well. Suppose he could alleviate some curiosity.

“It’s more complicated than that,” he began. “Any entity with its own heart is technically an individual. I exert control over them, but they’re driven by their own forces. In a technical sense, they aren’t a part of me at all.”

Any peacefulness in his demeanor dropped.
“Ah,”
His hands tightened on one another.
“It wasn’t anything too terrible. Nothing to worry about.”
At least, he wasn’t going to let himself worry about it. That altercation was well taken care of and out of his mind.
“It won’t jeopardize my work,”
That was all that really mattered. And now, it seemed like Obito was measuring just how far his companion needed to tip that cup of coffee back until it was empty. Eyes narrowed at the base of the cup when it hit the table again.
Obito was very… Hands off when it came to what he did. True, he wasn’t usually the type to get messy. Suppose it was a one time deal, for very specific reasons he wasn’t going to delve into.

“Oh?”

Maybe he sounded a little too amused.

“Not going to do anything to ‘save face’? I thought you were all about image, Madara. Never imagined I’d see the day you didn’t care about your precious impression on others.”

A nonchalant wave of the hand shooed any reply to that away.

“Anyway, I never thought you’d be messing with the dead. From what I heard, you were picking on a zombie, right? Maybe they were just exaggerating,”

One could never truly believe what they overhear on the street, but Kakuzu knew well of Madara’s undertones. He could flaunt his calm demeanor all he wanted, but Kakuzu knew so well. Sure, he didn’t know the serial killer bit, but it was easy to tell who had some anger issues a little further under the skin.

Even easier to tell when you happen to have severe anger issues yourself.
