“jake! i didn’t know you worked here!”
y/n saw jake frantically look up at her and scramble to the cash register. “when did you start?”
jake gave her a quick smile as he leaned against the counter. “about a week ago, my parents have been struggling financially so i decided to help out a bit. but i like working here! the managers are nice, the customers come often, and…”
‘and you live near here’ is what he wanted to say, but held back. jake knew you weren’t okay in terms of romance especially after having your heart broken by jay.
and it would be embarrassing to admit the main reason as to why he chose to work at the convenience store.
“and it pays well.” that wasn’t necessarily a lie, jake did get paid a lot considering he worked at a small store. “is heeseung at dance practice right now?”
“yeah, he has an exam soon so he’s practicing with jungwon right now.” y/n answered. “he’s trying to leave as soon as possible because he’s worried that… someone is going to be there.”
y/n didn’t have to say his name for jake to know what she meant. it was painfully obvious she was thinking about jay. and jake hated that. he hated how easily he occupied her mind when he was the reason of her recent heartbreak. jay didn’t deserve her time and effort.
jake wanted to get her mind off things, so he proposed an idea. “my shift ends soon, want to walk around the area a bit?”
y/n thought about it for a second. of course she knew jake, but she wasn’t super close with him. and she only ever spoke to him when he was with heeseung. but with everything that had happened so far, she secretly knew that she needed company more than ever.
“sure! i’ll go wait outside then.”
and after y/n left the store, jake found himself constantly checking the clock while he hoped that his shift would end sooner.
