if she let them all in on the secret ── that some mornings, it was hard to get out of bed & put on SOMEONE ELSE'S SMILE; that she was standing on air, A FAKE who laughed at all the right jokes & whispered all the right gossip & attracted the right guy.

it wasn't like she hadn't tried other methods, of course there were plenty she hadn't ––– biting was just the easiest and quickest of them all. pot and pan lid banging would've been attempted if they hadn't been in the dishwasher. she'll swear but he doesn't seem upset by the chomp. brow raises and she starts to argue her case until he distracts them, pulling her close, making her forget what she'd been so eager to tell him. "gimme a sec, need to reboot ––– your eyes are like so pretty it just ain't fair –––" she sighs, though she doesn't look away, settling herself onto his lap. "oh! yeah, i just wanted t'see what you want to eat tonight, like it ain't life or death but like ––– it's getting late, figured you hadn't noticed it was, what are you workin' on anyways?" they peek over jonah's shoulder at his computer, fingers starting to absently toy with his hair, a genuine curiosity in her tone.
