If you haven’t watched Dickinson on Apple TV+ you’re seriously missing out. It’s such a great show. Beautiful visuals, bangin’ soundtrack, these two sapphic babies…do yourself a favor.

- The Vampire Diaries, We’ll Always Have Bourbon Street
Prompts ask! You know what I'll ask -- I don't know if you've caught but if you did, the post after this the one with Rebekah bombarding Hope with questions about Lizzie would be great! Because Hope would be '????' | Or! Lizzie realizing her feelings for Hope after being rescued again. | Or Hope/Lizzie, during the thelma & louise/bonnie & clyde roadtrip
(Let's go with the first one)
---
---
"We love you, Hope," Freya said and Hope closed her eyes to batter the words away from the carefully erected walls containing the humanity she had absolutely no intention to release.
"Always," Marcel added with a soft look that as soon as Hope opened her eyes and caught it, made something she refused to name an emotion, claw up the back of her throat.
"And forever," Rebekah finished for them, her own stare pinning Hope in her seat.
"God, you're more annoying than Lizzie," she ground out, forcing the stubbornly flickering memories of warmth back into the grave they deserved to rot in.
She knew it was a mistake even as she said it, - wasn't even sure why the words had come - and was proven correct as soon as Rebekah twisted her head and a spark of interest lit within her gaze.
"Lizzie? And who's that?" her aunt's tone was light and the very opposite of leading but it didn't fool Hope in the least. She'd just given Aunt Bex a loose thread and there was absolutely no way Hope would be able to shake it loose from her hands now.
That didn't mean Hope wasn't going to try.
"Nothing. No one," she said and crossed her arms, sending a glare somewhere over everyone's heads.
"But someone annoying," Kol chimed in with a smirk that was practically audible.
She pressed her mouth into a line, refusing to dignify them with a response.
"Is she someone from the school?" Rebekah asked, with her elbows on the table now and leaning in towards Hope.
She really needed to put a stop to this.
"Just someone who thought she could get my humanity back by using sentiment too, it didn't work out for her either," Hope smiled viciously "I snapped her neck."
For a moment Rebekah's face clouded over but then her eyes narrowed and amusement bloomed in its place.
"That's not the end of the story though, is it? She's a vampire."
Hope clenched her teeth.
"Well, she wasn't at the time. And a heretic, actually," she corrected, reluctant. Something uncomfortable was starting to crawl through her stomach. She didn't want to talk about Lizzie, didn't want to think about Lizzie either.
Didn't want to acknowledge how close Lizzie actually came to succeeding when she betrayed her.
"Tell us about her?"
"What's there to tell? She tried to get my humanity back, she failed, she died, she got sired to me because she was too stupid to check whose blood she was using for her insurance policy, she-" Hope cut off mid-sentence when everyone sitting at the table abruptly all leaned forward with variously entertained expressions on their faces. Freya was smiling, Kol's previous grin had taken on something unholy and gleeful, Marcel started chuckling to himself, and Aunt Bex looked like she'd won a lottery.
"What?!" she snapped, irritated now.
"Sired?"
"Yeah," she dragged out slowly, eyes running over her aunts and uncles, trying to figure out what about that information could possibly have been so funny. "Why?"
They all exchanged a loaded look with each other but didn't say anything to answer Hope.
"Nothing, honey," Marcel finally spoke up "though I think I need to take a closer look at that curriculum they're teaching at that school of yours."
"Wait," Rebekah said a moment later, "heretic? Is Lizzie one of Caroline's twins?"
"Yes. Why?" Hope asked, more slowly again, starting to more and more feel like the smart play here would have been to turn around and leave as soon as she'd brought up Lizzie's name.
"Wow, Nik would have loved this."

#the interesting thing is#how lizzie echoed hope's words she said#all the way back in the early days of s1#at the height of lizzie disliking hope#in the 1x04 scene itself we saw hope's words affected lizzie#i didn't realize she carried those comforting words all#the way to season 4#i also love that in the 4th gif on the right#hope actually clocks lizzie's words#and knows that lizzie was more or less quoting her#hope recognized the sentiment and the time in her life#when she had a healthier outlook on grief

“We were young,“ she said. “Stupid."” “Crazy,” he added. “Selfish.” “In love.” “Yeah,” she whispered. “That, too.”
