It’s Friday again, and you’re leaning your head against the window of Kyungsoo’s car. The window is half-opened, tangling you hair as the two of you drive through the deserted road that leads to Baekhyun’s car workshop, but you don’t mind. In fact, the wind is perfect; it drowns out Kyungsoo’s voice.
You smile as you recall what happened last Saturday. Your night drive with Baekhyun, his bruised cheekbone, sitting with him by the river… The best part of it all is that you don’t have to pretend like it never happened. On the Monday after that weekend, Baekhyun asked you how your Sunday went, and when you told him that it was boring in comparison to what happened on your night drive, he smirked and said “I bet.”
“What’s making you so happy?” Kyungsoo asks, closing the windows and effectively muffling the sound of the wind.
“I’m just excited,” you reply. You try to suppress your smile but find it to be an impossible task. It feels like those good days in secondary school, when you found yourself eager to go to class just to see a crush.
Not that you have a crush on Baekhyun, of course…
“Excited for what?” Kyungsoo inquires. “You finally like working with cars?”
“Something like that.”

Baekhyun hates Monday nights because he’s a designated driver of a shady collective of robbers, and on Mondays, these robbers target banks. Although Baekhyun doesn’t see what’s wrong with taking money from those that already have so much of it to begin with, he hates it when the police get involved—and they always get involved, and he always has to end his already awful nights with a police chase into downtown Daegu until he can shake them off.

In your final and fourth year of college, you found yourself succumbing to laziness and the need to do the opposite of what you should have been doing. Your motivation to be a good student especially declined as you approached the final semester, and it was during that time that you lost track of time and overstayed your visit to a friend the day RAs were doing room checks.
“Fuck,” Sunny muttered as she quickly closed the room to her dorm. “We’re not supposed to have people over today.” She then glanced at the half-eaten box of pizza on her small dresser. “Or have food.”
“Who’s the RA?” you asked, unworried and unhurried. “Are they chill?”
“I heard he’s hot, but I don’t know. I don’t really talk to him.” Sunny was already scrambling to hide the box of pizza under her bed’s blanket. “You should probably hide. I don’t wanna get in trouble.”
“Can’t we just pretend that I’m your dorm mate?”
“They have access to our student IDs so that kind of stuff doesn’t happen,” Sunny said, shutting a drawer. “Get under my bed—” Someone knocked on the door, and the next thing you knew, Sunny had you crawling under her bed and pushing a suitcase and some boxes towards you to conceal you. “Who is it?” Sunny yelled.
“It’s the sexy RA from down the hall,” responded a muffled and sarcastic voice. “It’s room inspection time.”
“Coming!” Sunny huffed, and you heard her open the door.
“Sunny Lee?” The voice was less muffled now, and it sounded extremely familiar. Too familiar.

You didn’t want to see Baekhyun after everything that had transpired, but it seemed as if fate was on a mission to bring the two of you together once more.
It started with a phone call.
“What’s up?” you asked the caller. It was Seulgi, and it was a Friday night when college beach bonfires reached some of their peaks. Even you were attending one.

You knew that nothing was going to be the same when Baekhyun didn’t call or text you the morning after. There was no husky hey, baby and a crooning apology even when the clocks hit the late afternoon. Why you expected him to apologize was beyond you, but you somehow thought that maybe he’d be a decent person for once. Maybe. Just maybe.
But he was Baekhyun, and he was also the awful boy that shrugged and laughed and called you a slut and spit in your mouth. (You could only wish that last part was an exaggeration, but it was all too true.)
None of it mattered now, however—not when you sat in front of your bewildered best friend as she stared at you in concern. After Baekhyun’s demented revelation from the night before, you had no idea how to go about this situation or what to feel about it. What were you supposed to say? Supposed to do?
“What’s wrong?” she had asked five minutes ago, but you didn’t know how to respond so you just sat there and twiddled your thumbs.
Baekhyun slept with your best friend.
What the fuck were you supposed to do? Were you supposed to ask her what the hell was wrong with her? Were you supposed to cry? Were you not supposed to get angry since he wasn’t even technically your boyfriend? There wasn’t a clear thing to do, but there was never a plan for something as unforeseen as this. When the boy you so desperately pined for fucks your best friend, there was no due course of action; there was only hurt—miles and miles of clenching, agonizing hurt.

You gave Baekhyun a playful stare which he returned with a hearty laugh. He shrugged and winked like the awful boy he was, like he was in a competition with himself to see just bad he could get. Apparently, he could get pretty bad because you had only tried on a second dress and he was already acting insufferably.
“Why’d I bring him here again?” you asked yourself, but Baekhyun overheard.
“So I can tell you what’s easiest to take off for when I’m undressing you, baby.”
You wanted to tell Baekhyun to leave if he wasn’t going to behave, but you could only wheeze in your own laughter. Last week had happened, he had said awful things, but now you were back to square one; you had cursed yourself for being and idiot before promptly forgiving him—again.
Did you deserve better? Of course you did.
But did you want better? No, you wanted Baekhyun.
My Love | BBH One Shot
Baekhyun Prose -- Based on his single My Love.
Vancouver in the spring was a combination of rain and sunshine. It’s either a bike ride by the sea or a day spent scribbling prose at your favorite coffee shop. A sigh escaped your lips as you gathered the journal in front of you, another day wasted drawing circles and meaningless statement’s that you couldn’t seem to connect.
You figured the conflicting feelings inside of you might be the reason why you haven’t been able to put anything to words. You didn’t know if you’re happy or you’re hurt if you’re excited or just nervous. Vancouver’s ambiguous weather seems to fit your mood lately, and once again you didn’t know what to make of it.
Groups of people, each dressed up for the concert multiplied as you approached said venue. Light sticks, banners, and trinkets you assumed they would throw on stage confined securely inside paper bags. Some carried camera’s with unusually long lenses, some clutching their toddlers with them.
Your friends waved you over on one of the booths who were giving away free stickers. They too now sported light sticks and t-shirts, feeling left out, you took out a zippered sweater from their Elyxion concert before joining them yourself.
The stadium reverberated with the beat of their songs from previous years as fans lined up. Your seat was located on the right side of the stage, close enough for them to see you but still far enough for you to reach out to their space. You didn’t plan on reaching out anyways, you only wanted to look, to have a glimpse of the world you’ll never be a part off.
And as the stadium dimmed it’s lights, and the opening played on screen, the sound of your heart hammered and along that – six people rose on stage, but your eyes were only fixated on the man sporting blue hair.
‘I’ll watch over you from afar.. like how I did before we met. Know that I will always listen to you, so keep going Baekhyun. Keep walking forward like you are now’
Memories of tears cascading down both cheeks, of missed calls, and long messages, of petty arguments that resulted from pent up anguish on being away from each other. Hands that held on, eyes refusing to look away until morning, and hearts slowly breaking into a million pieces as they eventually had to turn away.

The sudden melody awoke you from the past, you remembered this song back when it was still in the process of being made. You remember repetitive keys being played in the middle of the night, his forehead scrunching as he struggles with a note, and your head resting against his broad shoulders.
Five tickets arrived in your mail a few weeks before the concert, the sender being their manager. A few days later, said manager reached out asking if you’re going. You couldn’t say no, because truthfully, you wanted to see him too. Even if his heart is no longer yours to keep, he still somehow has yours. You weren’t privy to him getting back together with his ex, you didn’t know if it was true or not – you didn’t care. You just selfishly wanted to see him, even if you knew it would break you over again.

A single stemmed pink peony was left on stage as the song finished – your favorite flower. A vibration from your bag was felt by your friend, as you tried to regain your composure. Your phone illuminating the dimmed arena as you opened the message – from their manager.
He’s back stage for a few minutes. I’ll wait by the doors if you want.
You stood up, excusing yourself just when Suho started his solo stage, knowing exactly where to go.

As the summer got hotter, so did Baekhyun.
First, he got a fake tattoo on his neck “just to try it out.” Of course, everyone including your own friends joked about him having commitment issues, but you never laughed at those. Every single time he craned his slender neck and exposed the temporary ink job, you thought about his commitment to you and your strange relationship and how it was only hanging by its skins. Nevertheless, it was attractive, and you liked it on him.
Secondly, he tempted the most suppressed parts of you like no other person had ever. Since when on earth, you wondered, did teasing to the point of utmost frustration become attractive? Since when was him grinding against you in crowded house parties and clubs considered pleasing? Since when did you love it when a man acted like he was the personification of temptation? The answer to that was the unguaranteed, unsecured promise of ever getting the main prize. The very idea of one day getting pinned to the hood of a beautiful red Mercedes and manhandled and fucked was everything.
“Flirting is a promise of sexual intercourse without a guarantee,” you once quoted a novel to Baekhyun in hopes for him to finally take off his clothes and give it to you and give it to you good.
Being himself, he merely laughed at you, sucked on the cross of his necklace, and spat it out before going on to utter another one of his smartass quips.
“The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” he replied immaculately. “By Milan Kundera.” With a lazy gait, he approached you and left you dumbfounded and even more frustrated when he kissed you on the nose. “Did I just get an econ major to read a book?” he teased, and your cheeks reddened, making him laugh even harder. “Sorry, baby,” he said with a shrug. “In a battle of quotes, I have the sharper sword.”
On a scale of one to Baekhyun, how annoying could he get? Strangely enough, it only made you want him more. And it wasn’t just his body; it was him. All of him. As much as you could get.
