My next two weeks are finals weeks so I don’t have but a few minutes to spare for this - but it’s worth it. Tumblr flagged multiple reblogs in my queue for “adult content” when all they were were fanart of Makoto and Haru not in any smexy pose. One had them in their swimming attire and looking at each other and holding their towels. The other had them sitting down, looking at each other, Haru as a merman and Makoto in swim trunks. Neither image contained nudity or even kissing. Just young men in swim wear looking at each other.

But the shock! The outrage! The indecency!

I will not delete my account or anything in it. I will merely let it sit inactive (and in time-out to think about what it’s done). I will also not be disappearing (anymore than I have already, at least) and I do plan to return to being more active in my writing and fandom in general once I’ve handled my higher priority matters.

It’s been real. It’s been an adventure. And I love you all. But sometimes we outgrow a social media platform. And that’s ok! Don’t be afraid or sad. It’s happened. It’s happened a lot, actually. (MySpace, Live/DeadJournal, etc.) This is just a step in our evolution and growth. There’s nothing to mourn, just a new change to our every day mundane to embrace. Change is good.

So in conclusion, feel free to find me on twitter, under the username silvernsapphire, and on AO3 as KireinaAme. I promise I will return to a more active and participatory state in the future.

See you there~

Since I don’t plan to draw anything new for my tumblr for a while, I guess it’s time to post the pics I started for the makoharu festival (and never finished in time)

learning how not to fish for compliments can really help how you interact with others. here’s some common phrases i’ve noticed:

  • “here’s my shitty art”
  • “lol i’m so ugly in this selfie”
  • “you’re so creative. i’m nowhere near as creative as you”
  • “your writing is amazing! i wish mine was that good”

what all of these have in common is that they all involve putting yourself down. when you do that, those around you feel obligated to compliment you, which can make them feel frustrated that they have to just to be polite. not only that, but by talking yourself down you feel worse about yourself. the latter two phrases also centre your problems, distracting the attention from the person you’re trying to compliment. that often makes them feel bad!

here’s how to fix those phrases:

  • “here’s my art”
  • “selfie time!”
  • “you’re so creative. how do you do it?”
  • “your writing is amazing! do you have any tips?”

by cutting out the negativity, you make it so nobody feels obligated to compliment you. you’ll usually get more compliments this way because people don’t feel uncomfortable! the latter two phrases now also centre the artist and their knowledge. not only do they make the artist feel good, they also might score you some good advice.

this strategy will also help to boost your confidence in the long run. if you stop prefacing every compliment with negativity, you’ll be able to internalise them better.

Sound advice. It’s also with mentioning that with fanfic in particular, readers don’t like it when you put down your story in the summary or tags. Saying things like “this is pretty terrible and nobody will probably read it but here you go” is doing exactly the same as the comments above, only directed at all of your potential readers instead of at one person.

If *you* don’t like what you wrote, why would I?

Please reblog, this is so important.

I needed this

Is this foreal?

Yes it’s a real service. I do volunteer work for a rape crisis support service in my city and texting is one of the features we provide as well. But just to boost its credibility, I tried it myself:

reblog to save lives!

You can also text “Steve” to 741741 if you’re a young person of color. The website for more info is stevefund.org

My understanding is that it’s more multicultural and some folks feel more comfy with that in mind!

get help guys, please. if you’re hurting, don’t let that hurt consume you. seek help.

I never knew this. It’s spectacular.

THIS is what I was looking for a few weeks ago when I was in crisis; reblog to save a life!

I read several dozen stories a year from miserable, lonely guys who insist that women won’t come near them despite the fact that they are just the nicest guys in the world. I’m asking what do you offer? Are you smart? Funny? Interesting? Talented? Ambitious? Creative? OK, now what do you do to demonstrate those attributes to the world? Don’t say that you’re a nice guy — that’s the bare minimum. “Well, I’m not sexist or racist or greedy or shallow or abusive! Not like those other douchebags!” I’m sorry, I know that this is hard to hear, but if all you can do is list a bunch of faults you don’t have, then back the fuck away. Don’t complain about how girls fall for jerks; they fall for those jerks because those jerks have other things they can offer. “But I’m a great listener!” Are you? Because you’re willing to sit quietly in exchange for the chance to be in the proximity of a pretty girl (and spend every second imagining how soft her skin must be)? Well guess what, there’s another guy in her life who also knows how to do that, and he can play the guitar. Saying that you’re a nice guy is like a restaurant whose only selling point is that the food doesn’t make you sick. You’re like a new movie whose title is This Movie Is in English, and its tagline is “The actors are clearly visible”.

This never gets old.
