Season Two: Midterm

END OF CHAPTER 1

Chapter 1 has finally come to an end!

The Kaminski Administration has had a good(ish) first 12 months. An attempted assassination, national education support for students, firing a state Governor and firing your Chief of Staff while being the most powerful woman in the western world! It’s been very hectic!

What can we expect for Chapter 2?

Chapter 2: Midterms

Midterm elections are here! The Federal party are forming an army against the Liberals to gain control over the House of Representatives and Senate! Numerous seats are up for grabs as the impoverished district of Edwardsville becomes a new constituency in the House. 

Tensions grow in the West Wing as former Vice-Chief of Staff Amanda Sanford has been approved as the new Chief of Staff while in the Public Engagment office Kala applies for another role in the White House leaving Helen in the dust and expected to pick up after her.

Midterms are here, tensions are high, emotions are low. What now in the White House?

Julliana Kaminski: Why.

Nathan Cartwright: I’m sorry.

Julliana Kaminski: I didn’t ask for an apology. I asked for an explanation.

Nathan Cartwright: I didn’t mean to. I didn’t know he was apart of the Queen’s council.

Julliana Kaminski: He has lost his job because of you. The now former Governor Oliver Thompson is unemployed because of your actions.

Nathan Cartwright: Oliver wanted to see him as well.

Julliana Kaminski: You made him lose his job but if I found out late, my job would be lost as well. So would the 50,000 people who work in the Federal Government. All because of you.

Nathan Cartwright: You would bring me into a government building if I asked.

Julliana Kaminski: No I would not. I would meet you somewhere away from a government building. Wait, if you asked?

Nathan Cartwright: Yes?

Julliana Kaminski: He asked you to come?

Nathan Cartwright: Yes.

Julliana Kaminski: Why did he ask to take him into.... We have a problem.

Nathan Cartwright: What is it?

Julliana Kaminski: We have a national security risk.

Nathan Cartwright: What can I do?

Julliana Kaminski: Nothing. Leave.

Julliana Kaminski: Tell me everything.

Nathan Cartwright: There isn’t much to tell.

Julliana Kaminski: Everything... Governor Thompson you start.

Oliver Thompson:  I got a call saying a friend of ours Felix Grundmann who works for the Askarian government is visiting Cascadia and had nowhere to take him since of the public opinion of the Askarians.

Julliana Kaminski: So you knew of the Askarian public opinion yet still brought him here. Where does this Felix Grundmann work in their government.

Theodore Cronin: They’ve gone silent.

Nathan Cartwright: He’s a member of the monarch’s private council.

Julliana Kaminski: What?!

Oliver Thompson: He came to us to celebrate his election.

Theodore Cronin: Where does he sit on this council?

Julliana Kaminski: I don’t wanna-

Nathan Cartwright: Lord President.

Theodore Cronin: God...

Oliver Thompson: Why is it such a big deal though?

Julliana Kaminski: This is incredibly important! You let the head of the monarch’s private council into the state with the biggest population and give them a tour of its State Capitol! If you didn’t know what the Lord President is they are basically the head of the monarch’s inner circle. They deal with everything that's important to them! Askaria is an absolute monarchy basically meaning Felix Grundmann is the head of everything the monarch does! The current monarch hates Cascadia and is suspicious they granted the attack on my husband and the Second Lady! So ask me why it’s such a big deal.

Nathan Cartwright: I’m sorry Julie.

Julliana Kaminski: I’m your president. Only friends call me Julie. Oliver you can leave. I expect a letter of resignation by tomorrow and a statement to the press.

Oliver Thompson: But... Yes. Madame President.

Julliana Kaminski: Now Nathan. Where were we.

Kala Mumbach: I wonder what’ll happen.

Helen French: No clue. She looked so annoyed when she got off the plane.

Kala Mumbach: I’m scared for Nathan. He’s a good man.

Helen French: He was. His deputy will be better.

Kala Mumbach: We haven’t even met her yet?

Helen French: I have. She’s nice.

Kala Mumbach: What about the Governor?

Helen French: I expect he will resign. Or fired. Meaning an emergency election.

Kala Mumbach: It’s nearly election season. Is your friend running?

Helen French: She wishes to get into Government someway or another but I’m guessing she’ll run for Congress.

Kala Mumbach: I heard Edwardsville is becoming a brand new district?

Helen French: It is. We need to push her to run for it. If not she can run for Mayor.

Kala Mumbach: Or Governor?!

Helen French: I recommend local office first before Governor.

Kala Mumbach: If she signs herself to the Liberal Party I can get the board to fund her campaign. 

Helen French: That sounds amazing!

Kala Mumbach: She needs to do one thing though.

Helen French: Which is?

Kala Mumbach: She needs to have a meeting with them. She has to meet the board of The Liberal Party...

Norman Kaminski: So things are going well with the Education For All?

Pamela Cronin: They are. I had a board member meeting a few days ago to get everyone up to date on our brand new plans for the coming months. 

Norman Kaminski: Its coming up to Director elections isn’t it?

Pamela Cronin: It is but the Chief Finance Officer is suggesting it becomes a part of the Department Of Education.

Norman Kaminski: Really? What for?

Pamela Cronin: He said “such an organization shouldn’t be independent and run by the Second Lady.”

Norman Kaminski: Mr O’Connor was the former President of Simsvard University. He knows education well. Bring it up with Julliana and she will meet with the Education Secretary.

Pamela Cronin: Also. Theodore.

Norman Kaminski: What about him?

Pamela Cronin: He’s acting strange.

Norman Kaminski: How strange?

Pamela Cronin: He hasn’t been home for days because of ‘work’ yet he does most of his work at home. While we arrived at the White House he kinda let his feelings out to me on how he loves me. I feel like something is wrong.

Norman Kaminski: Nothing is wrong Pam. You’ve got a problem of worrying. He loves you and no one else. Remember that.

Pamela Cronin: Your probably right.

Kala Mumbach: Like he just does it nearly every day! I’m so happy to get away.

Helen French: I mean try find another man!

Kala Mumbach: Probably. Forget about me, what about you?

Helen French: I’m not the one looking for a relationship at the moment.

Kala Mumbach: Come on, there needs to be a least one.

Helen French: I mean not anyone I personally know.

Kala Mumbach: Who then?!

Helen French: You know that Alexander Goth? Brother of Advisor Cassandra.

Kala Mumbach: Oh my god yes! I can pull strings to get you in the same room as him! I can see you two together! I ship it!

Helen French: God Kala. Be a bit quieter, the staff are chatty. I’ll be talk of the West Wing by next week!

Kala Mumbach: That Alexander Goth is so handsome. Helen Goth! I can see that. I’ll see what I can do.

Helen French: I don’t really think the President is very fond of him.

Kala Mumbach: True... I’ve got a meeting with Cassandra after Midtown so I’ll do what I can.

Helen French: God shut up!!

Julliana Kaminski: I appreciate everything you do in the West Wing with Nathan’s absence. 

Amanda Sanford: Its comes with the job Mrs President. I also expect he is in Midtown waiting for your arrival.

Julliana Kaminski: Good. I also expect he will put up a fight to defend himself as well...

Amanda Sanford: I spoke to Nathan not that long since he said he will be dealing with the Midtown problem and he’s willing to submit.

Julliana Kaminski: He knows his outcome doesn’t he?

Amanda Sanford: I’m pretty sure he does ma’am. I also see the paper in front of you.

Julliana Kaminski: I just can’t put myself to do it.

Amanda Sanford: As your deputy chief of staff I can’t really give you much help.

Julliana Kaminski: I sign the letter and the west wing changes forever. What do I do?

Amanda Sanford: He let you down and went behind your back to speak with the suspected enemy. This could be a national security threat. I recommend signing it.

Julliana Kaminski: And the Governor?

Amanda Sanford: Give him the same punishment, he let an Askarian citizen inside a government building. 

Julliana Kaminski: Your right. Thank you Amanda.

Amanda Sanford: I’m just doing my job.

Theodore Cronin: This could be a problem if we do this wrong you know?

Julliana Kaminski: I know. We need to take risks. Our administration is already in the mud with Nathan in Midtown. We need the opposite party on our side. It’ll be hard but we must do it. She is also the third person in line of the presidency if I die. 

Theodore Cronin: So someone from the opposite party becomes Vice-President if you die?

Julliana Kaminski: Correct. That’s why people are scared of my pregnancy.

Theodore Cronin: God. There she is...

Julliana Kaminski: Speaker Of The House Quinn Townsend with Party Chief Penelope Houston.

Theodore Cronin: They’re both wearing white is there some sort of silent protest?

Julliana Kaminski: The colour white in congress normally symbolizes silence. The speaker wears white to show their support for the party over politics. We’ve got a problem.

Quinn Townsend: Mrs President and Mr Vice-President! So glad your here!

Theodore Cronin: Here we go...

Quinn Townsend: Make sure to hand the document to the candidate Ralph.

Assistant: Will do Madame Speaker.

Julliana Kaminski: Mrs Townsend. Nice to see you.

Quinn Townsend: Its Miss Townsend now. I got a divorce.

Julliana Kaminski: Hope the separation was smooth.

Penelope Houston: So why are you here then?

Julliana Kaminski: Well my constitutional right is to announce the speaker of the house as the third person in line for the presidency.

Quinn Townsend: So when you leave office for the birth of your children I become acting Vice-President?

Theodore Cronin: You do yes. You become the first female acting Vice-President as well as the first Federal and Liberal executives.

Quinn Townsend: Incredible! Can’t wait to work with the Mr Vice-President.

Penelope Houston: I shall become the acting Speaker then?

Julliana Kaminski: I’m not sure but probably will.

PA System: May all representatives take their seats in the chamber! Five minutes remaining.

Quinn Townsend: It was nice talking to you two. As speaker and leader of the house of representatives I expect this Nathan scandal to be sorted out. Quickly. Let’s go.

Theodore Cronin: You really need to get out of hospital as soon as possible after the procedure. Penelope Houston is a far right radical and with her as Acting speaker she could be very dangerous.

Julliana Kaminski: I know Theodore. I know. We need to go to Midtown. Call Nathan, I want him there.

Assistant 1: Welcome Mr Vice-President and Second Lady Cronin. The Executive building is to the right of you and the west wing is to the left. I expect you are here for the so called “ Askarian relations scandal “.

Theodore Cronin: So is that what they are calling it?

Assistant 1: Yes sir. I have also just been told that the President is waiting for you in the East wing Mr Cronin I’ll call you when ready. And you've got a meeting Mrs Cronin with the white house security, am I wrong?

Pamela Cronin: Yes I do have a meeting with them.

Assistant 1: Alright. Someone will call you from the left Mrs Cronin.

*Assistant 1 leaves*

Pamela Cronin: You haven’t spoken to me for hours. Is everything alright?

Pamela Cronin: Please Theo. What have I done? You have been off with me the moment you took the oath of office on inauguration day. I know you tried to run for President but remember, you lost the vote while coming 4th in the Liberal Party leadership. If you are taking your anger out on me and the children then just realize that you became Vice-President. Julliana could’ve chosen anyone but no. She chose you over everyone else. She took a liking to you, no one else. You are the 2nd most powerful person in Cascadia, maybe even in the world! Stop putting yourself down and realize the amazing opportunity you were given. We should come together to get through a tough moment. In a few months you will be the acting president to cover for Julliana. Please, Theodore. I love you.

Theodore Cronin: I’m sorry. Its just been so overwhelming. I’m so thankful that Julliana won. There is no chance I could’ve done it, I can barely hold the office of Vice-President never mind acting president. The only important thing is that you are beside me, the moment I sit at my desk. I just haven’t spoken to you since I’m just so lost in my job that I have no chance to focus on the one thing in front of me pushing me through.

Pamela Cronin: I- I don’t know what to say.

Theodore Cronin: Nothing.

Assistant 2: Mrs Cronin, you can enter.

Cassandra Goth: Good Morning Julie!

Julliana Kaminski: Morning...

Cassandra Goth: You look a bit down in the dumps! Cheer up Mrs President! Wow I still can’t believe you’re president! Must be amazing being one of the most powerful women in the world!

Julliana Kaminski: It really is amazing...

Cassandra Goth: How long has it been now?! 10 years?

Julliana Kaminski: Pretty sure yea.

Cassandra Goth: So why have you called me here today Julie?

Julliana Kaminski: You may leave Miss French.

Helen French: Will do Mrs President.

Julliana Kaminski: May I ask why is your brother here?

Cassandra Goth: He’s basically my assistant.

Alexander Goth: I’m the co vice-president of Goth Industries actually while being the Chief Financial Officer of Goth real-estate. 

Cassandra Goth: I had no choice to bring him. He deals with a lot of my businesses.

Julliana Kaminski: Well the reason why I wanted you here is because I am in need of a new advisor to my team. As you know I’m pregnant and my team has to do a lot of the hard work my doctor said. So I am looking upon you to take an advisor role!

Alexander Goth: I wish I didn’t come now.

Cassandra Goth: So what does this role take up then? 

Julliana Kaminski: As advisor you will be overseeing numerous departments in the white house office and will be taking a front line role in my absence when the baby decides to come.

Cassandra Goth: I’d be honored! Do I have to work with Nathan Cartwright then?

Nathan Cartwright: Well I am the Chief Of Staff and I rank higher than you.
