Regarding the other’s uncertainty, Schezo gave a boisterous, dramatic laugh as he usually did. “Even if you, too, have been busy with the strange happenings taken place, I am certain your memory of the game will have still stuck with you and help you to try new exciting movements in the Puyo Battle, no? That is just nature of memory!” That…made sense, actually.
Schezo could indeed say some smart things when he felt like it. That said, he got his copy of the tome from his robe pockets, and summoned his own Puyo grid. “Let us fight with Puyo Puyo! I’m all yours!!” Schezo, watch your wording. Please.
Image
That did make sense, the dark mage was insightful and wise in his own way after all. Even if he was silly and bolsterous on most days, he did have centuries of history as a powerful Dark Mage under his belt after all, painful or no.
Image

Though he really needed to watch his wording. Even Hakuno wasn’t naive enough to not notice the innuendo there.

She pushed that aside and instead focused her concentration on the game of Puyo Puyo that began, trying her best to arrange the dropping Puyos in a way that would create chains. It was...tempting to match four as soon as possible, but she knew if she built them up she’d have larger payoff.

Now if only she wouldn’t build them up too much...

Though the words were echoing what he himself had pointed out, Schezo did not complain: rather, he nodded thankfully at the other understanding his point of perspective from the event, and in agreement to her words in general. She’d managed to understand it very well. The serious topic moved on, though, his eyes lighting up at the prospect of another Puyo match. Ah…it seemed Schezo garned honest enjoyment out of the game, due to the world he’d been in before here playing a nicer version than the ‘Dark World’ of it.
“I would adore that greatly! It would be exceedingly exciting to see how you’ve improved in your game, you see…with the event happening, I didn’t have time to expand this to teach all this realm, but…I can’t be blamed for having other things going on at the time.” No, you can’t, that’s fair, Schezo.

Hakuno couldn’t help but keep her smile as Schezo’s eyes lit up, it really was a good shift back to the Schezo she knew...though perhaps this more somber serious side to him was a side she knew very much as well. The point was, it was time for Puyo Puyo.

Though she had to give a more wry smile and nervous chuckle at his request to see how much she had improved; she hadn’t actually used the tome at all since that first day, believing it to be Schezo’s property. “Err...I can’t say for how much I’ve improved to be fair...”

He did a point on not being able to teach with all that’s been going on at least, plus his own personal life.

Regardless, she opened the tome and summoned the Puyo grid as before, preparing herself for battle. Even if she wasn’t practiced, at the very least she was acclimated to Septaneus more and would be less overwhelmed by the concept.

Folding his hands in a rare moment of quiet behavior: Schezo mused in a soft tone matching such seriousness that: “With how horrid so much of it was, it was difficult to see any positive in it that I could learn from at all - it stuck to me like a horrid taint, or curse, as well, making moving on difficult. Yet if I simply dwell more on it…it will only hold me back. Besides: one good thing did come of it.”
A pause, as that dramatic smile crept back onto his face slightly.
“I met nice people such as Arly, Keyo, and you, so for that…I suppose I should be thankful for my past leading me this direction.”
Image
It was OVERLY sappy, as expected from such a drama ham boy…but it was also very sincere.

She couldn’t help but smile at his sappy, dramatic declaration. Even if his past was long and painful, if it lead him to make such good friends, would it be worth taking back? She couldn’t answer that for sure, she knew at least that she wouldn’t take back her own bloodstained and painful past though.

image

“There is that to be thankful for, yes.” She nodded back at him, her hands still on his, or rather her tome. “If you see it as a taint, I guess what you need to do is not revel in it but...wash it off? Better yourself and move forward.” She felt she was being slightly redundant at this point, but it was a good point to stress she felt.

“While you are here and while I have this tome here, would you mind another battle of Puyo Puyo?” It was a sudden topic change, but it just shot into her mind, especially since they played that first day too.

Giving a small sigh of relief that his acquaintance did not hold any grudges or anger over the…childish way he had acted then, he sat quietly on the squishy couch that reminded him of Puyos in how squishy it was while he waited for her to come back out into the living area: apparently, judging by how she’d wandered off, she did have something to give?
He was right in guessing it was his tome, and he mused: “I do not mind if you keep that - I have more than one, you know. As for time travel - I recall that those in charge had their magic sealed off during that whole mess. How, then, would they have accomplished such a magical feat as time travel? No, I’m certain the blackout BEING magical in nature, like a curse, is what was to blame for it…and…I….I’ve been thinking.”
A pause, before admitting, softly: “I…really have been cursed all this time. In a way. Because I’ve been ‘living in the past’, dwelling on past memories…much like physically, in that event. If I truly want to move on and rid myself of the darkness….I can’t live in the past like that anymore, can I?”
Image
She gave him a inquisitive look and then looked down at the tome. Was it really OK for her to keep it? Well, it was a way she knew she could perform some form of magecraft. After all, her own Mystic Codes didn’t seem to work in this non-virtual space...

More importantly, he had a point about the time travel thing. If those in charge had their magic sealed, it didn’t seem possible that they would be able to perform any sort of time manipulation feat. He was probably right that the blackout itself caused him to revert back to the form of a child, but why? She had an idea, based on prior conversations she held with her friend...

It was the same idea that he himself admitted to. He had cursed himself and was living in his memories, letting himself be tied down by the darkness in his past. She simply nodded. “The past is the past, we must learn from it but we can’t let it hold us back. I won’t deny your past is full of darkness, a sad tale but...” She looked him in the eyes and smiles. “If you wish to move on from it, you must strive to improve yourself instead of fretting over yesterday. I think your realizing this is an important step.”

Hook, line, and sinker! An enthusiastic spirit was always something she liked to see!
“Alright! I remember this one taking me a while to get when I was younger, but I bet you’re a bright one!” She probably shouldn’t be so happy that someone actually wanted to solve it, but she was glad to know that people were as open to it here as they were in her world!
Sherl, however, just gave a sigh at her possibly-intentional pun.
Image
“Okay, say you have ten candles in a blackout. Suddenly, a gust of wind blows in and blows two of them out. You leave the room and come back later to find that another one’s gone out. To make sure that you have some light later, you shut the window. Now that the wind won’t put any more out, how many candles will you have left for then?”
This one had been burned into her mind for years, and she was more than glad to pass on the torch of its tricks!

A bright one.... The woman couldn’t tell in the darkness, but Hakuno was silently groaning at the pun. Maybe it wasn’t intentional.  Either way, she leaned in to listen to the puzzle as she told it.

Ten candles in a blackout. A gust of wind blows two out to make eight...Another goes out while out of the room. The window is closed to prevent any more for going out. Seven? No, that seems too simple...

Have some light later? Candles have left...for then? In the scenario, there is a blackout now, isn’t there so wouldn’t I need the light now? She needed more information.

Image

“Err...what time of day is it at the moment?” Maybe it wasn’t relevant, but any clue would be helpful.

A marvelous choice! I shall return with the colored horse, ” Kurowli applauds her decision with a sharp nod, before disappearing once again to grab the desired horse. Frankly, the effort could have easily been left up to his owls— whom had been tagging along on the treetops; one cheekily perching on a nearby bench as if to keep the girl company— but the man had promised to do the job himself.
Despite accidentally startling the shopkeeper and not having enough currency on his person to buy the stuffed animal, a secret revealed and a point in the right direction was surprisingly enough to convince them and acquire the item. Smoke erupts with his return as Kurowli ceremonially holds out the pink and white decorated horse for the other. Hopefully the little girl will enjoy it.
Image
Owe me? Hmhm… how quaint. Of course not, girl, being benevolent is my duty as a god, ” He casts his gaze elsewhere, seemingly ending the topic swiftly with disinterest. Yet, it takes but a sudden thought to cross his mind, reigniting his enthusiasm, “ —Though, there IS one thing I desire from you. I have given you what you needed, yet I do not believe we ever introduced ourselves. You must give me your name for I cannot call you ‘girl’ forever.

Hakuno had only noticed the owls after he disappeared, looking around to pass the moment where the man was gone. Where they...his familiars or something? Or did the marketplace just attract crows to it? In either case, they didn’t seem to be bothering anyone; one even seemed to keep her company.

Image

She takes the stuffed horse from the man when he returns. “That is the one, thank you again.” She looked back at him. A god? It seems she hasn’t been giving him his due respect. “Ah, I didn’t know you were a deity. I probably wouldn’t have been so snappish or demanding.” If only because one of her closest friends was a god and she didn’t want her to hear about Hakuno being potientially disrespectful. “I am Hakuno Kishinami.” With this, she gave the man a nod.

Waiting for his responce, she then left to give the plush horse to the little girl, hoping not to keep the man for too long. Thankfully, the girl seemed to enjoy the gift and her and her mother thanked Hakuno for her kindness. Everyone was happy, that felt good. She returned to where the man was, a warm smile on her face...

On a practical level, he has to wonder why they don’t just scan them all – make them accessible at the swipe of a hand and a tap of a panel. Or, if they weren’t so easily accessible… well, he could make get into them as if it was nothing, whatever the cost. Sure enough, that was the real reason 9S was agitated that this place prescribed to magic and ease in all but archives. For a place to be so fantastic, and yet so inaccessible in all its parts –
“They… return themselves? He straightens up a bit, noticeably more perky. Inaccessible things, in the end – things he didn’t quite understand – those were exactly what he wanted to touch. “They’re transported, something like that? Disassemble and reassemble in another place? Or do they float? Flap their wings like birds?”
Image
A smile plays at his lips. It’s ridiculous. It’s something that defies explanation. And that… was exactly why he wasn’t going to let this ‘magic’ stuff alone. “Look, where I’m from, we can’t do things that easy. It’s generally a huge pain.” He pauses, resting an elbow on the counter, peering up at her. “Lemme see.”

She nodded at the boy. “They don’t float or fly like birds, they-” what is terminology an android would know? “-teleport, I guess? They are removed from where they are when they are due and returned to their shelves. I wouldn’t know the exact mechanics behind it though.”

For all she knew, they could be disassembled and reassembled in an instant. She wasn’t filled in on exactly how the library's magic worked however and she suspected that it wouldn’t match with how she understood magecraft to work.

Image

“How do they do things where you come from then? You do have a form of teleportation where you come from I take it?” She presumed he was from at least an equivalent of her time, if not from further in the future still, right?

“Well, I don’t know if it will work here but...” She picked up one of the books on the shelf, something she had picked out herself for some light reading during breaks, and put it in the tray marked ‘returns’. Almost in an instant, the book disappeared from the tray and reappeared on the nearby bookshelf where Hakuno originally found it.

Looking away for a moment out of guilt, those eyes focused back on the girl as he explained himself: “Remember, for the longest time, I had naught but a stick to protect me - so of course, as a child, I would erect a wall of stubborn rudeness to try and push monsters that would wish me harm away. I had nothing else to protect myself with at that point, seeing as I had only just received the Dark Sword and was still learning magic…that fire spell I used then was the only not over-the-top one I could do because of it’s simplicity.”
Hm, he did have a point there. “Still, that does not mean it was right of me to do so, so…I truly am sorry.”
Image
A pause, at the other requesting him to come in. A nod, before he entered the apartment once more. He honestly didn’t mind her lending the tome as long as she had, because he knew she’d bring it back when she was ready, so if she wanted to lend it longer, it was ok??

“Its OK. I understand you completely. You didn’t do anything wrong.” She nodded back at his words and went to fetch the tome, going into her bedroom to retrieve it from the bedside table where she left it. Looking at her bed in the sunlight, it was still something she wasn’t used to. An actual bed. Actual sunlight. Huh.

Before she got too absorbed in thought, she grabbed the tome and returned to the living area where Schezo was waiting, taking a seat on the couch. “I have your tome back, if you want. You left it here when you visited the first day and I forgot about it when we ran into each other during the holidays.” She had something of a suspicion he wouldn’t mind having her keep it, but better safe than sorry!

Image

“Though that’s not the only reason I invited you in. I was curious as to what you said about time travel? I admit I am not much of a magus, but I do have a curiosity for its workings so...I thought perhaps we could compare notes?” Time travel, his being reduced to a child (memories and all) during the blackout...maybe it wasn’t a coincidence he jumped and stuck to that conclusion?

The kindness of this plain girl seems to know no bounds. A2 can’t quite place the emotion she’s feeling, but it makes her feel… warm. Of course, she doesn’t let it show. Expression calm and unapproachable, she walks through the door, swiftly nodding to her companion. Once inside, she looks around curiously as she waits for Hakuno.
Image
“That would be nice.” A small smirk dances across her lips. “But you’re right. Is there anywhere we can find basic information about the city? No… Maybe its History is a better start…” She trails off into a mumble, putting her chin into her hand as she gazes at the countless bookshelves.
Realizing she lost her train of thought, A2 turns back to her guide. “Do you have any idea where to start? You’re more familiar with everything here after all.”

Catching up to A2, faltering only to pull the door close behind her, she quickly began pondering A2′s request. It was true that Hakuno was more familiar with the Lavender Library than A2 so if anyone knew where to find out about this city, it was here.

A2 had a good idea with History, but not only were there Hakuno’s doubts they’d have city secrets so openly accessible, even if they did it probably wouldn’t make sense if they didn’t know the structure of the city and the society within it.

Image

“Perhaps we should aim for figuring out the ‘how and what’ of the city first. If I recall correctly, there should be a section covering the core topics on the city’s structure and magic. Septaneus Basics I think?” With this, she moved towards where she remembered the section in question. It was relatively close to the entrance, as they seemed to know they’d get curious offworlders.

Schezo’s eyes seemed to light up in some sort of cheery relief that he’d been so lucky to find the other first try - but knowing why he was here was a mood-dampener, and there was no smile on his face, but an apologetic expression. “Hakuno. After…the strangeness that the darkness draped across this entire realm took place, I felt - remembering everything that had happened during the time of being cursed by it - I should come here, and apologize. I…the darkness was so like that of the Dark World so long ago, it cursed me to return to the boy I was at that time.”
A pause, before explaining. “I acted…awfully rude to you, and I feel awful about it. I don’t blame you if you are still angry at what my younger sel- no, I - said, but…I truly am sorry.”
Ah, it was quite evident Schezo felt rather guilty about the even blunter things he’d said under the ‘curse’…

Hearing his story and his apology, she gave a sigh and then followed it up with a smile. “It’s no problem, really. While you were somehow even more stubborn than usual I’d say the rudest you got was implying I smell.” Which she sure hoped she didn’t. She washed herself up as soon as the lights came on just to be sure! “You did say some interesting things though....you had the impression that the only explanation for my knowing the future you was that I was a time traveler?”

She took a step back to give Schezo room for the doorway. “Please, come in. I’m sure we have things to discuss and at the very least I have something of yours.” Which she kept forgetting to return or bring up on the other times she had met him, but there was no excuse for not dealing with it now. Schezo was probably missing that tome by now.

His head hurt, and felt nagging - but it didn’t take long for Schezo to get over it, and also realize - he’d been cursed before, returned back to his past self, but probably confused his friends and those who met his younger self in the process. After sending a letter to those in charge, he felt a little less cross about everything - so now he should really go and apologize to those he’d met during that strange curse and explain things, right?

The first on the list, of course: was Hakuno. She’d gone out of her way to help, despite his younger self being…blunt and rather stubborn. Hopefully, she was in her apartment right now? A firm, loud knock was made on the door, the dark mage waiting to see if he’d be lucky enough to find her quickly.

Hakuno was glad that, above all else, the lights were on and things weren’t shifting around anymore. As she had missed the initial announcement, she only had limited clue what the heck had happened but at the very least it seems to have been resolved. The whole incident was a mess, on top of the darkness and catastrophe on a holiday she recalled that Schezo had been cursed into a younger form too...

She spent some time ruminating over what to do from here, wondering if she should check up on him and see if he was still cursed and if so, if he stayed in his apartment like she told him to. She...didn’t herself, having ventured off like the stubborn person she is and returned after another adventure in the dark.

She was taken out of her thoughts by a sudden loud knock at her door; something told her that this was Schezo himself. Even his knocks had to be loud and dramatic, didn’t they? Moving to the door, she steadily opened it and looked up to the face of the familiar man standing on the other side.

Avatar
“ A stuffed horse doll? ” There’s a quizzical look on his features after repeating her. Is that what young children liked these days? Strange but it’s possible to see why a small girl would appreciate such gift. He hums, ruminating over the idea for a little longer before shaking it from his thoughts.
More importantly, he is pleased that she had returned in search for his aid; pleased to serve to those in need. Why the god couldn’t help but give a small laugh.
image
You underestimate me, girl. There is no doubt that I would know— once I scour the markets, that is, ” and once more he assumes position, which wasn’t all necessary to sense the world around them. In fact, it was purely habit at this point with a penchant for dramatics. “ I will now relay the information and tell me which one appeals to you best. I will even retrieve it in turn…
A breath is taken, “ —I see three different horses who have their insides filled. One, colorfully dyed in the hues of flowers; another, large and of earthen brown; the two have gorged themselves with a cloud-like substance to the seams. The third and final one sits on its haunches, immobile for its hide is heavy with miniature beads… ” His gaze falls upon her now, expectant for an answer.

Hakuno watched as the man looked at her and gave a laugh, presumably at the fact that she actually came back to seek his aid. Did he not expect her to need his help so soon? It was perhaps a little silly of her...

As he assumed his position, she tried to observe some form or technique as to his scouring the markets looking for the stuffed horse but there was nothing she could notice. Maybe he really did just have a flair for dramatics.

All three of the horses he found did seem like good candidates, but Hakuno needed to think this through logically. If the third one is ‘immobile’, even if only in appearances, it may be too large for the girl to carry. The second sounded like it was especially stuffed, which would make for a very soft toy that the girl could enjoy perhaps. The one dyed in the hues of flowers honestly sounded it’d be cute, at least to Hakuno’s eye....

image

She gave a thoughtful nod. “Hmm, let’s go with the colorful one? I think it would be cute for the girl.”  She smiled at him. “So do I owe you anything once you’re done, for all you’ve done today? You’ve really been a great help.”

“Alright - I’ll keep a look out!” It didn’t take long at all for the mysterious door of his future self to reveal itself, and he moved towards it, mumbling: “Uhm….i’ll put the kitty in myself. Do you…want me to stay there a while??” He seemed uncertain as to what he should do after putting the kitty inside where it was safer, but given how dangerous it was outside, perhaps keeping Schezo inside was a safer option?

She gave a nod. “At least until the shifting calms down, but ideally until power comes back too. It is safer for you here, this is your older self’s home after all.” She didn’t know if he’d heed her words, but at the very least if he was safe and secure for the moment she’d be happy.

“I’m going back to my own apartment now. Take care of the kitty and don’t leave until you are sure its safe, alright?”  And with this, she shot him a smile and closed the door to the apartment with him and the kitty inside. Sounds of her footsteps as she walked to her own apartment could be heard, followed by the distant sound of a door opening, and then closing again. Both Schezo and Hakuno were home now.

❝ Today must definitely be Tenko’s lucky day ! “

Because ever since she’s arrived here ( despite it being quite recent as she had yet to explore the place herself ), she interacted more with males rather than females && for Tenko, it was not acceptable considering she never liked males from the start && it’s starting to leave a bad taste in her mouth. To be able to finally meet a new face, so when she saw the other, she couldn’t help herself from the little excited outburst– it was a good start being at this new city aside from reuniting with the friends she made before.

@moonstudentmagus ❤ for a starter !

Hakuno was surprised to find someone excited to see her and more so to see it was a cute girl she had never met before! Well, it couldn’t hurt to get more acquainted with her fellow residents, right? Besides, the other girl’s excitement was almost infectious....maybe today would turn out to be a lucky day for both girls even!

Surprisingly, despite carrying both a candle and a cat, Schezo managed to keep pace easily - in fact, it was evident that he had to keep slowing himself down to keep up with Hakuno, so sure were his steps. Yet to know he’d had to endure many frightened steps into unknown labyrinths to get this sure of step in darkened ways was a sombering thing that took happiness out of it.
Despite his steps being certain, he made sure to be slow, to consider the other’s words. They were…now on the fourth floor? “Uhm…we should take the kitty wherever she belongs, right…?” The child expressed evident bewilderment of going to a future him’s room, but the animal’s safety clearly came first.

He had a good point there, she was sure the kitten would be most comfortable in their own home...though the fact that they had come down to be with Schezo even in his child form seems to indicate that the kitty would want to be wherever he was really. But if it would make him feel better, then very well then. That is what they will do.

“Alright. Your room should be 4E. I don’t know which side it is on from the entrance we took, but keep an eye out, alright?” She said that, but even at her slowed pace it wouldn’t taken them too long to find it.

Indeed, before she knew it she found herself standing right in front of it. She waited to see if Schezo would find it too.

She…wasn’t a good mage, relying on items? That didn’t make sense, it didn’t make sense. Picking up the small kitty rather than trying to make sense of something that made his head hurt and risked him bursting into tears once more, he pat it gently. “It’s really friendly…I don’t want anything bad to happen to it, so we should help it to safety. It really likes being held, so I’ll carry it!”
That seemed to be true, given the kitten’s purring, but knowing Schezo, that was probably also a bit of an excuse to pat it and cuddle it more, seeing how much he loved animals. The cat carefully cradled in one arm, and the candle held steadily in the other, the boy nodded with confidence.
“I know how to travel in dark areas, I can make it with the kitty, I promise!!”

Nodding to Schezo and keeping up her smile, she made her way up the stairway. Her pace was slow, not wanting to drop her candle or outpace Schezo and his kitten. Their rooms were both on the 4th floor, so they had a bit of a climb to make in the darkness.

“Watch your step, I know you have your hands full and can’t hold onto the railing like I can.” She peeked back at him as she ascended, making sure he wasn’t going to lose his balance or anything. She had to admit, it was a little nerve wracking to step up a staircase in darkness, guided only by dim candlelight.

Stepping out of the doorway on the fourth story, she stood in the hallway and turned back to Schezo. “Here we are on the fourth floor. I...don’t know which of our rooms are closer from here, so I have to ask: Would you feel safer in the room your future self has settled in?”

Shaking his head, the boy shook like a leaf. “You don’t understand…dark magic’s bad, even the teacher’s back home said so. It taints whoever has it - so - I have it, so that means I’m tainted too. If I were to go home like this, a monster…I….mother would be…” The fear and anxiety was evident on his tear-streaked face. In honesty, the fact his past world had such a bad view of dark magic was to blame for the boy’s thinking of himself as cursed.
Made sense that the younger Schezo would be even harder to convince than the older - he was the one who’d carry such thoughts to his older years, after all. Though, the other admitting she had not changed yet made him pause, calming down enough to finally rub tears away, before retorting: “If you’re a mage, your other elements probably protect you a little…which is lucky. I’m still nervous I might curse you though.” That said, it seemed…they were indeed inside some building? Intact buildings were rare in the Dark World, so they were lucky to find it.
And the nice kitty. “Uhm…if we’re inside, shouldn’t we get the kitty to safety first?
Image
Even as a boy, Schezo cared much for animals…

Hakuno gave an understanding nod, as...well she did understand. Schezo had told her before how the place he grew up in drilled into him that not having any magic made you worthless, but having dark magic marked you as a tainted monster and....the fate of you and your family wasn’t very bright. It was understandable that he would be shaken up by this, especially as a child.

“I’m not a very good mage, all of my magic is performed through items and I don’t have any on my person at the moment.” The point she was trying to get at was she wasn’t ‘protected’ at all, rather his dark magic wasn’t going to ‘infect’ her in any way. She was still her after all the time spent together.

“Oh, of course!” She looked down at the kitten. Her suspicions seemed to be true, it was indeed Schezo’s shadowy cat. “I think the kitty will follow you, but if not we can carry them or put them in your cloak.”

Image

Walking towards what she now knew was the entrance to the stairway, she turned back to Schezo. “Our rooms are on the same floor, but it’s a few stories up from here. Can you and the kitty make it?”
