the idea of open borders really doesn’t seem radical at all to me. like, from having traveled in the eu and between scotland and england/northern ireland and the republic, i’ve seen that it can and does work. what seems extreme to me is letting people drown at sea, especially when it’s being done by the eu??

the eu having internal open borders but then having an extremely hard border around it is an act of racism. i don’t think i’m exaggerating by saying that, europeans are free to enter where african and asian refugees are forbidden

it’s easy to forget, so I’ll remind y’all: you can make fantasy versions of anything. yes even things you might not think about. like soil types. I am thinking of fantasy soil types right now

my half a sustainable ag degree just aggressively kicked me into overdrive about this so here’s my fantasy soil type: quickened soil. You got your classic clay/loam/silt pyramid and then there’s also quick and slow. quick soil’s got ghosts in it. there’s Magic there. it’s got a presence. you have to till the soil full of blood and bone of things that were magical when they were alive to make it quick, but unfarmed untouched earth in more magical regions ends up being naturally quick as well. magical crops need quick soil to grow, but it fucks with nonmagical crops like crazy. your plants go Weird and end up as semi-magical crops one way or another and not necessarily in a way you wanted. to make your soil slow again so you can just plant beans and shit you have to basically plant a bunch of stuff that absorbs magic, then rip all that out and burn it away from the field, aggressively plow the field, then do that again a few more times until it passes a soil test.

I don't know if they'll be good or not, BUT, Michigan State University is offering a free "course" online over Zoom, "Adulting 101," where they present about various adult-life topics; finances, banking, relationships, cover letter and resume writing, traveling, cooking, jam making (??), voting, that kind of stuff. Might be worth sitting in on and seeing what they have to say.

an appalachian environmental magazine i follow is calling for writing submissions from specifically indigenous people in southern appalachia and the broader southeast. the theme is indigineity, but the magazine covers ecology and climate change. there is no fee for submission. i am not indigenous, but i frequently see indigenous people sharing interesting perspectives regarding environmental science here on tumblr, so I thought i would share the link here.

writing submissions closed in december, but they are now taking art submissions as of yesteday. theme is the same. again, you must be indigenous to apply. yes it’s a paid opportunity.

if you're like 'well, I should leave that for people who need it!' don't. order them. stockpile them. the more the program is used, the more likely it is that it will remain a funded program and send the message that covid-19 is still a concern. use the program. there's no needs testing, no nothing, just put in your name and address. if nothing else, you can give a couple to a friend who has a larger family, since it's a per household thing and some people might need more or less, or a mutual aid group in your area, or something. the more people who do this, the more likely they are to keep reupping this program.

I will not mince words here. A genocide is occurring under a massive media, internet, and cellular blackout. Aid coordination will be nigh impossible. Journalists will not be able to communicate with news organizations and combat misinformation or document the atrocities happening in Gaza. We must ensure that every resource we can give finds its way into reputable organizations that can help, G-d willing, as soon as there is a pause in the IDF’s ground offensive. We must put political pressure on our own governments to stop their complicity in these war crimes.

Israel has just bombed a hospital where hundreds of wounded and refugees were taking solace. Journalists in Gaza have reported there was hardly a single body whole in the aftermath (If you can stomach it, there's a video of a father holding what remains of his child). At least 500 people killed by IOF soldiers, who planned this action, got into an airplane and dropped that bomb willingly. The deadliest attack in five wars, according to the Ministry of Health.

Israel has denied ownership of the attack and said it was a misfired Hamas rocket. Originally, they celebrated it on their social media, saying they had destroyed a Hamas target, treating the deaths like an unfortunate collateral. After international backlash, they posted videos to their social media claiming it was a Hamas rocket. The video, though, shows a second explosion 40 minutes after the airstrike, and they edited it our of their tweet in a pathetic attempt at covering up.

Israel has said multiple times that they were going to bomb hospitals. They told doctors to evacuate and leave their patients to death because they were going to bomb, namely: Al Shifa, Shuhada Al Aqsa and the Quwaiti Hospital. Al Shifa housed at least 10.000 refugees and wounded, and worked as a hub for the press because it was one of the only hospitals that still had working generators. Medical crew worked with sirens blaring to signal the hospitals were not empty. This was a purposeful massacre. These people died hungry, thirsty and in pain because of the Israeli government's cruelty.

CNN and other media outlets already tried to pin the blame on Hamas, parroting back the pathetic propaganda being sold by the IOF. Even in death, Palestinians can't be respected and are used to further their own oppression. These people's deaths are not going to be in vain. Within our lifetimes, Palestine will be free.

Take action. The Labour Party in the UK had an emergency meeting today after several councilors threatened to resign if they didn't condemn Israeli war crimes. Calling to show your complaints works.

Protests in support have already erupted in Beirut, Madrid and Rabat in response to the shelling of the hospital. Join your local protest and raise your voices. For people in the US, Israel has just asked for additional $10bi in aid on top of the annual $3.8bi already given to them. Palestinians are asking that you refuse this loudly, with their every breath.
