doll would have likely grown up to be a serial killer even without manny’s influence but it certainly didn’t help. i see him as being overly nurturing of every single horrible impulse when it came to ilene while simultaneously neglecting katherine. not because he genuinely cared for either over the other but because there were glimpses of himself already present in ilene and he , like so many other cult leaders , is a narcissist. every single part of dollface , from her name to her preferred manner of torturing her victims , was crafted by him. the doll she has as a child , the nickname he gave her that later becomes her new persona. he molded her in his image right from the start.
