To the victor go the spoils. ------------------------------ Independent Flexible Canon Sae Niijima & her SHADOW {mobile nav}
Avatar

{Actually I want to make a proper headcanon post about Sae in regards to art and imagination

Personally I don’t think Sae is an imaginative person at all. Her worldview seems very centered on the harsh reality of things, and the notion that everything must have an explanation. Her job relies on clear facts and hard evidence.

I would argue that out of all the Palaces, Sae’s was the most mundane. Her casino could viably exist in real life, save for some of its embellishments. The cognitive people were just regular people, and the game used the city outside of the casino being normal as a pivotal plot point. For those reasons I think that even at her worst and most distorted, she is still just a very realistic person.

This then goes into my idea that her realism means that she is also unimaginative. I don’t think she is the kind of person who can derive meaning from art, beyond what it is trying to convey in a literal sense. Show her a picture of a house whether it was done by a toddler or a professional, and she will find it adequate so long as she can discern it is a house.

Art is of course very subjective, but so long as it was recognizable I don’t think she would call something bad simply for lack of technical skill. Art she would find unpleasant would be anything she finds to be incomprehensible, since she is unable to dig for the deeper meaning a piece might be trying to convey. For instance I don’t think she would care for Yusuke’s piece about despair, as she would be too caught up in trying to figure out its focal point.

She gets too hung up in trying to figure out what something is rather than what something means.}

“Oh, you like my art Niijima-san!? I could draw you too, if you’d like!”

“Oddly enough, you aren’t the first to make such an offer. ... Though I suppose I am curious about how it would turn out.”

{We really out here struggling with no notifications. I say like I’ve been heavily present lately.

I have seen a consistent amount of new people cropping up here to follow me, so welcome! Let me know what is the preferred way to kick up some interaction- I can do more little open posts, I can do starters, asks, whatever. I’m shy but I don’t bite!!}

“Perhaps you’d have better luck taking out a loan.” Adlet mocked, lifting his hand and mimicking the Manager’s Voice. “Maybe you’d have better luck if you stopped riggin’ your machines!” Adlet resisted the urge to kick the machines.
“Isn’t this supposed to be a courthouse anyhow? What’s the deal with the casino?” He scowled, before sighing as he lowered his head in defeat.
“Loan my left ankle. I’m not spending anymore money here. I just have to find the exit…”

"Rigged? Don’t be absurd.” It was clear that the Shadow wouldn’t admit the truth with such little prodding. “You’re only losing because of your own shortcomings.” The cognitive patrons ignored the Manager’s smug lilt as she continued to single the man out, their focus placed solely on the vexing game machines.

“You certainly won’t win if you can’t focus on where you are.” Sae chided, brushing aside the subject of the Courthouse entirely.

Down on the Casino’s floor, one of the sharply dressed guards padded over to Adlet. “Are you finding everything alright, sir?” Its words were pleasant, but the champagne bottle it clutched by the neck muddled the intentions.

"BOSS, I BROKE IT."

The Manager whipped her head around, glaring back at the Reaper upon hearing that declaration. What is it that you’ve broken?” Annoyance had already laced itself into her tone even without any further detail. Most everything within the Casino could be replaced with the mere snap of her fingers, but having to do so because of someone else’s error was frustrating.

“I certainly hope you didn’t expect your paycheck to go untouched for this.”

NAME: Sae Niijima THEIR PROFESSION: Prosecutor working for the SIU.  WHERE THEY CAN BE FOUND: Most often the Tokyo court district, occasionally at Leblanc, rarely at home. She can sometimes be found when she has to do her shopping, usually when there’s a sale happening.  FAVOURITE FOOD TYPE: Mild or sweet.  FAVOURITE ALCOHOLIC DRINK: Champagne, but usually opts for cheap beer or sake depending on the social event. WHERE THEY WOULD GO ON A DATE: If she agrees to a date, you have a decent chance of getting her to deviate from the standard dating locales. Start her off with a typical dinner date then try taking her somewhere unconventional.  IDEAL GIFT:  Jewelry or practical items (planners, pens, other nice office supplies), she would also accept makeup and the occasional sweet.  WHEN WILL THEY DRINK ALCOHOL: She is used to social drinking and will do so either at home or at a bar/restaurant. If at all possible she refuses to get drunk at home to avoid imparting any bad influences upon her sister.  HOW MANY DATES UNTIL THEY GO TO BED: Very much depends. Doing so would mean dealing with the commitment issues that would arise.

{080-5834-XXXX} That’s hardly viable. It’s not as if I can afford to do anything that would jeopardize my job. Not to mention the fact that someone else will probably drink themselves sick regardless.

She truly found herself arriving full circles with her selfish desires.. By no means is this a way to uphold the law.’ It was a solemn thought that draws ‘anguish’ within the being settled on top of the chariot made of flames. As it taps his fingers onto it’s stone fixture, a rumble of strength could be heard within the stone in preparation for the inevitable clash to come. The stilled eyes of the statues of lion, bull and eagle upon it’s floating structure were now lit with purpose as it’s presence weighed thick onto the two opponents settled before it’s sight. If there was one thing that could be agreed upon as it heard the cocking of Sae’s weapon.
There truly is no more room for talk if this is where her resolve stands.
Meanwhile Skull within this moment couldn’t find himself more proud as not a word had to be said in his place. While a little loud to the point it caught him by utter surprise, the gunshot disrupted the flow and entirely wasted the tension forged by that holier than thou voice that made it’s speech. For a second he turns as the effectiveness of the bullet is amplified not only by her right at this palace’s ruler regaining control, but also with the strength of spirit settled behind, ultimately allowing it to pierce through it’s resistance! “That..” All he needed to take a look at the firm conviction now burning within her eyes.

”…Man. You really did come a damn long way.” An odd thing to say given the small amount of time they’ve spent together compared to so many. Yet all of this time spent upon such a thin rope of ice with the risk of such a grisly fate awaiting them had sped up this process. The mere fact she wasn’t turning away, willing to fight, to not lose up to whatever is building up inside of her says volumes to the brash thief. Even as the surroundings begin to grow a threatening blue as the concentrated chaos of a Megidola spell begins to make the room rumble, this relaxed feelings just wouldn’t kick from him!
A firm nod would solidify those thoughts as he quickly wraps an arm around her torso, time for them to get a good vantage! “Let’s haul ass then! This sermon shit has always been such a snore to me from the get go.”
Such petulance!’
As the attack launched with a warrior’s ferocity, it wasn’t remotely close to hitting it’s mark as sharp push of the legs sent the duo pitted against the angel off into the rotting ritzy air of the casino as a multitude of explosions erupt behind them.. Landing on top of the bulkier casino machines, it was a small drop down and Skull believes this would be an okay enough place to settle her for now.  “Same plan as always. The other assholes seemed to be off elsewhere, so let’s do what we do best!” He’d be the off the mere second he settles her down.
A roaring resolve ignites his heart, his movements as he proudly throw himself against the ‘jaws of death’ with a defiant grin and that proud, battered iron of a weapon that saw him through plenty of scuffles here so far. For the angel, this serves as an annoyance as it realized in order to reach it’s true target, the one before him had to either be stunned down or eliminated altogether. As it raises his hand in command, this time the hawk at it’s rear side would spread it’s stone wings, initiating a flurry of projectiles as a physical attack. Good thing Skull’s legs were feeling pretty damn good today.
Ducking, swaying or even swinging and disrupting some of the hits outright. He boldly fought through the attacks in order to slide into attack range, hardly intimidated by the heat as the time to attack was now!

”Let’s rock, Seiten Taisei!”
As the mask on his face disperses in a rush of flames, the Persona within erupts forth, an equally bold smile on it’s lips as the weight of the weapon is positioned well in his arms and aimed for the attack! Clearly this caught Cherub off guard as all it could do was brace in preparation, only able to endure the strong thwack of the staff as a Megaton Raid is smashed directly into the eagle portion of it’s ride, causing it to lurch forward and it’s energy to flare more ferociously as a result. However, it does open up an ample chance for some follow up attacks to be set in.
Not that he’d have to hold an adult’s hand to let her know when to go for that, now would he?

Sae’s eyes widened as she watched the Almighty attack rip through the air behind them. There was no time for relief, however; as soon as she was back on solid ground she leveled her gun towards the angel, aiming for the head. Another thunderous shot was fired, but the lion statue dipped in front of the shadow just in time to absorb the impact.

A few pieces of stone were dislodged from the force of the bullet, but the angel seemed unharmed overall, and much angrier for the attempt. She readied another shot, but backed down as soon as she saw Ryuji fighting his way into their adversary’s space. There was no way she could risk shooting him; she’d need to focus her efforts elsewhere until he needed to retreat from melee range.

The supply of items within her bag had been steadily dwindling, but it hadn’t been depleted just yet. Sae fished out a glimmering Rasetsu Ofuda and quickly cracked it within her palm before lobbing it towards Ryuji with as much force as she could muster.

image

“Sakamoto-kun!” She called out after him. The shimmering item offered the promise that a burst of power would be coming his way shortly. As if on cue his Persona was summoned forth to deliver a staggering blow to their opponent, as well as an opportunity she wouldn’t waste.

She raised her weapon once more and fired off a hail of bullets. The eagle let out a cry as the bullets punched neat holes through the thinner stone of its wings. Despite everything, her weapon wasn’t having as big of an impact as she would have liked. “Damn it.” She cursed, tearing her gaze away from the angel in search of some other way to be useful here.

The only other weapon at her disposal was the stun gun, but it was far too risky for her to get that close to the seraphic shadow. There had to be something. A flash of shiny crimson caught her eye, which closer inspection revealed to be the outfit of one of the Casino’s guards. The feminine shadow was hunkered behind a topped slot machine and clutching an empty tray to its chest. Sae’s brows furrowed and she wondered if she’d be able to pull the same trick twice.

“Hey! What are you doing!?” She yelled, authority permeating her words. “Quit cowering and help!”

“Huh!?” The shadow jumped at the sudden attention, glancing rapidly between the prosecutor and her opponent. “... What should I do?” It muttered to itself, wisps of black smoke beginning to rise from it. After a moment of deliberation, it suddenly erupted into its true form. “At your service, Madame!”

image

“Take care, young man!” Warned the clockwork shadow as it beat its wings and summoned forth an imposing gust of wind. The Garudyne spell shifted trajectories at the last second, dodging around Ryuji with impossible deftness in order to slice into their pious attacker. Norn let out a haughty chuckle at its own well-placed attack.

Sae found it hard to believe that one of the guards had listened to her so easily; it was clear that she wasn’t the same as the Manager. For now, she wouldn’t argue. The odds had tipped in their favor, though honestly, she had no intentions of losing now. Not after everything they’d been through to reach this point. “You haven’t got a chance in hell now!”

“Unhand me this instant! I won’t stand for thi-hi-HISCHH!”

The Manager slumped within the imposing shadow’s gentle, yet firm grasp. To his credit he was being incredibly patient with her, despite the fact that she was having to quite literally be dragged away from her work.

In the real world, Sae was agonizing over the inopportune flaring of her allergies, doing everything in her power to avoid succumbing to the perils of sickness. Despite her ability to work through the distraction, her annoyance with the current state of affairs was having a profound effect on the cognition of her Palace.

“I’ve got work to do!” The Shadow crowed, heels digging weakly into the plush carpet as the Reaper guided her through the Casino, towards the Manager’s floor. Her next verbal protest was drowned out by a sputtering cough, followed by a drawn out sniffle. It was no use. She was sick as a dog and couldn’t think of anything else. “Urghhhh...”Even her other guards seemed under the weather, shoulders slumped as they pattered around equally sluggish patrons. The Casino’s neon lights had dimmed considerably, and the usual blare of music was no more than a soft din. At some point through her delirium she’d made it to the plush couch within her office. Golden eyes blinked up blearily at the one-eyed Reaper, and she waved a hand authoritatively (at least, it was in her mind) at him.

"No one is to disturb me... until I’ve slept this off.”

🖐 "Never hurts to get more energetic about us pulling off a big one. Put 'er here!"

There was a resounding smack as their palms collided together in a show of celebration. Sae hadn’t even thought about the action, instead letting herself get swept up in Ryuji’s infectious excitement. A moment later she realized what she’d done, and crossed her arms with a faint smirk.

“You may be right. That was--” The wording eluded her, but she was sure he knew the feeling. Accomplishing anything in this world felt like an arduous task, but actually overcoming the challenge left an immense feeling of satisfaction. In a way it almost reminded her of the start of her career, when she would close out cases knowing she’d truly done the right thing.

... Speaking of her career, she couldn’t help but think of all the times she’d reinforced her steely reputation by slamming a hand into the stands in the courtroom. Maybe she had overdone the energetic part just a tad, judging from Ryuji’s expression.
