hey y’all! it’s been awhile since i made an updated post so this is actually a re-intro. i have a good amount of new followers soooo let's do this!

about me

my name is lei (pronounced “lay”). i use they/them pronouns. i’m twenty-five and currently looking for work in publishing after graduating with a bachelor’s in creative writing and a minor in music. beginning to consider myself a multi-dimensional artist, and it feels good. i love to read, write (duh), garden, talk about music, collage and annoy my cat, misty.

about my writing

i write new adult fiction and literary fiction in short stories and novels.

sub-genres: romance, black scifi, fanfiction, magical realism, psych thriller (very new but im hype about it!)

all of my stories will have queer characters of color, especially black queer characters.

current wips [+ brief descriptions]

an unopened letter to the grim reaper. | @purrfectwriting let me borrow their oc for this one.

trishe horton refuses to accept her parents' decision to sell her grandmother's baton rouge home six years after her sudden death. between working part-time as a cemetery administrative assistant and barely winning against senioritis, trishe's vivid night terrors have become the least dull part of her life. it's only when she bumps into an old high school crush, lina khan, off the pages of their many penpal letters and face-to-face for the very first time, that she finds hope that revival is possible. what she doesn't realize is that sometimes, she just doesn't dictate what survives, and what comes to a close.

skin that sheds (working title) | diahna livingstone becomes another case of the youth gone out into world.

WIP INTRO POST (soon come)

my intentions for this blog are:

  • to keep track of my writing
  • to post my writing more frequently!
  • to find rp partners!!!!!!!
  • to connect with other writers/find writeblrs to follow & show some love to
  • to get into beta reading

my socials

my ask box and messages are always open if anyone wants to trade facts about our oc babies.

oh and also if anyone wants to be added to any tag lists, lmk!

that’s it for now! thanks for reading.

i saw a video the other day detailing why we see so much about gaza🇵🇸 but not sudan🇸🇩

it comes down to these 3 key differences

  1. while gaza is much bloodier, gaza has journalists reporting daily. as a journalist you will be targeted viciously but it's a delayed risk because the enemy isn't on ground. your enemies are cowards who plot and kill you from afar.
  2. in sudan it's impossible to report anything because the enemy is walking down your street (if not in your house) like rabid dogs. you will be shot on sight. it's an immediate risk. there is no time to capture or comment on anything. whatever information you put out will be your first and last.
  3. in sudan, the updates come from the warring factions filming themselves, not from civilians. and you can imagine the bias and inaccuracy of their egotistical daily vlogs and official statements.

which is why it's more imperative than ever to follow Sudanese creators and journalists who do report on the little information that does come out.

disclaimer: palestinian press also deal with immediate risks when confronted with IDF on-ground.

hello, i'm ry (he/they). i've been a lurker on writeblr for long enough now and thought it was a good time to finally introduce myself.

  • i love writing (obviously), art history, photography, music, and people as a whole
  • i like reading/writing poetry as well as fantasy, sci-fi, apocalyptic, and horror/thriller/mystery fiction
  • i'd like to utilize this blog to talk about my work and meet other writers and talk about their works :)
  • tag/ask game friendly!!
  • main is @jamfruits

what to expect;

horror, thriller, fantasy, and historical fiction. queer storylines. focus on people's relationships with each other. exploration of society and its relationship with nature & the arts.

common tropes + themes;

found family. rural settings. weird shit happening in small towns. the loveliness of peoplehood. annoyances to lovers. nature that is horribly wrong. monsters, ghouls, and other spooky happenings. emotionally constipated characters. religion or lack thereof. small town corruption.

wips under the cut, just ask to be tagged :)

forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware

to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it you’re literally gonna be using that almost every day

a queer story doesn’t suddenly stop being a queer story just because it has no romance in it

So, I’m contemplating if I want to even keep this writing blog going. I was heavy into it at the beginning of this year. A lot has changed. I don’t want to throw everything away, but I also feel super disconnected from this particular blog. May just make another one. Start fresh.

All my oc babies are so amazing. I learn something from them everyday. Like they’re really just parts of my inner child.

I’m rereading one of my fave books from when I was a kid. I used to stare at the cover for long periods of time, marveling at it. It inspired me to write my first chapter book (it was a series and I trashed it when I was like 13 during an episode 😔 I was in the middle of writing the second book in the series too) and seeing all the correlations btw that book and my characters and the themes I include in my stories now has me cheesing.

I see why I’m so queer 🧍🏾‍♂️

Are you currently published or publishing a novel in 2023? Are you a writeblr or active writer on tumblr?

Hey everyone! I want to dedicate two months in 2023 to reviewing the published works of indie and self-published authors of tumblr. The current state of the publishing industry frustrates me as both a consumer and future author, but I see the imaginative works of so many fellow writers through this app and hope that we can collectively shine a spotlight on the talent showcased here. My reviews will be posted across social media platforms and shared on all major book review sites (like Goodreads, Amazon, B&N, Indigo).

I do not want free ARCs or copies of your work. I personally believe it’s important for us to increase the book sales of smaller, debut authors so they can find a larger audience. I will pay for all of my copies, as I have the means to do so.

I do want you to please reblog this post and share the title, link, genre, and description of the book you have published or will be publishing in 2023.

Feel free to use or adjust the below sample template, or respond with your own.

Please reblog and boost!

  • Book title: Youth, Sunken
  • Genre: horror, action/adventure, sea adventure (sort of!)
  • Word count: 172 pages
  • Summary:  As she nears the end of her career as a lead diver, Abby Marsh is determined to make this one count. She and her team have been called out to make a final plunge to La Fosse Dionne, a fountain in Tonnerre, France, with a bottom that has yet to be discovered. The funding for the job comes in the form of Dr. Mark Golus, a strange man with too much money to spend and an odd obsession with the fountain. From the start, there's something strange about the job. Too little information given, too high of a grant being offered, and a strange distaste towards the dive crew from all of the locals. But Abby is content to ignore the warning bells if it means getting her name on the front page one last time. She's less content to ignore them once the dive itself starts, and they realize that there's something else in the fountain with them. Between dead bodies that should have long since decayed, ravenous creatures that shouldn't exist, and glints of gold floating on the bottom of the cavern floor... Abby and her crew are in for the dive of a life time. It's one that they might not survive.
