Risking being an asshole with this post, but I don't care. Recently I've been regularly browsing the House of the Dragon tag as well as the actors' tags because we're getting so many new promo pics and such.

I am appalled at the number of posts I see in those tags insulting the actors for the character they play, or mocking their appearance, their intelligence...

It's okay to disagree with someone, it's okay to hate a character, or to dislike an actor for whatever reason, but resorting to derogatory comments about their intelligence or physical appearance is never okay.

This behavior is toxic. Want to name call or talk shit? Keep it off the public tags, thank you very much. People just here to have a positive time in fandom don't need to see your shit.

An example below the cut. I was just looking in the Ewan Mitchell tag for the recent magazine interview he did, and stumbled on this in two seconds flat.

The ASOIAF/GOT fandom has always been terribly infamous for treating the actors horribly while also displaying the incapability of separating character from actor/actress.

I’ll never understand how you can actively belittle the people bringing your alleged favorite character to life. The audacity to uplift a fictional character while degrading their actor. Y’all are gross and embarrassing.

I absolutely love the weird phenomena the human brain is capable of (cognitive dissonance and pareidolia are two of my favorites). Confirmation bias isn't positive or negative, it just is. All humans do it to varying degrees with various beliefs. It happens to me, it happens to everyone reading this. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, I just think we need to be aware that it happens.

The Availability Heuristic (sometimes called availability bias) involves people relying on information readily available in their memories when decision-making. Essentially, it is like a mental shortcut that focuses on easily recalled details and stereotypes, rather than analyzing the facts at hand!

All in all, it is absolutely amazing what our brains are capable of.

I realize not everyone has malicious intent when they engage in fandom-damaging behaviors.

However, if the offender deletes the post that I called out--that is their choice--I am not obligated to delete my reblog of it.

I treat all call-outs the same. I don't care how popular your account is or that you were polite after I confronted you.

If I was WRONG and you did NOT do what I accused you of, then yes I will retract my post, with a sincere apology.

I support users who demonstrate they will do better.

I do not support covering up someone's tracks, no matter how polite they ask, or what they've promised about their intentions.

I did not message in an attempt to cover my tracks. If that is what it appeared like, then I’d gladly make a post regarding my other previous post, so others will understand what I did and that I immediately corrected it.

While I did post credit in the tags, it was not sufficient. I will 100% admit that. As soon as I was “called out,” I deleted the post. However, as a result of the reblog, I have received the following anon messages:

That is why I asked for the reblog to be deleted. Not because I was attempting to backtrack or cover my tracks — not in the slightest. I do not believe that I should be told to “kill myself” because of this.

There was absolutely no ill intentions behind my previous post. None whatsoever.

I respect OP’s decision to keep the reblog up. That is their choice, as it is their reblog. Just please:

I deleted the post. I did not post the rendering with the intention of claiming it as mine. I did post credit but it was in the tags; therefore, others would not have seen it. It has been cleared up. It does not warrant sending me messages telling me to kill myself. Please stop.
