Interview Recruitment

Hi everyone!

As some of you may know, I’m a communication professor who primarily conducts research regarding social media and especially Tumblr. I’m currently working on a new project regarding Tumblr since the 2018 “porn ban,” user perceptions, ideas regarding community and interaction on Tumblr, and thinking about Tumblr’s “end of life” (think: all those memes about how we’re not supposed to let Twitter/Tik Tok know that we’re still here).

I’m currently looking for users who would consent to be interviewed regarding how their use of Tumblr and their perceptions of the platform have changed over time. If you are over the age of 18, use Tumblr, and are interested in participating, please let me know. Interviews are conducted in English via text, either in Tumblr’s direct messaging feature over on my research blog, or on Discord. You would be required to agree to an informed consent document for my College’s institutional review board procedures.

You can contact me here on Tumblr messenger if you would like more information, or at ineillho@cord.edu. Asking for more information in no way obligates you to participate in my research.

If you’d rather be interviewed on Tumblr messenger, please send the message to @imperfectresearchprotocol

If you already have my discord username, you can just message me there. If I’ve interviewed you in the past for a project, you are allowed to participate again.

Interviews can be done asynchronously, which means I can send you the question, you can take the time you need to respond, then I’ll send you the next question. So don’t worry about setting aside an hour (though we can do that too!) I can be as flexible as you need me to be.

I have a lot of pet peeves but I think the biggest one is when people say things like “oh it’s such a small town, only 35,000 people” like bitch my town has 200 people, you need to pick a new adjective

According to Wikipedia, a small town is 1,000-20,000 people. So although you are correct in stating that 35,000 people is not a small town (it is a large town), you are incorrect in thinking that you live in a town. You live in a village. You are a villager.

Here are the hierarchical classifications from Wikipedia

  • Ecumenopolis - a theoretical construction in which the entire area of Earth that is taken up by human settlements, or at least, that those are linked so that to create urban areas so big that they can shape an urban continuum through thousands of kilometers which cannot be considered as a megalopolis. As of the year 2009, the United Nations estimated that for the first time more than 50% of the world’s populations lived in cities, so if these were linked, the total population of this area would be about 3,400,000,000 people as of 2010.
  • Megalopolis - a group of conurbations, consisting of more than ten million people each.
  • Conurbation - a group of large cities and their suburbs, consisting of three to ten million people.
  • Metropolis – a large city and its suburbs consisting of multiple cities and towns. The population is usually one to three million.
  • Large city – a city with a large population and many services. The population is <1 million people but over 300,000 people.
  • City – a city would have abundant services, but not as many as a large city. The population of a city is between 100,000 and 300,000 people.[citation needed]
  • Large town – a large town has a population of 20,000 to 100,000.
  • Town – a town has a population of 1,000 to 20,000.
  • Village – a village is a human settlement or community that is larger than a hamlet but smaller than a town. #both of the major places I’ve lived call themselves metros#but these definitions make Chicagoland a conurbation#and Fargo a city#the thing is the FM metro is like#the last sign of civilization until you reach the coast
