So can we talk about how when loid looks at yor

All he sees is her? There is no house around her no background details to distract its just her

And how when she is talking to him

All they see together is each other. They exist in a void where all their attention is on one another.

Maybe Endo didn't want to draw the apartment from this hight but I think it's another way of showing us how these two feel about each other without being explicit. Hell yor even has a small halo outline around her head when loid sees her and it's making a shine sound effect.

I really love Endo's style and how he is handling loid and yor so far

this chapter has fucked me up so bad what do you mean Twilight calls returning to operation strix as him "FINALLY GOING HOME" and no longer sees it as another mission.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN LOID FELT SO RELIEVED SEEING YOR WELCOME HIM HOME THAT HIS BODY RECOGNIZED HER AS SAFETY AND FINALLY RELAXES AND COLLAPSES TO THE FLOOR HE IS FULLY IN LOVE WITH HER AND THEIR LITTLE FAMILY

Anya saying her parents get so noisy when they try to (unsuccessfully) flirt like it’s all normal suggests that Yor and Twilight (unsuccessfully) doing kissy kiss us just part of daily life now

(You know Anya would not miss an opportunity to watch her personal Berlint in Love at home and go ‘haha you guys are trying to flirt’. But she isn’t even going to get out of bed for this stuff anymore)

*MANGA SPOILERS AHEAD*

Handler's memory of a happier past life is ... oof. The juxtaposition between past and present just makes it all the more impactful.

A few detail I liked, apart from the very obvious:

  • the table with one chair in the present vs the dinner table with 4 chairs in the past
  • the closed blinds and window on only one side in the present vs all the windows and bright light streaming into the room in the past
  • the wilted plant next to the TV in the present vs the very much alive pot of flowers on the dinner table in the past
  • the bottles of wine strewn everywhere in the present vs the teapot next to the stove in the past... and we all know what teapots and teacups mean in this series!
  • that one little teddy bear in a box overflowing with what must be other mementos...

And of course, the present is missing the two people who had mattered so much to her. There's something extremely sad in how Sylvia's very messy life now all fits into one studio apartment. The bedroom is the dining room is the living room etc. There's nothing wrong with that, obviously, but her living arrangement now contrasts with her life in the past where home seems brighter, more joyful, and extends beyond this one memory.

More importantly, unlike for Twilight who seems to have now forgotten his mother's face - we never see what she looks like in his memories - Sylvia remembers. How her partner was dressed, how he bends over for their daughter. How her own little girl looks like, how she smiles, how she laughs. Handler's loss is more recent. But also... no parent should have to bury their child. It hits a bit different.

Memories haunt this world.

this is a really small and unimportant detail but i think it’s worth noting how, at the start, loid would leave his toddler daughter locked in an apartment all by herself while he attended his spy business but now he brings her with him to meetings with his boss simply because she wanted to play in the park.

progress. small… but it’s there!

my heart hurts for sylvia :(

but also im happy we’re getting to learn more about her and her tragic past.

but also also this just solidifies the fact that sylvia would never try to separate loid from his found family. i’ve seen a lot of people theorize that maybe silvia has bad intentions or is actually a bad person, etc. but i genuinely don’t think so. she cares about twilight. and, because she cares about him, she would never want him to feel the pain she felt when losing her family. if twilight wanted to retire from being a spy in order to be a stay-at-home dad and just live the rest of his life in domestic bliss, i don’t think she would have any objections.

she knows what it’s like to have loved and lost. she wouldn’t want the same fate for him.

*MANGA SPOILERS(?) AHEAD*

This tiny little panel from the resort island chapter is awesome because you just know it’s Yor standing off-panel who’s pushing Anya on the swings and Twilight is low-key panicking, worried his daughter might become the first Ostanian to land on the moon. As he probably should.
