Holy shit. The Israeli whistleblower story CNN just broke is insane. I cannot believe what I’m reading

Rare firsthand accounts by Israeli whistleblowers cast light on the horrific conditions in the Sde Teiman torture camp in Naqab Desert. Palestinians are stripped down, blindfolded, forced in diapers, and forbidden from speaking. They are subjected to beatings and mental degradation regularly. So much depravity that has gone unseen. Doctors performing procedures outside of their expertise, amputations due to zip-typing of abductees’ wrists, having large dogs unleashed on them at night. Being fed food through straws. I can’t believe it. I am truly in shock. And this is just one whistleblower accounting of this. Who knows what else is happening beyond our knowledge

Worth mentioning that multiple Palestinians have recounted these stories before, as direct victims detailing their experiences. What's unique about these accounts from CNN Israeli whistle-blower is that they're from an Israeli, therefore people are more likely to take this seriously.

Okay, so when I made this post about the PCRF, I noticed there were a lot of people in the notes who found it helpful that I had walked them through the process of donating.

And now that things are changing and some aid groups are pulling out of gaza due to this incident, it's being strongly reccomended that donations go to the fundraisers of those in Gaza wishing to leave.

So I thought I would walk people through donating on GoFundMe. It's very simple and takes less than five minutes (even less than that if you already have an account).

As you probably know GoFundMe's minimum donation is $5.00.

GoFundMe also gives the option to tip their platform. It is not mandatory and you can set this amount to $0. That's what I did, as I couldn't find any information on what they actually do with the tips.

GoFundMe asks for your zip code, email, and card information to process a donation. They do not ask for your address. There are no additional processing fees and no taxes.

If you have $5 to spare, click this link or this link that lead to VERIFIED fundraising campaigns of those in Gaza who are looking to leave. These pages are called Funds for Gaza and Operation Olive Branch respectively. I also made a post here with a few evacuation campaigns from Funds for Gaza.

Urgent Appeal for HelpGazaChildren: Help refugees flee to Khan Younis!

Because of the looming invasion and brutal bombing throughout the most densely populated area in Gaza, Rafah, many refugees are looking to evacuate to Khan Younis!

The bombing is random and even the areas not included in the evacuation notices are bombarded. Many refugees are asking Hussam for funds to help them evacuate to Khan Younis to help keep their families safe.

The above is a screenshot of a facebook post from someone in Rafah. A tent can be as much as $700 and the transportation costs anywhere between $250-$400 per family. This cost is primarily for gas alone!!

Please donate so that people may be able to evacuate while also being able to afford basic necessities.

Even if you're unable to donate, please share this post and the fundraiser even outside of tumblr and on other platforms! This is incredibly urgent!!

On loanwords.

First panel references Japanese loaning of Chinese characters early on. The next 3 are from ~1920s, Second is Chinese intellectual loaning of Japanese words for western technology/political and social concepts after attending university in Japan like so many of them did back then, often through borrowing Japanese created character combinations and bringing them back to China to pronounce as you'd expect in Chinese, leading to even commonly used words like the word for phone and the word for society being borrowed from Japanese. Third and fourth are Japanese loanwords in Dongbei dialect (incl Dalian specific ones), that are more commonly transliterations of Japanese words born from direct and relatively longer term colonization, words picked up by lower class and farmers living alongside Japanese settlers and soldiers.

It's interesting to look at different loanwords. You can see the movements of power and people clearly through the contrasts
