It was undeniably endearing to see this woman so enthused about the festivities. For some nobles, they considered extravagant balls to be tiresome.
But Delita, ever the extrovert, relished in every second of them. He liked knowing that the woman was of a like mind. It made speaking to her all the more enjoyable. She wasn’t jaded or worse – irritatingly pushy – like some of the other women in the upperclassmen tended to be.
“Ah,” he commented as she answered his question, pleased with the possibilities of it. Delita wouldn’t lie – he had something of a one-track mind when speaking to women. He never considered it a detriment, as it hadn’t led him into ( too much ) trouble yet.
His content expression lifted into a friendly grin, shrugging one shoulder innocently before he spoke, “The beautiful ones, yes. Which is why it’s no surprise that I had to approach you.”
Finishing off his drink, Delita placed it on a nearby table, then offering that hand to the girl. “Dance with me? I promise I’m accomplished enough not to step on your toes,” he joked, eager to spend more time with her.

So they were both unaccompanied. Ah, this would be the part in any given story that the lovers decided they were destined to be together. Considering that was the only experience Garnet had with suitors and the like, it was only natural for her face to grow hot. Was this the start of such a tale? Surely, he wouldn’t have tossed such charming words at her if he knew who she was.

Heart hammering in her chest, she held onto the glass as if it were a safety blanket, the contents barely reaching halfway. She smiled, exhaling loudly in response to his flirt. “Thank you, kind sir.”

Head lifting slightly, she stared at him for a moment before setting her glass aside. Taking his hand, she stepped towards him, stomach twisted into a double knot. “I would love to dance. I must warn you, however, I’ve been taught well.”

The music flourished and it was only now she began to truly notice it. A waltz. It was one of the easiest dances she had learned and grew quite skilled at, yet it was now she felt it difficult to distinguish between left and right foot. Was it the effect of champagne or her companion?

Free hand placed itself onto his upper arm and she gave him a slight nod, indicating she was ready for his lead.

“And I think you talk too much!” Words were slightly slurred. This was the furthest into intoxicated territory that Garnet has stumbled into. It didn’t help that he had goaded her to begin with when she complained about the taste. “I can handle any you throw at me! Come at me, you four-armed scumbag!”

xkuja:
|| ||         With a flourishing gesture, the balcony doors were thrown ajar.     It was close to the end of summer.  The nights came sooner, the sun set in brilliant shades of violet each evening, and the curtain had risen at last upon his opening act of subjugation.     He swept onto the balcony, long, laced sleeves billowing like ominous wings.  The present gathering of doves cooed their (startled) pleasantries.
Alexandria’s vista stretched endlessly before him, all the softer in the dimming light of evening. There was something decadent about the air tonight, the coalescing evening, the mood which had painted a wicked smile to his lips.     Truly, he owed at least some of that decadence to the canary of a girl cautiously trailing behind him.         Garnet was an exquisite thing, fitting of her namesake. She was something untarnished by the wars and conflicting customs between the nobility, and Kuja found himself rather charmed by her guileless innocence. Her soft, dark eyes hadn’t known what to make of him at first, he noted, and she rarely gave him more than a cordial nod in passing. He put that down to sweet shyness.
He’d seen her feeding breadcrumbs to these doves on occasion. Heard her singing to them.
It was clear from her gentleness that she lacked the heavy handed resolve possessed of her mother. He could not help but wonder what Brahne thought of that. She made a fine princess, yes, but she wouldn’t yet be a queen– not with her bare minimum understanding of the bureaucracy required for running a kingdom.     Still, for the time being, she made a most delightful novelty.
Image
Reaching the balustrade (much to the fluttering displeasure of one particular dove who had roosted there) , his body stilled in motion as the summer breeze whispered praise through locks of flowing silver and sleek feathers. Without so much as a glance back at the pretty thing who followed, he spoke,     “Princess, it is a most pleasant evening out, you’ll find. Won’t you come join your friends and I?“

Garnet nearly leaped out of her heels. How did he know she was here? She had been as careful as one could in a massive dress. In fact, she was quite sure she hadn’t been making any noise. Yet, it seemed her care had been for naught.

Swallowing hard, she left her hiding place and stepped into the symbolic spotlight. It would’ve looked awful had she abandoned her post with no word. No, her manners were exquisite and it wouldn’t do for the princess to flat out ignore this visitor. Despite how odd his presence was, in general.

“I’m surprised you noticed my presence.” Garnet flat out noted, stopping beside him. Hands held gracefully together, dark eyes refused to glance at the strangely beautiful man. Instead, she paid attention to the doves that cooed and fluttered closer to her. “I don’t believe we’ve been properly introduced. I have seen you wandering about, but mother hasn’t told me your name.”

Image

The birds had begun acting rather excited, expecting bread crumbs and seeds. Unfortunately, she hadn’t been prepared to visit them at this time.

Entire body rigid and stiff, she couldn’t help but notice the over powering aura the man exuded. Fingers clenched together, nervously playing with themselves.

WaaaAAAAAAHHH!!!! It’s been so long ! I’m sorry guys! Life and stuff gets in the way and blargh! I’m gonna be getting into my drafts today, but I am feeling rather meme-y. Think I’ll reblog some of those Ask Box interactions.

It would also be nice to have smaller drafts to do, oh my. I only have like.... paragraphs and novels to respond to and it gets a little overwhelming.

Ever since the King’s passing, the Queen had been acting odd. Particularly once a strange man had arrived at the castle. In fact, on that day, everything began to change. At first, Garnet chose not to say anything and only watched, thinking whatever it was would initially run its course. However, the longer the oddities remained the more they became. Tiny details wove their way through cracks in the walls and it felt as if the princess, alone, could see it.

She was determined to get to the bottom of it all.

image

Creeping along the walls, back pressed to cold stone, she tilted slightly - enough to chance a peek at the corridor beyond. There he was, the strange, tall man who occasionally paraded around the palace.

Mother never spoke of him to her. She didn’t even have a name to go off of. He seemed otherworldly, as though his very essence was plucked from the stars and left to wander the earthly realm. Or, more like he was a puzzle piece from a different puzzle altogether.

Who was he?

For the record, I hate kids.

Hate’em.

What an odd thing to suddenly exclaim. Unsure how to properly respond, Dagger merely stared at the four armed man.

This really had nothing to do with her. The longer the silence, the stronger awkward air became. If he hated children, that was his decision. Turning, she left swiftly.

@illuminame liked jack’s least favorite starter call ever;;
It had been seven years since Alleyway Jack had graced the streets of Alexandria. Seven long years wherein his name was all but forgotten.
So the last place you’d expect him to be in his grand return is Alexandria Castle.
There he was, having made his way through the Gargan Roo tunnels in a dangerous escapade. He came upon the secret underground entrance into Alexandria Castle and, not knowing it was just that, ventured in.
Normally he would have better wits about him. A map of the underground Roo tunnels remained forever burned into the back of his mind. But in his current state, he barely had the strength to use his wits.
It was a wonder he even got this far with the injuries he’d sustained. Several deep gouges and stab wounds told the story of a foe that didn’t want him to get away. Moreso did the perforation in his thigh, which bled through the tight bandages he’d dressed. He did so well to walk for so many miles without succumbing to this injury, but now he crumbled against the dungeon wall in a sigh of resignation. He knew he wasn’t being followed anymore.
Now with new-found curiosity, the venerated rogue turned his head this way and that, in hopes of finding some kind of signs to tell him what ruin he might have stumbled across. Lifting his back from the wall and looking beyond his shoulder gave him an awkward view of what looked to be an old, weathered version of the Alexandrian royal family crest.
Image
Wha…? Since when was Alexandria… Behind the Vis, his eyes narrowed in a puzzled squint, and he struggled to stand once more.
Something clicked— and then something automated struck him in the back, like vicious clockwork.
A string of profanities rose from the depths of Alexandria’s secret dungeons.

The timing was miraculous.

Garnet had been discussing changes needing to be made within the castle and was summing up her reasoning on sealing the secret dungeon next to the throne when a string of profanities, loudly, filtered through the stone. The doorway was open and the knights each looked at each other, then to their soon-to-be-Queen. Lips thinned, the ravenette nervously gave the opening an anxious look. Had someone stolen their way into such a passage? It was entirely possible, considering Alexandria and Treno were connected via Gargant Roo.

Image

“Could one of you see to it?” Garnet managed to keep her nerves in check. The person in question may not be anyone dangerous, but it was better to be wary after everything that had occurred. “Bring whoever it is up to the surface.”

“At once, princess!” Two female knights saluted and hurried down below.

It was easy to spot the intruder, yet his appearance caused quite the alarm. Seeing as he was entirely injured, the mystery of how he came to be there only grew stronger.

“Sir, do you need assistance?” One blonde knight offered her hand while the other stood nearby, equally as concerned.

It was impossible for Delita not to have a wandering eye while at Court. The women were plentiful and stunning, a much appreciated distraction from the mundane life of a knight. It wasn’t that he disliked or resented his job; it was one of honor. Delita was grateful to uphold it.
But it could be so dull when the highlight of his day was his patrol along the outskirts of Alexandria Castle.
Then again, perhaps it was a blessing that as of yet, the kingdom hadn’t been in uproar or under attack. No news is good news, as the phrase goes.
News of the Masquerade Ball broke up the monotony of castle life. Everyone was abuzz on the nights leading up to the event, and when it eventually came, Alexandria was flooded with visitors from far and wide who wished to attend.
The ball was in full swing when Delita arrived. He donned an elaborate ( and costly, he would admit ) outfit and a mask that obscured half of his face. With or without his appearance to aid him, Delita knew he would end the night with a woman on his arm. He always did.
Scanning the room, Delita made small talk with a few fellow knights, offering smiles to each lady he passed. His interactions were fleeting until he came across one woman in particular – her features gorgeous even with a good deal of her face hidden behind the mask. Delita’s already forward nature was only fueled more as he subtly looked her over. The women at Court were beautiful, but this one in particular put them to shame.
Delita snatched up two glasses of champagne and made his way over to her, using the drink as an ice breaker. With any luck, he’d be able to segue into a dance with her – if she was willing to humor him.
“Champagne?” Delita offered, making his way to the woman’s side. “These events can be taxing, what with the extravagance. This may just be the most crowded event Alexandria Castle hosts, save for coronations. A drink to take the edge off certainly helps,” he said, taking a small sip from his own glass.
There wasn’t much to be seen of her face even from this closer vantage point. The mystery of it motivated Delita.
“Are you here with anyone this evening?” the young knight queried, hoping that she wasn’t already spoken for.

It was quite thrilling wandering about with no one to recognize her. Mother was, as usual, easy to pick out considering her robust nature and size. The Queen was vibrant as ever and, for that particular moment, it felt as though her father had never left them to begin with. It put a smile on Garnet’s face to see Alexandria castle full of life and laughter.

Donned in white, with mask covering her pretty face aside from her lips, she wandered about, watching the nobles act not like themselves in the guise of anonymous.

She hadn’t gone very far before a guest approached her directly. Surprised, she turned to view the equally disguised gentleman and bowed her head in greeting. “Thank you.”

Champagne was something she had had before, though in small quantities. The bubbly taste was enjoyed in small sips. Excitement swelled within as more and more she realized no one knew who she was. From this gentleman’s stature alone, she assumed he was of nobility. Particularly someone she hadn’t personally met just yet outside of costume.

“Yes, it’s a welcome sight.” The excitement was too much to ignore. She had to go out of her way to conceal her identity. “No, I’ve come unaccompanied.” Though it was the truth, it still felt like a lie considering she lived here. “And you, sir? Do you often strike conversation with strangers?” A musical laugh filtered past pink lips.

She was honestly not expecting this. Hand twitched in the man’s hand as nervousness set in. What does she say? Does a mere “thank you” cut it? Free hand touched her chest, as if that small action calms the rapid beating of her heart.

No matter what he tried, he couldn't get her off of his mind. The way the sun made her glow radiantly, that her eyes seemed even more brilliant than the stars. Was she even real? At times, he was afraid that a touch would cause her to dissipate like a dream. He wanted to be close to her. Mindlessly, a gloved hand reached out to brush her hair. A few moments passed and he quickly retracted his hand, rubbing it behind his head. " Oh, you... had a leaf in your hair. I got it out though."

The sun was so warm. It was easy to become lost in its light. Raven hair absorbed the generous heat easily, chasing away whatever chill that came to creep. Lost in the moment, a small disturbance drew her attention back. Zidane’s arm retracted and, as naive as she was, took his word for it. “Oh!” She reached back, smoothing out the spot he had touched. “Did I? Thank you. I hadn’t noticed.”
