so, to summarize Winter Village this year

  1. winter village started with a filter that made it unseeable
  2. glitches including but not limited to: 1a. Various objects stuck to hands 2a. Arabians could not wear arabian exclusive gear 3a. Random soundclips of chainsaws playing
  3. the event for this year being collecting 18,000 winter magic snowflakes, which for the first two weeks, could only be collected one by one
  4. SSE breaking a years long tradition of giving star coins on christmas
  5. some people saying if they bought one-time star rider on sale they aren't getting star coin allowance anymore??

feel free to add to what a wonderful christmas this has been :)!

Istg that Winter Village missing magic stunt they pulled is very cheap. It might work with Mica's Cloud Kingdom but not with a highly anticipated event like this. And it lowkey hurts my eyes more than the actual colors

also the fact that as much of a pain as the cloud kingdom is, it's completely doable In one day. the way shits going we won't even have time to enjoy the winter village at all lmao

i think the main thing to remember about pandoria when writing is that it's supposed to kind of be indescribable. outside our scope of understanding. in the novels, anne mentions that there is no such thing as direction there, and she had to unlearn the concept of being as a whole. later, once she's back on jorvik, she has to do the same thing all over again. lisa finds her outside, just staring up at the sky, whispering "blue" to herself over and over again.

by that logic, it can technically be different things to different people. if there are no rules - nothing to live or function by - then a soul rider of the sun circle might comprehend it differently than, say, evergray. or elizabeth. for example, this the way i portray lisa to talk about it in one of my fics:

“stickiness. like when you have a nightmare and can’t make yourself move. like your body is weightless, but it doesn’t belong to you. and there’s this constant confusion. you don’t know who you are, or what you’re doing, or why you’re there. it makes it hard to want to get out.”

but this is the way linda thinks of it:

pandoria is wrong and innately difficult to step into, like forcing herself to suck in a lungful of water.

and anne:

it’s too easy, in the scary way that swallowing something toxic is. it’s so natural that she always has to remind herself that it will destroy her if she lets it, and concorde is her only grounding point, silver coat warm with the exertion of the ride.

the point is, the whole experience of pandoria varies from person to person. there are no laws, no sense, no structure. write it how you want! make your character hallucinate weird things! make them be perfectly unaffected! make it eldritch and horrifying! like most other things, it's just a matter of perspective.

one of these days star stable is going to release an update like "hey starfam! so, we know the main story has taken a bit longer than expected to complete - so we've updated the early game! new players will notice you kill garnok at level 8. if you are past level 8 you will not get these quests. no further questions"

I recently overworked my hand on offline commissions and in turn, revived some old-ish nerve damage in my fingertips. Resting time, it is.

Anywho, while I try to let my hand heal, have some of the better JR concepts I was able to turn out before the commission stuff popped up.

What they are:

1) A very vertically-inclined Valedale Village that makes use of the winding mountain path and an idea that the waterfall is basically the fifth statue that’s missing from Guardian’s Dale. A water/life-giving statue that lights up… a little differently than the ones in GD.

2) Either a lonely or hopeful scene, depending on how you look at it. Originally intended to be set in Pandoria, but being relatively small for an environment study, it might be better used as a YCH or something than a Reimagining. I guess we’ll see.

3) Dinosaur Valley, with the dinosaur almost completely submerged in the ice. A finished version would have snow dusted over most of the lake, because I take the “hidden” part of the location title very seriously…

4 and 5) Messy ideas of Pandoria that I’m not quite happy with yet. There are way too many ways to interpret that place, it’s almost maddening.

  • 4 has signs of civilization like houses inside of giant mushrooms (MUSHROOM KINGDOM, LADDIE) and a broken bridge in the distance that I clearly stole from Golden Hills Valley.
  • 5 has more vines and overgrowth, stacked ‘shrooms, and the occasional Garnok tentacle, because it can.

I love it!

This is so cool!
